第一节
Dear Chris,
I’m Li Hua, president of the School Student Union. Next Friday will witness a
Campus Charity Concert with the aim of raising funds for those in need. Knowing
that you are a talented musician, I’m writing to invite you to get involved in it.
We are open to a wide range of performances, from an old-fashioned folk song to
a modern popular song. Given your cultural background and musical talent, mixing
Western and Eastern melodies should create a unique and memorable experience. If
you choose to work with other artists, we will be glad to help with this.
I’d like to hear what you think. Just let me know by the end of this week. Looking
forward to your reply and hopefully seeing you on stage!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
“Hello? Is anybody in?” It was Mrs. Wilson, my next-door neighbor. I yelled at
the top of my voice to tell her that I was trapped inside. Hearing my cry for help, she
comforted me and told me to stay calm. Then she promised to ask more neighbors for
help at once. It was only a few minutes, but it felt like centuries. Finally, several kind
neighbors rushed over with shovels, brooms and brushes. Despite the biting cold, they
worked together to clear the snow beside my door bit by bit.
After twenty minutes of hard work, the door was finally opened. I stepped out
with tears of gratitude rolling down my cheeks. Their faces were red with cold, but
gentle smiles were on their lips. Mrs. Wilson handed me a cup of steaming tea,
warming my hand and heart instantly. Some neighbors also offered to clean my yard
and share some food with me. On that freezing snowy day in New York, I truly felt
the warmth of the neighborhood. The heavy snow could freeze the whole city, but it
could never freeze the kindness between people, reminding me that love and care are
always around us.

借阅书籍
W: Excuse me, do you have The Cat in the Hat?
M: Let me check… Yes, we have two copies left. Your student card, please.
W: Here you go. How long can I keep it?
M: Two weeks.
Text 2
休假
W: Where is Wayne today? I don’t see him at work. Is he sick?
M: He is on vacation. The work has stressed him out these days. He mentioned going to a beach
with his family.
Text 3
偶遇校友
W: Your uniform looks exactly the same as mine. Are you also a student at Lincoln High School?
M: Yep! You ride Line 2 every day, too?
W: Yeah, it’s faster than the school bus. Plus, the school gate is really close to the station entrance,
so it’s very convenient.
Text 4
学习语言
W: I learned Russian before. The grammar was challenging, but it was manageable. Now I’m
learning Chinese. The characters are hard to remember.
M: I’m learning French. The pronunciation is hard. Those silent letters trip me up.
Text 5
慈善音乐会
W: On the 30th of this month, a charity concert will be held at the City Theater.
M: I know. The concert is aimed at helping those affected by a wildfire.
W: Yes. It’s meaningful. And over 20 top artists will be performing.
Text 6
比赛输赢
W: ⑥I can’t believe our basketball team missed that last shot in the final. We were so close to
victory!
M: My sister’s volleyball team lost every game last year. They watched their plays, fixed their
passes, and now they seldom lose. Losing tells us where the problem lies.
W: ⑦Yeah… like when I lost the math contest. I solved the problems too quickly and made
mistakes. So I practiced taking my time to check each step. Now I’m better.
M: Right! Failure is the mother of success.
Text 7
寄宿家庭
W: ⑧My host family in Mexico was kind! Uncle Carlos and Aunt Maria treated me like their own
daughter.
M: What did they do for you?
W: ⑧On the first day, Aunt Maria prepared homemade sandwiches and fresh mango juice for me.
⑧Uncle Carlos showed me around the neighborhood and taught me some practical Spanish
phrases.
M: That must have helped a lot!
W: For sure. On the weekend, they took me to a local festival. ⑨We danced and their daughter
Ava bought me a handmade scarf.
Text 8
国际拥抱日
W: ⑩Today is January 20th. Do you know what special day it will be tomorrow?
M: No, what is it?
W: ⑩Tomorrow is National Hugging Day. Scientific research shows hugs reduce stress and boost
happiness.
M: I think so. Yesterday, my little sister was upset about a bad grade, so I hugged her for a full
minute—she instantly smiled!
W:
Remember when I hugged you after you weren’t hired for that job last week?
⑪
M:
Yeah.
⑪
That hug saved my day.
W: ⑫My dad is a doctor. He says hugs contribute to lowering blood pressure, too.

摩天轮
M: Have you ever ridden a giant Ferris wheel? I just read about some amazing ones around the
world.
W:
I once rode the London Eye. It’s 135 meters high, right?
⑬
M: Exactly!
It was originally built as a temporary
⑬
structure to celebrate the millennium in
2000, but people loved it so much that they kept it.
W: Cool! I heard Singapore has a giant Ferris wheel, too.
M:
The Singapore Flyer! It’s 165 meters high.
It has 28 air-conditioned cars and each
⑭⑯
⑯

holds 28 people.
Plus, it works well in bad weather, because it’s designed to stay stable in
⑭

strong winds.
W: Wow! Tell me more about some other giant Ferris wheels!
M:
Las Vegas has the High Roller—167.6 meters high, the tallest in the Western Hemisphere.
⑮

Each cabin has a bar.
It takes about 30 minutes to go around.
⑮
W: Impressive. What’s currently the world’s tallest Ferris wheel?
M:
That must be Ain Dubai. It is 250 meters high.
It has 48 cars with air conditioning and

Wi-Fi.

澳大利亚居家办公
M: Workers in the Australian state of Victoria could soon get the right to work from home,
under new plans announced by Jacinta Allan, the head of the state. “We’re doing that
⑰⑱

because we know what the evidence tells us: Workers are more productive; it saves time and
money for families,” she said.
Treasurer Jaclyn Symes said these changes could help improve work participation and
⑱

productivity, and close the gender pay gap. “My mom had to leave the workforce when she
got married,” Allan said. She said workers, especially women, should have the right to
achieve a balance between work and life.
It’s believed that this law could save the average worker in Victoria about $70 and three hours
a week, and also reduce traffic on roads.
The law would be the first of its kind in Australia,
⑲

although more than a third of all Australians already work from home.
Melbourne Mayor Nick Reece said the law isn’t fair to those who are unable to work from
⑳

home. “If you’re a teacher, a police officer or a nurse, you have to turn up to do your job,” he
said.
