When you’re having a hard time with something, it’s natural to turn to others for help.
Getting help sounds simple, but it’s not always easy to do. Sometimes certain beliefs or ways
of thinking can make it hard to ask for help. Here are some kinds of attitudes that can stand in
the way and ideas on how to get past them.
Some people believe that needing help is a sign of weakness. Actually, it’s a sign of
strength, not weakness. You know what you need and you shouldn’t be afraid to reach out for
it. Once a boy told me he wanted to ask his coach how to improve his basketball skills, but he
was afraid that his coach might think he shouldn’t be on the team. In fact, when he asked his
coach for help, his coach thought he was practicing hard.
Some other people think they don’t deserve(应该得到) help or support. Everyone needs
help now and then. Accepting help can strengthen friendships and relationships. Everyone
feels good when they can support a friend. For example, if you want to find out how Katy
solves problems with her parents, you should ask Katy if she has time to talk and tell her how
important her viewpoint is, instead of worrying that Katy is too busy to help you. When you
ask for help, choose someone who listens and cares, not someone who judges or criticizes
you. If you get refused, it's not because of you, but the other person. So tell yourself: If Katy
says no, she might not be ready to talk about her own experiences.
Another wrong attitude is waiting for someone else to make the first move. It’s not
always easy for other people to see when you need help. Maybe you’re putting on a cheerful
face to hide the problem. Don’t wait for someone to read your mind. You have to ask.
Because it can be hard to reach out for help, don't hesitate(犹豫) to offer support to
another person if you think he or she needs it. Giving and receiving help are great life skills to
learn. They help us improve our abilities to understand other people.
44.In Paragraph 2, the boy was afraid to ask his coach for help because ________.
A.his coach criticized him before
B.his coach was too busy to help him
C.he wasn’t practicing as hard as other players
D.he thought it would show he was a weak player
45.What should you do if you need help?
A.Be supportive to other people first.
B.Be active to find a caring person to talk to.
C.Try to make your friends notice what you need.D.Put on a happy face to avoid worrying other people.
46.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A.Asking for Help: Everyone’s Natural Ability
B.Asking for Help: Getting Past Improper Attitudes
C.Giving and Receiving Help: Great Skills to Learn
D.Giving and Receiving Help: Strengthening Relationships
C
A lot of people play sports, but very few people become sports professionals (专家). If
sports aren’t going to be your future, then why should you play them? Why should you train
every day? Why should you work hard and feel sore (酸痛的) the next day? Wouldn’t it be
better to forget sports and only pay attention to your lessons? In fact, there are a lot of reasons
to play sports.
First of all, sports are a great way to exercise. Exercising keeps you healthy and strong.
It also helps you stay in a good condition. When you exercise, your body makes endorphins
(安多芬) which give you more energy and make you feel happier.
Also, sports teach young people how to communicate and work as a team. They teach
young people to respect (尊重) their coaches, teammates and players from the other team.
Many reports say that sports help young people stay out of trouble. If a young person plays
sports, he or she may have fewer problems. This is because sports teach people about rules.
They also teach people that if they work hard, they might succeed.
Another good way of sports is that they make people leave their houses. These days, a
lot of people spend too much time watching television and playing video games. When you
play sports, you go outside and exercise in the sun. You take in fresh air. All of these things
are important.
Maybe you’re not going to become a sports professional, but that doesn’t matter, sports
will help you become a better and happier person.
47.According to the text, which of the following is true about sports?
A.When endorphins are made in our body, we will get angry easily.
B.If young people do more sports, they will have more problems.
C.When doing sports, we should respect everyone in the game.
D.More indoor exercise can bring people happiness and health.
48.What does the underlined word “They” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Reports. B.Sports. C.Problems. D.Rules.49.What is the best title for the text?
A.Sports Are Just For Professionals.
B.Sports Teach People To Work Hard.
C.Sports Are Good For Everyone.
D.Sports Make People Go Outside.
50.Which of the following shows the structure (结构) of the passage? (P = Paragraph)

The Internet has changed our habits, including our habit of sending greeting cards. There
are many e-card websites that make it so easy to find the right greeting cards. They have
greatly changed the way we send greetings to each other. There are many reasons why people
choose to send e-cards.
First, our lives have become so busy that we have limited personal time. These e-card
websites have allowed everyone to easily share their feelings and emotions(感情)with the
people they love. They contain(包括)plenty of greeting cards that can be used right away. The
users can choose any card they like, from festival greetings to birthday wishes. It’s so
convenient and can save a lot of time.
What’s more, if the users are interested in making their own greeting cards on the
Internet, they can create a card within only a few minutes.
Another reason why people send e-cards is that the e-card websites have made it
possible for them to send their greetings on a specific date. So they can plan for the situation
when they want to send the card. For example, they can send their e-cards on a certain day
and then visit the person with some flowers the next day. This will surely create a good
impression on the person they love.
Lastly, we have never forgotten the importance of saying sorry to our beloved ones. But
sometimes we fail to do so because we are not brave enough to face those we hurt. Some e-
cards on these websites allow us to express our feelings in a more thoughtful way.
Although some people still would rather buy traditional cards in the shop, more andmore people are choosing to send e-cards.
