How to Improve the Efficiency of Morning English Reading
Morning reading is a golden time for English learning. Nevertheless, many students fail to make
effective use of this precious time and end up reading inefficiently.
Quite a few students are easily absent-minded. Some just sit quietly, some chat with classmates or
glance around aimlessly, and a handful even feel sleepy, making little progress in English. To address this
issue, we should take the following measures. First and foremost, set a clear goal prior to reading, such as
memorizing 10 new words. What’s more , read aloud and take notes to maintain concentration. Last but not
the least, take an active attitude. Persistence will enable us to make steady progress.
Morning is the best time of a day. Let’s cherish it and make our morning English reading more
effective.
第二节(满分25 分)
Just then, the door opened, and Avery froze—it was Zoey. Memories of Zoey’s cold and hurtful words
after the match rushed into her mind at once. Filled with embarrassment and unease, Avery tried to stay out
of sight, unwilling to have a face-to-face talk with Zoey so soon. She watched silently as Zoey walked to
the counter to place her order. After choosing a sandwich and a cookie, Zoey got ready to pay, but the
cashier told her all her food had been paid for in advance. Shocked and delighted by the unexpected
kindness, Zoey glanced around the empty shop and soon spotted Avery. A wave of embarrassment washed
over her.
At that moment, Zoey determined to say something that had been bothering her. She walked over to
Avery and lowered her head in sincere apology. “Avery, I...I shouldn’t have said what I did.” She paused,
avoiding Avery’s eyes for a moment before meeting them again. “I’m just as much to blame for the loss as
you are. I’m sorry.” Avery stayed quiet for a few seconds, then relaxed her look and let out a gentle sigh.

“It’s all right. Next time, we’ll get through it together.” Smiles returning to their faces, they came to
understand that teamwork meant sharing both victory and failure, and true teammates should tolerate each
other’s faults rather than lay blame on one another.

听力原文
第一节
(Text 1)
M: Excuse me, could you tell me where the bank is, please?
W: Just past the square down there. It’s beside a post office, and on the other side, there’s a school. No, no,
it’s actually a supermarket.
M: Thank you.
(Text 2)
W: I need to go back. I’ve forgotten something.
M: If it’s money, I can lend you some.
W: Thanks. I have my credit card. But I can’t find my shopping list anywhere in my bag.
(Text 3)
W: How long will it take to fix the car?
M: About one hour. You can sit over there and have a cup of coffee.
W: No, thanks. I need to go find my father. I’ll be back later.
(Text 4)
W: You must have gotten wet waiting for the bus.
M: No, I brought an umbrella but didn’t use it because I went to the bus stop with a shelter before the rain
arrived.
(Text 5)
W: How should I wear my hair to the dance?
M: How about wearing it straight? That looks nice and simple.
W: Or maybe I should do it in big waves? No, I think you’re right. I’ll have it done super straight. Simple is
always better.
第二节
(Text 6)
M: Stella, I didn’t get on the basketball team. I’m very disappointed with myself.
W: No need, Chris. It was the first time you’d ever tried out, and you were probably nervous.
M: That wasn’t the problem. I had never practiced shooting with my left hand, so you can guess how bad I
was at it.
W: Well, now that you know what your weakness is, you can work on it, and I’m sure you’ll do better next
time.
M: Thank you. You really comforted me.
(Text 7)
M: Wow, that looks like an expensive camera, Jessica.

W: Well, it wasn’t cheap, but it was on sale. I saved some money from the presents I received from my
relatives, which was almost enough. And my parents paid the rest.
M: But why spend all that money on a camera?
W: Because I wanted a camera that could help me learn how to take better pictures. I’m really fond of
photography. And although I’m not sure whether I want to take it up as a career, I do take it seriously as
a hobby.
(Text 8)
M: Amanda, what on earth made you move to the countryside?
W: Well, I’ve always dreamed of being a writer. So I finally thought I should give it a try.
M: But why the countryside? You love city life, don’t you?
W: Yes, I do. But I need peace to write. The city noise was killing my creativity. I couldn’t focus for even
an hour.
M: What about money? Writing doesn’t pay well at first.
W: I’ve earned plenty working as a lawyer all these years. Now I can use the money to make my dream
come true. Besides, I’ve already rented a small house with a garden. It costs much less than my city
apartment. And when I’m stuck for ideas, I can work there.
M: That sounds like a plan.
(Text 9)
M: Now, could you please tell me about some of the outdoor activities during the festival?
W: Of course, sir. What would you like to know first?
M: Wild swimming, what’s that?
W: It just means swimming in natural waters rather than a swimming pool.
M: Okay. In a lake or a river, for example.
W: Yes, there’s a beautiful lake just outside the town, and that’ll be the place for swimming. There’ll be
lifeguards on duty, so it’s suitable for all ages. And finally, there’ll be a walk in some nearby woods
every day. The leader is an expert on insects. He’ll show some living in the woods and explain how
important they are for the environment.
M: Sounds great.
W: And if you’d like to read about how the preparations for the festival are going, the festival organizer is
keeping a blog. Just search for the festival website, and you’ll find it.
M: Well, thank you very much for all the information.
W: You’re welcome.
(Text 10)
