You are having a walk in the neighborhood, listening to your favorite music. Later, you go home.
Surprisingly, the music keeps running through your head. You sing it when you do your homework. You hum (哼
唱) it when you eat. Why is that? In fact, many people may have the same feeling. This kind of music is called an
earworm (耳虫).
What kind of music can be an earworm? It should be simple and easy to sing or hum. Usually, the music is
pretty short. A riff (重复乐段) of a song is the easiest to become an earworm. For example, “Twinkle, twinkle,
little star”.
Why do people get earworms? Scientists think it may have something to do with our mind. Sometimes
when we feel bored, our mind wants something easy and interesting. People are likely to (很可能) get an earworm
when they are doing something like walking or doing housework. And there is an interesting fact. Musicians can
have earworms more often than other people.
Usually, earworms aren’t bad for us. They go away as time goes. But how to get them out of your head if
they make you unhappy? On the one hand, our head can’t do more than one thing at a time. We can do other
things, such as reading, talking to others, or watching TV. This can keep our mind busy. Then, we won’t have time
to care about the earworms. On the other hand, listening to other songs is also a good way. Some songs do well in
controlling (控制) earworms. For example, Happy Birthday to You.

B.They usually go away as time goes.
C.They should be pretty long and difficult.
60.What is the writing purpose (目的) of the passage?

People with pets at home often think they know a lot about their pets. But most of them often can’t notice
(注意) it when their pets are nervous (紧张).
There is a new study from scientists at the University of California. It finds that dogs are nervous when they
hear home noises like the sound from a vacuum (吸尘器). 71
“Ginny was a very friendly dog. But one day she began to act very strangely. 72 ” says Emma
Grigg, one of the scientists. “Later, I found it was because of the noises from a vacuum in another part of the
house. When the sound stopped, Ginny became well soon. Then I thought this was interesting and began to study
it.”
The scientists asked 368 dog owners about their pets’ reactions (反应) to daily home sounds. 73
They found that high-frequency (频率) noises can make dogs nervous more easily than low-frequency noises.
“Dogs are different in their sensitivity (敏度) to noises. 74 ” says Grigg.
Scientists think that cats may also be afraid of some home noises. 75 Now they only hope the

In the past years, it is always believed that robots cannot think like humans. In recent years, with the
development of the technology, it seems not difficult for robots to think like us. Some people are worried that
might happen in the future.
Where is the robot technology heading (朝向)? Can robots and humans work together?
Yes—they’re here to help humans. Robots were created by humans. Robots do jobs that are too dangerous
for people to do by themselves. Although robots might take some people’s jobs, they will create new types of
work, and they will probably create more jobs than those they take away. Besides, robots’ program could actually
make them more trustworthy (值得信任的) than humans, because they are not influenced by feelings.
No—humans should not trust robots. Robots are nearly controlling the world. Jobs that used to be done by
humans are now being taken by robots. Although robots are under our control now, that might not always keep the
same. An experiment ( 实验) found that some robots had learned how to lie ( 说谎) to each other. With the
development of AI (人工智能), robots could start to act in their own interests.
The way robots think is more and more 76
to humans. Can they work together?
Yes. Robots are 77 .
·Robots will create more job
opportunities.
·Robots do their jobs better because
they don’t have 78
