The school bus yellow color is not just for looks. It is also a matter of safety. Many people 20 that

When Johnson called again, the manager received him very politely. “That is a most wonderful oil you brought
us, Mr Johnson,” he said.
Johnson nodded his smooth, dark head. That was something he knew very well.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” the manager admitted(承认).
Johnson nodded again. “No?” he said politely. Then he added, “But I think you will, sir. A very great deal of
it.” He appeared to think for a moment. “I think you will find it will be on sale seven, perhaps, eight years from
now,” he smiled.
The manager thought that was uncertain. He said, “It is better than our fish oils. I admit that.”
“So I am told, sir,” agreed Johnson.
“Have you got any plans to produce it yourself, Mr Johnson?”
“Would I be showing it to you if I had?” Johnson smiled again.
“We might add some chemicals to one of our own fish oils,” said the manager.
“It would be expensive to do that, even if you could,” Johnson said gently. “Moreover,” he added, “I am told
that this oil will be much cheaper than your best fish oils. Cheaper than any vegetable oil, in fact.”
“Perhaps,” said the manager. “Well, I suppose you want to make an arrangement, Mr Johnson. Shall we discuss
it?”
“Of course,” said Johnson. “There are two ways of dealing with a situation of this sort. The usual one is to
prevent it altogether or at least to delay(推迟) it as long as possible. That is, of course, the best way.”
The manager nodded. He knew plenty about all that.
“But I am so sorry for you, because, you see, that is not possible this time.”

Hundreds of years ago, no dandelions(蒲公英) grew in North America. Then people came from Europe. They
had dandelion seeds on their clothes. The seeds fell from their clothes onto the ground. Since then, dandelions have
spread all over.
Most people believe that dandelions are weeds. They do not want them in their gardens. But some people think
that dandelion flowers are pretty. And others think that dandelions taste good. They cook dandelion leaves or put
them into a fresh salad. The leaves must be picked before the flowers come out or they will not taste good. Some
people make dandelion flowers into wine.
Dandelions do not die easily. If the winter is not very cold, their leaves may stay green. When the spring arrives,
their flowers come out. Each night their bright yellow flowers close up. When the sun shines the next day, they open
up again. Dandelion flowers are very unusual. They do not have to get pollen(花粉) from another dandelion flower in
order to form seeds. So after several days, the yellow flower turns white and soft. A tiny brown seed forms at the
bottom of each white petal(花瓣). When the wind blows, the petals float away. Each white petal carries a seed
away. This lets the dandelions spread their seeds all over. New dandelions grow where the seeds land.
29.The underlined word “weeds” means ________.
A.pretty flowers B.fresh vegetable
C.green trees
D.wild plants
30.When is the best time to pick dandelion leaves to eat?

C
“Sorry, but I don’t agree with you... ” This is usually followed by unbearable silence and angry tears. I’ve
always found it difficult to disagree with someone because I don’t want to lose a friend. I’ve found it even harder
to accept it when someone disagrees with me, because my ego(自尊心) is hurt.
Before the person gets a chance to explain why she disagrees with me, my usual response(反应) would be, “If
you aren’t able to see my point of view, then what you think isn’t worth my time or consideration, either.” But now
I’ve come to realize that when a friend disagrees with me, sometimes she is simply saying, “I don’t agree with the
way things are done.” She still respects me as a person, and is only pointing out a better way to look at a matter.
However, there may be times when my friend disagrees with me because I’m against the truth. That’s when I need
to listen to what she says.
I’ve learned that for me one way to help my friends is to be open and honest with the others to voice my
thoughts and listen to the others carefully. While we can’t control how a person will respond to our views, we must
learn to disagree with our friends in love. We will never feel that we are better than the others. And that will help us
to be less emotional, and more objective(客观的) in the way we express our opinions. In the same way, we can also
stay open to feedback(反馈的意见) from others, knowing that our friends may be correcting us in love.
Good friendships build each other up, sometimes through disagreements and honest opinions. Though I don’t
like being disagreed with, I’m starting to see the value of such disagreements.
32.Why does the author seldom disagree with her friends?
A.Because she doesn’t want to explain things calmly.
B.Because she doesn’t want to argue with her friends.
C.Because she doesn’t want to break up with her friends.
D.Because she doesn’t want to make her friends happy.
33.What do you think the author used to be?
A.She always did things in the wrong way in the past.
B.She thought she was always highly respected by her friends.
C.She didn’t like to be disagreed with because she thought her ego was hurt.
D.She thought her friends were only pointing out a better way to look at a matter.
34.How should we treat our friends from the author’s opinion in Paragraph 3?
A.We should listen to the others carelessly.
B.We should be open and honest with the others.
C.We should disagree with our friends in anger.
D.We should feel we are better than the others.
35.In what kind of way can we build up good friendships?
A.Through dishonest ideas.
B.Through angry words.
C.Through unbearable opinions.
D.Through disagreements.

Do you get nervous thinking about coming math test? If yes, you are far from alone. Math anxiety has become a
common psychological condition among students around the world. Students in countries with higher levels of math
anxiety tend to achieve lower math grades, according to a study published in the National Academy of Sciences on
Feb 15, 2022.
Math anxiety — a negative emotional reaction to the core subject causes fear, physical suffering and
behavior problems among young pupils, according to a University of Cambridge study. In ordinary life, many people
experience some degree of discomfort when faced with a math problem, ranging from mild stress to strong fear.
Some people also experience physical changes such as having sweaty (出汗的) hands or a racing heart. They
may then try to avoid every situation including number, meaning they are held back from working in the fields
related to this subject, such as science, technology or engineering, according to The Guardian.
Reassurance (慰藉) comes from the fact that those with math anxiety aren’t born to be bad at math. “If a child
has math anxiety, don’t think that they’re not good at math. They may have had a really bad experience with math
and there are ways to improve math achievement,” Daniel Ansari, the senior author of the study told The London
Free Press. Students with math anxiety are not cognitively (认知地) disadvantaged.
Also, there are ways to manage your stress related to math. If you’re feeling stressed before a math exam, it
may help to spend a few minutes exploring those feelings before the exam begins. It’s about making sure you
understand your feelings correctly. Just because you have a fast heartbeat and sweaty palms, that does not necessarily
mean you will fail.
A little math anxiety could be taken as a positive challenge to overcome. Just like many people get stage fright
before delivering a speech, this nervous energy can help to motivate.
36.What do we know about math anxiety?
A.People with math anxiety are often bad at math.
B.Having math anxiety will make you fail the math test.
C.It may cause physical changes.
D.Math anxiety is common among teenagers.
37.Which picture shows the physical change of math anxiety?
A.
B.
C.
D.
38.According to the passage, which is the best way to deal with Peter’s math anxiety?
A.Practice hard before a speech competition.
B.Take challenges to overcome stage fright.
C.Ask teachers for help.
D.Get to understand his feelings before exam begins.
39.Which may not be the future job for a man who is experiencing serious math anxiety?
A.An engineer.
B.An artist.
C.A Chinese teacher. D.A lawyer.
40.Who will be inspired by the passage?
A.A girl who is good at dancing.
B.A pupil who is weak in Chinese.
C.A student who gets lower math grades.
D.A scientist who likes word puzzles.

六、书面表达(满分15 分)
Dear Miss Lin,
Your advice is always helpful to us. I’ve met some problems these days. First of all, I have to spend so much
time on homework that I can’t have enough time to sleep or rest. And the homework is quite difficult. I always come
across exercises that I can’t work out. My parents are worried about my study and arranging extra-classes for me. I
feel stressed. Second, we are going to graduate, so it’s hard for us to say goodbye to each other. What’s more, my
parents and I lack communication, therefore they can’t understand me. When I want to relax myself by listening to
music, they think it’s a waste of time.
I am looking forward to your early reply to give me some advice on my problems.
Yours,
Wang Lin
