听力材料
Text 1
W: Daniel, I feel so dizzy.
M: Did you have breakfast? It could be the body’s signal that levels of blood sugar are too low.
W: No. Maybe I should have a piece of candy before the staff meeting.
Text 2
W: I find Michael’s English hard to understand.
M: Of course. He comes from India and speaks much differently from British people.
Text 3
M: I can’t believe the weather is so perfect for your wedding. The sun is shining.
W: Yes. I couldn’t have asked for more. I was worried at first, because the forecast said there
would be thunderstorms and strong winds today.
Text 4
M: Excuse me. Is it my turn now?
W: I don’t think so. Your name will be called when the doctor is ready to see you.
M: I can’t believe it. I’ve waited for almost two hours.
W: Sorry. But we’re often very busy on Fridays.
Text 5
W: My grandmother used to say, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.”
M: What did she mean?
W: You shouldn’t simply judge others by their looks. Take that athlete on TV for example. He
looks smaller than others. I had guessed he’d lose, but he easily won the race.
Text 6
M: Julia, you’re reading a book?
W: Yeah. I’m reading Robinson Crusoe. This is the task I need to complete this month in the
reading club.
M: Sounds good. What else did you read in the reading club?
W: Last month, I read Waiting for Godot. Even though I finished reading it, I haven’t figured out
what it is about.
M: I feel that way about many books. I will get Little Women and read it.
1W: Good. Would you like some coffee? I’d like a cup of coffee while reading.
M: That would be great.
W: Okay. I’ll make two cups.
Text 7
W: Hi Tim! I’ve been wondering when I’d run into you. Have you been here long?
M: I arrived here on Friday. How about you?
W: I got here one day earlier than you.
M: But we don’t have to be here till Sunday.
W: Yes, I know, but I want to get my things moved into my room, and just take a look around. So,
did you decide to major in English?
M: No, I changed my mind and opted for history instead. And you’re doing biology if I remember
correctly.
W: Yes, although I couldn’t decide between that and geography to start with.
Text 8
W: Would you like some tea?
M: Well, could you add sugar in it? Last time I came to your place, you also made some tea, but
you didn’t add sugar. I couldn’t drink that!
W: I never add sugar. You’d like the way they serve tea in India. They drink chai — a strong
black tea served with lots of milk, sugar and spices.
M: Sounds good.
W: Do you know it was the British who introduced tea to India?
M: No, I don’t. This is very interesting … I’m proud of our habit of having tea and teabags are
great! A great invention!
W: Yes, I agree. I happened to read an article about teabags yesterday. They are older than I
thought!
M: When were they invented?
W: Wait, let me finish my tea first. It’s getting cold.
Text 9
W: Steven, our audience are curious to know how you got into singing. So tell us about it.
M: Sure. My uncle used to play in a band. I tried to persuade him to let me sing in his band but I
failed. I started writing songs at twelve. A famous singer liked one of the songs I wrote. He asked
me to go to his studio and he recorded it. It was he who made me start my career as a singer.
W: You went to an art school, didn’t you?
M: Right. The classes were good. I had some brilliant teachers. They offered us plenty of chances
to get out on stage.
W: Are you working on your new album now?
M: Yes, I got lots of ideas for it while I was doing tours in Asia and Europe. I’m sure it’ll be a big
2hit.
W: And your immediate plans?
M: There’s nothing I’d like more than to spend some time with friends. But actually I’m going to
be on tour promoting my new album at lots of summer music festivals.
Text 10
M: When Dena answered an ad on social media, her sister warned her that she could have
problems, for the ad was a weekend vacation to an unknown destination. In fact, the offer was not
only real, but also a lot of fun. The West Virginia Division of Tourism organized the free trip. The
social media ad said nothing about the destination. It recommended that people have a sense of
adventure. In parts of the United States, mystery trips have grown into their own industry. There
are many companies offering mystery tours. Whether traveling by bus, train or airplane, these
vacations have different lengths, costs and destinations. Dena went on the trip with a group on
December 2nd. They enjoyed dinner, nature and horseback riding. They watched musical acts at a
former general store and spent the night at Canaan Valley Resort and Conference Center. By
sunset the following day, Dena was back home, and her sister did not have to worry any longer.
Dena said, “It was thrilling. I would absolutely do it again, if I can sign up for another unknown
destination where I’m not planning anything. It’s part of the adventure.”
