A
“Although I have been teaching Hao Hao how to say “mom” every day, he is still
unable to say the word. He is now 24 years old,” says Zhao Xinling. Having a child with
autism (自闭症), the 64-year-old has worked hard to help her son.
She is the founder and principal of the Loving Home for Children Special Education
and Rehabilitation (康复) Center in Guiyang, the first of its kind in Guizhou province.
Over the years, she has provided support to more than 7,000 children with autism and
witnessed the autistic community flourish — from being under-recognized to being increasingly
understood and accepted — and she has seen how the community is gaining more support from
society.
Hao Hao, born in 2000, lost his ability to speak at 22 months and was later diagnosed with autism.
To learn more, Zhao Xinling visited rehabilitation centers, hospitals, and schools in cities like Beijing
and Guangzhou. She met many parents facing similar challenges and realized the heavy pressure on
their families. With the help of Dr. Guan Fuqin, a pioneer in autism diagnosis in Guizhou, Zhao
established a center in 2003 where children with autism could learn locally, and parents could support
each other.
Three years later, Zhao started integrated education. She explained that while the goal used to be
helping autistic children adapt to normal life, integrated education also teaches normal children to
understand, accept, and care for autistic children. This two-way approach makes life easier for autistic
children and their families.
Although there are still many challenges ahead, Zhao is confident about the future, “We need to
view autism positively, accept it, and enjoy the different life it offers.”
11. What does the underline word “flourish” mean in paragraph 2?
A.Unify. B.Progress. C.Emerge. D.Restore.
12. What motivated Zhao Xinling to establish the Special Center?
A.Her desire to become a famous educator.
B.Her personal experience raising a child with autism.
C.Her interest in studying autism as a medical condition.
D.A government initiative to support children with disabilities.
13. What is Zhao Xinling’s suggestion for normal people?
A.Be an active volunteer.
B.Show respect to every life.
C.Treat autistic children differently.
D.Help autistic people adapt to their life.
BFeeling burned out and looking for reasons to work less? A new study shows that
working nights and volatile (不稳定的) schedules in young adulthood can leave you to
suffer from depression and poor health in middle age.
The research examined the work schedules and sleep patterns of more than 7,000 Americans over
three decades, from the ages of 22 through 50. To the surprise of the study’s author, New York
University professor Wen-Jui Han, only one-quarter of the participants worked traditional daytime
hours. The remainder worked variable hours. Those with volatile work schedules reported a greater
likelihood of poor health and depression at age 50 than those with more stable schedules.
“Our work now is making us sick and poor,” Han said in an interview. “Work is
supposed to allow us to acquire resources. But, for a lot of people, their work doesn’t
allow them to do so. They actually become more and more miserable (悲惨的) over time.”
Dr. Alyson Myers, a professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, appreciated
the new study’s focus on the connection between work schedules, sleep and poor health.
The study findings confirmed what she sees in many of her diabetes (糖尿病) patients, who
often get no more than five hours of sleep after they work night shifts.
Many of the participants in Han’s study who had volatile work schedules tended to have part-
time jobs, in some cases multiple part-time jobs. “Unfortunately,” Myers said, “the trend for a lot of
these people is that they have to work more than one job to survive.”
Han would like her research to promote conversations about ways of providing resources to help
people live a happy and healthy life when they’re dog-tired both physically and emotionally because
of their work.
14. What does Han’s study mainly tell us?
A.The significance of a healthy lifestyle.
B.The rising trend of working variable hours.
C.The long-term effects of unstable work schedules.
D.Some practical approaches to dealing with depression.
15. What is Myers’s attitude to people with volatile work schedules?
A. Concerned. B. Indifferent. C. Doubtful. D. Critical.
16. What is Han’s expectation of her research?
A.To provide resources for the poor.
B.To help improve people’s well-being.
C.To raise awareness of healthy lifestyles.
D.To boost communication between employees.

According to the Solar Energy Industry Association, the number of solar panels (面板)
used has grown rapidly in the past decade, and it has to grow even faster to meet climate
goals. But all of that growth will take up a lot of space, and though more and more peopleaccept the concept of solar energy, few like large solar panels to be placed near them.
Solar developers want to put up panels as quickly and cheaply as possible, so they haven’t given
much thought to what they put under them. Often, they’ll end up filling the area with small stones
and using chemicals to control weeds. The result is that many communities, especially in farming
regions, see solar farms as destroyers of the soil.
“Solar projects need to be good neighbors,” says Jordan Macknick, the head of the Innovative
Site Preparation and Impact Reductions on the Environment(InSPIRE) project. “They need to be
protectors of the land and contribute to the agricultural economy.” InSPIRE is investigating practical
approaches to “low-impact” solar development, which focuses on establishing and operating
solar farms in a way that is kinder to the land. One of the easiest low-impact solar strategies is
providing habitat for pollinators (传粉昆虫).
Habitat loss, pesticide use, and climate change have caused dramatic declines in pollinator
populations over the past couple of decades, which has damaged the U.S. agricultural economy. Over
28 states have passed laws related to pollinator habitat protection and pesticide use. Conservation
organizations put out pollinator-friendliness guidelines for home gardens, businesses, schools, cities
—and now there are guidelines for solar farms.
Over the past few years, many solar farm developers have transformed the space under their solar
panels into a shelter for various kinds of pollinators, resulting in soil improvement and carbon
reduction. “These pollinator-friendly solar farms can have a valuable impact on everything that’s
going on in the landscape,” says Macknick.
17. What do solar developers often ignore?
A.The decline in the demand for solar energy.
B.The negative impact of installing solar panels.
C.The rising labor cost of building solar farms.
D.The most recent advances in solar technology.
18. What does InSPIRE aim to do?
A.Improve the productivity of local farms.
B.Invent new methods for controlling weeds.
C.Make solar projects environmentally friendly.
D.Promote the use of solar energy in rural areas.
19. What is the purpose of the laws mentioned in paragraph 4?
A.To conserve pollinators. B.To restrict solar development.
C.To diversify the economy. D.To ensure the supply of energy.
20. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.Pollinators: To Leave or to Stay B.Solar Energy: Hope for the Future
C.InSPIRE: A Leader in Agriculture D.Solar Farms: A New Development第二节 七选五(共5小题; 每小题2.5分, 满分12.5分)

Looking for a fun activity? Pack a picnic and enjoy it with family or friends in a scenic spot.
However, a concerning trend is using picnics as an excuse for single-use plastic containers. While it
makes cleanup easy initially, it shifts the burden to later volunteer cleanups and landfill
management. 21 What follows is advice on how to pack such a picnic.
●Use food containers wisely
Using reusable containers is the easiest way to reduce waste. 22 For example, to
reduce packaging, bring items like a loaf of bread, a whole watermelon, uncut vegetables, a knife,
and a cutting board. You can prepare them when you’re ready to eat, so no need to pack everything
in advance.
● 23
Using washable dishes for a picnic isn’t much harder than single-use ones. Instead of carrying
trash, just pack dirty plates in a bag and wash them at home. If you’re worried about breaking, take
some solid camping plates.
● Think about the drinks
Forget the single-use, single-serve drink bottles. 24 Fill personal water bottles with
water, juice or lemonade at home. Compared with a single-use plastic cup, they have the added
advantage of keeping your drinks cold for longer.
● Put cloth bags to good use
Cloth bags are amazing. I use them not just for shopping but also for packing sandwiches, fruits,
snacks, and even fragile items like glasses or plates to prevent breakage. They can also serve as
napkins, tea towels, or even garbage bags when needed. 25
A.Clean up the waste
B.Avoid plastic plates
C.Be sure to add some of them to your picnic basket.
D.There are some healthy dishes you can make or buy.
E.To prevent this, a plastic-free picnic can be a brilliant idea.
F.These create a huge amount of waste, which can be easily avoided.
G.In addition, keep in mind that you don’t have to pre-pack everything.

第三节 读后续写(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
One afternoon, Emma and I were walking home from school, chatting about our day. Emma, with
her curious eyes shining, asked me about my friendship with Lucy. Without thinking, I said, “I only
hung out with Lucy because she wanted me to, but I didn’t really want to be friends with her. She
was kind of boring.”
Unluckily, I didn’t know Lucy was nearby. When I looked up, she was right there, having heard
everything. Her face turned pale, and her eyes got big with surprise. She didn’t say anything and ran
off. Emma and I just stood there, feeling bad. I knew I should go after Lucy and say sorry, but I was
too shocked to move.
The next days were hard. I felt really bad about what I said and wanted to fix things with Lucy.
Even though I didn’t mean to, I hurt Lucy’s feelings. Every time I saw her at school, I looked away
quickly.
Then, something interesting happened. On Tuesday, Ms. Julia said we would do pre-class speeches.
She had written our topics on small pieces of paper and put them in a box. We had to pick one without
knowing what it was. When I reached into the box, I pulled out a paper that said, “Tell your most
embarrassing moment.” My heart was beating fast. It felt like I was given a chance to make things
right.
I spent the next few days practicing my speech, trying to find the right words to apologize to
Lucy. When the day of the speech came, I was still nervous, but I knew it was important to face my
mistake. I stood in front of the class, took a deep breath, and began to share my story, hoping it would
help me and Lucy move forward.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
