Dear Steve,
Visiting the Smart Home Exhibition last Saturday at the City Science and Technology Museum, I’m
eagerly writing to share with you the thrilling experience.
Aimed at making people’s daily life more convenient and efficient, the exhibition showcased the
latest advancements in home automation and technology, ranging from smart lighting, security systems to
voice-controlled devices. What it highlighted was the interactive displays, where visitors could
experience controlling appliances with just their voice or through smartphone apps.
Meaningful and unforgettable, the exhibition is well worth visiting. It impresses on us that the smart
home will make our life easier and smart technology is not a fantasy. If you like further details, I am
always here.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节 (满分25分)
Desperate, we searched everywhere for the missing part. Everyone in the team sprang into action.
Some rushed to the school’ s storage room, rummaging through piles of old parts, while others called
local hobby shops, hoping they might have a replacement. I scanned the robotics club room, my heart
pounding with anxiety. The minutes ticked by, and the hope of finding the part seemed to fade. The car
engine was running, waiting to take us to the contest venue, but our situation looked increasingly
hopeless.
Just when we were about to give up, Mr. Thompson had an idea. He remembered that we had
some spare materials that could be used to make a makeshift part. We quickly gathered around him,
listening intently as he explained his plan. With newfound energy, we got to work. Some of us started
cutting and shaping the materials, while others adjusted the robot’s programming to adapt to the new part.
After a tense hour of work, we finally had a solution. We loaded the repaired Omega into the car and
1headed to the contest. Despite the late start, our team was filled with confidence. At the contest, Omega
performed amazingly, and we ended up winning an honorable mention. This experience taught us that
setbacks can be overcome with teamwork and creative thinking.

Text 1
W: What’s wrong with the fridge, Billy?
M: Sorry, Marie. I accidentally hit it while moving things yesterday.
W: You’d better get a professional to take a look. (1) Is it still cooling properly?
M: I’m not sure.
Text 2
W: Mike, Tommy’s birthday is coming up. But you know, our budgets are a little tight.
M: Oh, we need to cut other expenses to cover the party costs. Perhaps we can cut down on
eating out.
Text 3
M: Mom, what time did Mrs. Green arrive?
W: She came at 3:00 p.m. for your class trip. I disagreed with it at first, but we discussed
its details and finally she eased my concerns. (3)
M: I thought she came to talk about my project.
Text 4
M: Jenny, who do you think will win the championship?
W: I don’t think we can say for sure until the last minute.
M: To be honest, I feel the same way.
Text 5
W: I believe our organic produce selections will surprise you. You can find them in Aisle 5.
M: Oh, really? I’m actually looking for something specific: Roma tomatoes and fresh herbs for
dinner.
W: No problem! All of them are sourced from local farms. We can guarantee the best quality.

W: Peter, you’re back. How did the run go? (6)
M: Not bad. It gets hotter than the weather forecast said, but I’ve still managed to achieve
my daily goal. (6)
W: Good! Have a rest on the sofa. Mom just finished preparing breakfast. (6) We can eat
together and then go to the library. By the way, why was your phone ringing all the time?
Was there something urgent?
M: I have no idea. Where’s my phone? (7) I remember I put it on the table.
2W: It’s on your bed. I put it there and closed the door. (7) It got really noisy.
M: Oh, I’m sorry. I’ll take care of it now.

M: Is that everything for dinner? I see we have hamburgers, sausages, sodas and beers.
W: Yes. I’ll also prepare a fresh salad just before serving.
M: Great. It seems like we’re all set. But you know what I just realized? We haven’t
considered any fish options. (8)
W: Well, you’re right. (8)
M: Then we should buy some fish. It’s convenient to have a supermarket nearby.
W: I agree. Do you need my help?
M: No, I can handle it. You can prepare the ingredients for the salad now.
W: Okay, give me a call when you arrive there and I’ll teach you what kind of fish to
buy. (9)
M: I will. I’ll get there in about 10 minutes, so keep your phone handy.

W: You know, we started doing this at 9:00 a.m. I can’t believe three and a half hours
have passed! (11) And look, the cupboard still isn’t finished.
M: I thought it would be easy if we followed the instructions, but it’s been a mess. Have we
even fixed all the parts together?
W: That’s what I’m wondering. We have so many small parts left. And where did that extra
shelf come from?
M: I don’t know. I think we might have skipped steps. Remember that bookshelf last July?
(12)
W: Oh, don’t remind me! We ended up making it lean against the wall. It looked like it was
going to fall over any second. (12)
M: And a month later, it did just that. (12) It was lucky that no one got hurt.
Text 9
W: Dave, I applied for vacation leave today. (13) Would it be okay for you to handle things
while I’m gone?
M: I think so. How long will you be away? (13)
W: Twenty days. I still have two weeks before I leave. (13)
M: I see. So what’s your plan for the vacation? (14)
W: Well, I’m thinking of traveling without companions, but I’m having trouble deciding
where to go. (14) This time I just want to find a city and spend all my vacation days
3there. What aspects do you normally think about when picking a destination? (15)
M: Hmm, let me think. I always look for places with interesting museums or historic sites.
(15)
W: Oh really? You don’t want to waste a minute, do you?
M: Exactly. They can make each trip much more meaningful to me.
W: I never thought of that.
M: So, what kind of experience are you looking for? Adventure, relaxation, or learning?
W: A mix of adventure and relaxation. I’d love to try some local food, too.
M: Then you should check out Budapest. It’s in Hungary. The city has around 80 thermal baths ,
plus plenty of places to relax, like scenic riversides and cozy cafés.
W: I will! If you’re in need of help at work, please feel free to ask me.
