Procedure
Watch a video and answer the question: What are they doing? The
Lead-in answer is : They are asking directions. Teach students to learn the new
word: direction.
Warming up:
Present different pictures of different places, and lead students to talk
about them: What can we do here? Then introduce the sentence
structure: Where can we ...? We can ... in a .... Lead students to learn
some useful expressions about different place, and key sentence
Step 1
structures as well.
After discussing four places, go on the same way of learning. This time,
change the sentence pattern into Object Clause with wh- question. In
this way, students may find that the way we answer the question is the
same.
Step 2 Listening:Students look at the picture in 1a, then they need to match the places with the things we
can do. At last, check their answers.

Play the record, student listen and complete the conversations in the
picture in 1a.

A:Excuse me, could you please tell me how to get to the bookstore?
B: Sure, just go along Main Street until you pass Center Street. The
bookstore is on your right, beside the bank.
A: Thanks. Do you know when the bookstore closes today?
B: It closes at 7:00 p.m. today.

Present pictures to teach the directions. Get ready for the following
listening practice.
Activity 2a Listen. Students will hear some of the directions below. Number
the directions in the order they hear them.

Activity 2b Listen again. Draw a line to show how the boy walks to the

肯定回答: Sure. /Of course. /No problem. /I’d love to.
否定回答: Sorry, . . . (说明理由)
另外，当我们在问路时常会遇到关于Could you tell me…? 三个句子：
Could you tell me where the … is/are?（你能告诉我…在哪吗？）
Could you tell me how to get to …? （你能告诉我…怎么走吗？）
Could you tell me how I can get to …?（你能告诉我怎么能去…吗？）
1. Could you please tell me where I can buy some stamps?
1) Could you please do …? 请你做…好吗？表示委婉地请求。
could 在此并不表示过去，而表示委婉语气。
2) 当宾语从句原形为特殊疑问句时，从句的引导词是疑问句的疑问词。
这里从句由where引导。
3) 宾语从句用陈述语序（I can）。
2. Could you tell me how to get to Center Street?
1) “疑问词+动词不定式”充当宾语。
e.g. Do you know how to solve the problem?
你知道如何解决这个问题吗？
2) “疑问词+动词不定式”可以转化为宾语从句。
e.g. Could you tell me how to get to the Center Street?
=Could you tell me how I can get to Center Street?Do you know how to solve the problem?
=Do you know how I can solve the problem?

1) until和till同义为“直到……” , till多用于口语。until可以放在
句首, till则不能放在句首
2) not ... until 意为“直到……才”, 表示直到某一时间, 某一行为才发生,
之前该行为并没有发生
e.g. I did not go to bed until 12 o’clock last night.
直到妈妈生气了，汤姆才关闭电视。
Tom didn’t turn off the TV until his mother was angry.

在句子中都可以用作定语或表语，但它们的意思和在句中的用法有差
异。
excited 意为兴奋的，一般修饰人；
exciting 意为令人感到兴奋的，一般修饰物。

Pardon? 请再说一遍好吗？pardon此处为感叹词，意为“再说一遍；抱歉，对不起”。此处表示没
听清或不理解对方的话，希望对方再重复一遍，读时用升调，相当于
“Beg your pardon?” 或 “ I beg your pardon?” pardon还可用于做错事道
歉时，读时用降调；要表明自己与对方有不同的见解，可能引起对方不
快时，用降调。
