In a small village deep in the jungle lived a girl named Hannah. Most villagers followed the same simple life
every day, and only a few of them could read or write. However, Hannah was different. She loved learning and
enjoyed imagining new things.
One day, while walking in the woods, Hannah found an old house. Its door was broken and the place looked
dark and dusty. Although her mother had told her not to enter such places, Hannah’s curiosity pushed her forward.
When she opened the door, she was surprised to see a room full of books shining in the sunlight. To her, it was like
finding a hidden treasure.
Hannah took two books home. Her friends laughed at her, but she didn’t give up. The stories of brave heroes
and magical animals opened a new world for her. She learned about courage, friendship and the importance of
having dreams.
Hannah soon decided to share the stories with her village. At first, only her best friend came to listen, but more
people joined later. With the help of the villagers, the old house became a bright and lively reading place. Hannah
even taught many people how to read and write. Hannah believed that everyone should have a chance to learn. She

greatest treasure is not gold, but a story waiting to be told.

C
As any city dweller (居住者) will tell you, a little
green
space
goes
a long
way
. Having a park around the
corner promotes physical activity and improves air quality. Plus, a tree is a lot nicer to look at than a highway.
The people of Madrid, Spain, couldn’t agree more. The city has become a green-space leader after it replaced
dirty highways and streets with parks and meadows.
It took nearly ten years of construction to complete, but the city’s Madrid Río Project removed a road with
many lanes (车道) — parts of the M-30 freeway now run underground through tunnels (隧道) — allowing
people to have picnics where cars once sped by. A polluted river has been cleaned up, and others are showing up
there for the first time in years. Other waterways have been made wider;pine trees have been planted;meadows and
beaches have been added.
Carmen Munoz, who lives along one of Madrid’s many rivers, told a reporter that she “no longer wakes to the
noise of honking cars, but rather to the sound of birds singing in the trees”. She and her neighbors are also
第 5 页/共 12 页
breathing in a lot less carbon dioxide — over 30, 000 metric tons less, according to studies.
And the change isn’t finished yet. Leaders are working on plans to surround the city with a ring of green, or,
as city council member Mariano Fuentes calls it, a 47-mile-long “forest around the city”.
8. What does the underlined sentence “a little green space goes a long way” mean?
A. Creating small parks is a very expensive and long process.
B. Even a small amount of natural area can bring significant benefits.
C. Long and narrow parks are the most effective design for cities.
D. People have to travel a long distance to enjoy green spaces in cities.
9. What specific change did the Madrid Rio Project make to the M-30 freeway?
A. It widened the freeway to reduce traffic jams.
B. It built new bridges over the freeway for passers-by.
C. It moved sections of the freeway to run underground through tunnels.
D. It completely replaced the freeway with a sidewalk.
10. What can we learn about the Madrid Río Project?
A. It has primarily increased the value of the possessions.
B It has significantly improved the quality of life.
C. It has entirely forced the dwellers to change their habits.
D. It has made the neighborhood more crowded with tourists.
11. What is the main purpose of this passage?
A. To warn about the dangers of air and noise pollution in urban areas.
B. To describe the successful change of Madrid’s urban scenes.
C. To explain the techniques used in building underground tunnels.
D. To argue that all cities should build forests around them.
D
Bako Motors, a newly-established Tunisian company, is looking to jump on the EV (electric vehicle) trend,
while making use of one of Africa’s greatest natural resources — sunshine. Its compact cars and cargo vans have
solar panels on their roofs, While the vehicles (交通工具) still have lithium (锂) batteries and can be charged (充电)
at home or on the road, the solar panels give them access to a free energy source, charging the batteries directly. So
far, the company has made just 100 vehicles but it plans to expand and increase exports over the coming year.
第 6 页/共 12 页
Founded in 2021, the company began making three-wheeled cargo vehicles, but has since moved to
four-wheeled models. The B-Van, which can carry 400 kilograms of cargo and has a 100-to 300-kilometer range, is
designed for logistics and last-mile delivery (配送), with prices starting at $8,500. The other is the Bee, a tiny
2-seat car with a 70-to 120-kilometer range and a max speed of 45 kilometers per hour. It’s specially designed
toward daily, in-city trips and starts at $6,200.
Khaled Habaieb, head of Bako Motors, says that the company is also designing a third model, the X-Van,
which will fit two passengers and have a larger cargo area. He points out that more than 40%of the parts of each
vehicle are obtained locally, including the lithium-iron-phosphate batteries and steel. This helps to provide
much-needed local jobs, Habaieb adds.
Currently Bako Motors is small, but it recently started building a second, larger factory in Tunisia, expected to
open toward the end of 2026. It aims to produce up to 8,000 vehicles per year for Africa, the Middle East and
Europe. “The potential market in Africa is about 1 million vehicles per year,” says Boubaker Siala, founder and
CEO of Bako Motors. “We are targeting maybe 5% to 10% of this market.” He adds that the next five to 10 years
will be the peak of the electric mobility transition (过渡): “We have to prepare ourselves for this transition and
offer inexpensive and good products for the African citizen.”
12. What is the key feature of Bako Motors’ vehicles?
A. They have lithium batteries.
B. They can be charged at home.
C. They are the cheapest EVs in the world.
D. They come with solar panels on the roof.
13. Which model of Bako Motors is suitable for delivery in cities?
A. The three-wheeled cargo vehicle.
C. The Bee.
B. The B-Van.
D. The X-Van.
14. What is Boubaker Siala’s attitude towards the future of Bako Motors in Africa?
A. Doubtful.
B. Indifferent.
C. Serious.
D. Optimistic.
15. What can we infer from the passage about Bako Motors?
A. Its new factory started production in 2025.
B. It plans to take up part of the African EV market.
C. It has already become a leading EV maker in Africa.
D. It is trying to provide more advanced cars for African users.

How to Avoid Catching a Cold
How many colds do you catch in a year? Most of my friends catch quite a few colds. They cough and sneeze
(打喷嚏). ___16___ Their eyes water, and they have throat discomfort.
I don’t get many colds. In fact, I can go for a whole year and never catch a cold. That is why I consider myself

One effective way to keep colds away is to take plenty of vitamin C. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and

easily. I make it a habit to get outside for fresh air every day. Also, if someone coughs or sneezes without covering
their mouth in front of me, I hold my breath for a moment to avoid breathing in germs (细菌). Besides, washing
hands thoroughly is necessary since many germs spread through touch-whether it’s stair handrails, door handles or
money, I always wash up before eating.
If you pay a little attention to these details, you can avoid most cold-causing germs. ___20___ It’s not always
possible to keep away from colds, but if you do catch one, remember to drink plenty of water, juice or milk and get
enough rest.

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Lily loved her math notebook more than any other school thing — it was full of carefully stressed notes and
neatly solved problems. Each page showed how hard she’d worked to learn math. She carried it everywhere,
putting it in her backpack every night and checking it twice each morning, knowing those pages helped her get
better at math lately.
But one Monday morning, she felt scared when her fingers touched nothing but empty space in her backpack.
“Where is it?” she said softly, opening the bag wide and pouring out its things onto her desk. Pencils and a
half-eaten chocolate bar fell out, but no notebook. She searched her desk, looking through textbooks. Then she
knelt down to look at the classroom floor, even checking under nearby desks, but it was gone.
Just as she planned to run to the teacher for help, she saw her classmate Mia was flipping (快速翻动) through
a notebook that looked exactly like hers. Mia was good at math too and they had competed for the top grade last
month. “That’s mine!” she rushed over, her voice shaking with anger and fear. “Did you take it to copy my notes? I
spent hours writing them!”
Mia’s face turned red. “No, this is my notebook! I bought it last week.” She held it out. But Lily didn’t listen.
She thought about their recent competition. “You’re lying!” she said sharply.” I have star stickers (贴纸) on the
cover — just like that!”
The argument got louder and their classmates stared. Some whispered, others leaned (倾斜) in to watch. Mia
pressed her lips tight. She sighed, closed the notebook gently, put it in her bag, grabbed her backpack, and walked
away quietly. Lily stood there, still angry, but suddenly not sure if she’d been right.
