TRAVEL PERU
Amazon Rainforest Tour
A short flight from Cusco takes you from the Andes into the Amazon rainforest. From there, you’ll spend one
day travelling by boat to your accommodation in the middle of the forest. You can then spend three days exploring
the rainforest with a local guide and enjoying the plants, animals and indigenous tribes (土著部落) unique to the

was needed to hold walls together other than the perfect fit of the stones.
Cusco Tour
Spend four days enjoying the unique Spanish and local Indian culture high in the Andes at Cusco, the capital of
the Inca Empire from the 13th until the 16th century. Stay in a local hotel, visit the museums, admire the architecture,
enjoy the excellent local food, and go shopping at the local markets.
Lake Titicaca Tour
Enjoy the beautiful countryside as you spend a day driving along the new highway connecting Cusco to Lake
Titicaca. There, a boat will take you to stay with a local Uros family on an island for three days. Both the island and
the Uros homes are made of water plants from the lake.
So come and experience what Peru has to offer: everything from the ancient Inca culture and centuries-old

Beauty isn’t about having a pretty face. It’s about having a pretty mind, a pretty heart, and a pretty soul. Oh,
and pretty nails!
That may well be Angela Peters’ motto. In July 2019, Peters, 36, rolled her wheelchair into a nail salon located
at the Walmart shopping center in Burton, Michigan, with the idea of decorating her fingers. But Peters, who has
cerebral palsy (脑瘫), was turned away. The salon, which is not owned by Walmart, told her that they were afraid it
would be too difficult to properly paint her nails given that her hands shook. What was meant to be a day of beauty
was now a disappointment.
A Walmart cashier, Ebony Harris, watched the interaction from a few feet away. Recognizing Peters as a
Walmart regular, Harris approached Peters. “Do you want me to do your nails?” she asked. A smile spread across
Peters’ face. “Yeah!” They then made their way into a neighboring Subway and found a table for two. Harris gently
took Peters’ hand into hers and carefully began painting her nails. Peters moved her hands a little bit, and she kept
saying she was sorry. Harris told her, “Don’t say that. You’re fine.”
Watching it all with awe and admiration was a Subway employee, Tasia Smith. What struck her most was the
sympathy and gentleness showed by Harris as she painted Peters’ nails, all the while chatting as if they were old
friends. Smith was so taken by the scene that she wrote about it on Facebook. “Harris was so patient with her,” she
wrote. “Thank you for making this beautiful girl’s day!” “She’s just like you, me, my daughter, anybody. She wants
to look pretty. So why can’t she?” Harris said.
24. Why was Angela Peters turned away by the nail salon?
A. The salon was closed.
B. Her hands couldn’t remain still.
C. She didn’t have enough money.
D. She was not a Walmart regular.
25. Where did Ebony Harris paint Angela Peters’ nails?
A. In Walmart.
B. At Harris’ home.
C. In the nail salon.
D. In a nearby Subway.
26. What is the best word to describe Ebony Harris’ attitude towards Angela Peters?
A. Pitying
B. Impatient
C. Respectful
D. Doubtful
27. Why did Tasia Smith write about the scene on Facebook?
A. To ask for more help for Angela Peters.
B. To praise Ebony Harris for her kindness.
C. To criticize the nail salon for its rudeness.
D. To show how to paint nails for disabled people.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has shown competence across various fields, but matching human creativity remains
hard to achieve. However, companies like StoryFit are using AI in a much novel way, particularly in the film industry,
where it is changing greatly how scripts are developed, and stories are told.
Initially, Monica Landers, founder and CEO of StoryFit, used AI technology to aid publishers in narrowing down
their “slush piles” ( 未处理的文稿) to a shortlist of promising books. However, StoryFit found the publishing
industry’s growth potential insufficient and targeted the film industry instead. Consequently, it has become the force
behind several successful films in recent years.
Primarily, StoryFit analyzes a script’s marketability (市场潜力), assessing where a story fits with the audience
and how each storytelling element connects with audiences. The film industry is high-risk, with considerable
investments required before generating returns. StoryFit provides data on whether those risks are likely to be fruitful.
StoryFit’s AI technology checks character qualities to evaluate audience responses, determining how heroic or
relatable a main character might be. This information allows creative professionals to identify potential character
imbalances.
Beyond marketability, StoryFit also analyzes audience connections to the storyline, offering insights into aspects
such as the audience’s emotional journey throughout an episode or the impact of a favorite character’s departure. The
company also reports on plot inconsistencies, such as characters behaving consistently with their established qualities
or disappearing from the storyline. Nevertheless, Landers emphasizes that their role is to draw inspiration from the
data rather than comment on the script. She stated, “You have people whose whole careers are based on making those
decisions. But we can be a technology voice that helps them to shine a light on what’s happening or not happening
in the script.”
Using AI technology like StoryFit in the film industry shows artificial intelligence’s potential to enhance
storytelling. As the technology advances, its impact on the film industry will only grow, paving the way for more
engaging and emotional cinematic experiences.
28. What caused StoryFit to shift its focus from publishing to films?
A. The financial difficulties of publishing.
B. The limited future of publishing.
C. The decreasing customer base of publishing.
D. The lack of AI competence in publishing.
29. According to Landers, what is StoryFit’s role in script analysis?
A. A data-driven advisor.
B. A decision-maker.
C. A marketing specialist.
D. A content developer.
30. What is the author’s attitude toward the application of AI in the film industry?
A. Unclear.
B. Supportive.
C. Objective.
D. Negative.
31. What is the best title for the passage?
A. AI’s Failure to Match Human Creativity
B. StoryFit: A Great Company Leading the Film Industry
C. AI Transforms Script Development in Film
D. The Challenges of AI in High-Risk Industries

Hydrogen fuel-cell (氢燃料电池) vehicles aren’t just from science fiction or unusual experiments. Cars run on
hydrogen, like the Toyota Mirai and Hyundai Nexo, are already available, and hydrogen fuel-cell technology is
developing fast with the support of billions of dollars in federal research. So why are hydrogen cars almost never
seen on U.S. roads today?
“The answer is simple: cost issues,” Sergey Paltsev, a senior scientist at the MIT Energy Initiative told Popular
Science. Politicians and car makers once supported the fuel cell — which turns hydrogen’s chemical energy into
electricity to power an electric motor — as the future of passenger cars. But cheaper batteries and a lot of electric
vehicle charging infrastructure (基础设施) have pushed battery-electric cars far ahead.
To switch widely to hydrogen cars, we need to cut costs and build a large amount of infrastructure. The
Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center shows 55 public hydrogen fueling station locations in the
U.S. today, almost only in California, while there are more than 68,000 active public electric vehicle charging
stations across the country.
“Nothing will change next year, or probably even in the next five years, but hydrogen vehicles have better uses
ahead,” said Paltsev. In fact, hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles work better for medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks and
aviation (航空). Also, battery-electric vehicles have problems when it comes to driving range, charging time or
carrying heavy loads.
The fact that hydrogen passenger cars aren’t practical in places like the U.S. now doesn’t mean we should just
give up on hydrogen fuel-cell technology. “We might need it for many other reasons in the future,” Paltsev warned.
He pointed out that international political issues could impede the supply of raw materials for batteries, making
hydrogen cars suddenly more affordable.
32. What do we learn about the development of hydrogen fueling stations in the U.S.?
A. They are evenly distributed across all states in the United States.
B. Their number is far less than that of electric vehicle charging stations.
C. They will reach 68,000 in the next five years according to current trends.
D. They are mainly built to serve passenger cars as their primary target users.
33. We can infer from the passage that battery-electric vehicles ________.
A. are not suitable for medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks
B. have solved the problems of driving range and charging time
C. will be replaced by hydrogen vehicles in five years
D. require fewer raw materials than hydrogen vehicles
34. The underlined word "impede" in Paragraph 5 probably means ________.
A. hide
B. delay
C. encourage
D. block
35. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Hydrogen vehicles have completely lost the competition with battery-electric cars.
B. Hydrogen fuel-cell technology is useless due to high costs and poor infrastructure.
C. Hydrogen vehicles face current challenges but have promising applications in the future.
D. The U.S. government should stop investing in hydrogen fuel-cell research.

I’ve done my share of stress-eating with ice cream or distracting my anxiety by buying something online that I
don’t need just to give myself a lift. ____36____

investing in new shoes every eight months — running. ____37____It has also been a comfort to know that I can do
it when I need to as a way to ground myself and appreciate the good stuff in my life.
How did I begin running? My sister Lorie is an inspiring athlete who introduced me to running almost 5 years

schedule, so running is like self-care I can control. Plus, you can make it as hard as you want it to be. That depends
on how fast or how far you want to go. That really works for me. I like to feel energized, and running certainly does
that. It has helped me cope with the lows of my depression.
And as I’ve learned over the years, you can’t avoid stress from your life, but you can counter it with relaxation
in whatever form works best for you. ____40____ However, adding in the effort of running makes it an overall
self-care win for me.
A. It has helped me deal with difficult emotions.
B. Only in this way can you live a stress-free life.
C. However, I didn’t believe and refused to have a try.
D. Some people get that me-time with a hot bath or a great book.
E. I’m happy, though, to just run by myself in my neighbourhood.
F. The way I “fix” myself isn’t always healthy or well-thought-out.

Love walks with us through every scary moment and gives us strength to face whatever frightens us. That’s
exactly what happened to a child and his 78-year-old great-grandmother.
Bridger Peabody, a three-year-old boy, was staying with his great-grandmother Sharon Lewis on a February
night in Strasburg, Colorado. His parents were at the hospital with his older sister, who had hurt her finger. The 78-
year-old woman, whom Bridger calls “GiGi”, was walking with him to the back door when disaster struck. Lewis
tripped and hit her head hard on a concrete step. She couldn’t get up. Blood was pouring out of a cut on her head
and soaked (浸透) her clothes. Even worse, she had no way to call for help as her phone was in the car. They tried
shouting loudly for help. A neighbor’s light glowed (发出微光) in the distance, but no one heard them.
Then Lewis knew the only solution was for Bridger to return to her car and get her phone. She had to ask her
great-grandson to do something that scared him more than anything. It was nighttime, and the path to her car wasn’t
lit. It was in total darkness. Up to that point, Bridger had never even opened a car door, let alone faced such a life-
and-death challenge. But Lewis needed that phone to call for help.
“You know what, dear? You are going to have to go out to the car and get my phone,” Lewis toldBridger, her
voice steady (平稳的) despite the pain. “ But it’s too dark, GiGi,” Bridger said. Lewis knew Bridger was very
frightened, but she gave him courage with faith. “I know, but you’re going to have to be brave. You can do it, my
dear.”
