Mark Twain was a famous American writer. He was also good at making speeches. So he was often invited to
give lectures all over the country. Once he went to a town to give a lecture and got there a day earlier. The town
was very beautiful so he walked around to enjoy the views.
On the way he went into a coffee shop to have a rest. A waiter in the shop talked with him and asked where
he was from. Mark Twain said he was from another town. But he didn’t tell the waiter who he was.
Then the waiter told him that Mark Twain would give a lecture in the town.
“Have you got a ticket to the lecture?” asked the waiter.
“Not yet,” answered Mark Twain.
“Well, the tickets have been sold out,” said the waiter. “It seems that you will have to stand there if you want

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a great musician in history. He was born on January 27, 1756. When he was
four, Mozart started taking music lessons. By the time he was five, he had begun to write his own music. Soon
people all over Europe began learning about “the music genius”. When Mozart was seven years old, he and his
sister began playing for people in Germany. Later, they gave concerts in Vienna, Paris, and London. Mozart never
stopped surprising people with his gift. Once, he was invited to hear some special music in Italy. He was not
allowed to see the music on paper. After he had listened to it, Mozart returned to his room and wrote out all of the
music from memory. No one had ever thought this was possible.

Bartolomeu Dias was a famous explorer in the 15th century. In 1487, the king ordered him to open up a new
trade route to India. In 1488, other members on the ship were too tired to go farther. So although they hadn’t
reached India, they had to turn back. During the voyage, Dias discovered the southernmost tip of Africa — theCape of Good Hope. He was the first man known to do so. His discovery allowed Europe to trade with Asia
directly.
