3. 爸爸 bàba, noun, dad
爸爸妈妈 bàba māma — mom and dad
我爸爸 wǒ bàba — my dad

Example: 我爸爸是老师。
Pinyin: Wǒ bàba shì lǎoshī.
English: My dad is a teacher.

4. 吧 ba, particle, indicating suggestion, confirmation, or hesitation
走吧 zǒu ba — let’s go
回家吧 huí jiā ba — let’s go home

Example: 我们回家吧。
Pinyin: Wǒmen huí jiā ba.
English: Let’s go home.

5. 白天 báitiān, noun, daytime
白天工作 báitiān gōngzuò — work in the daytime
白天上课 báitiān shàngkè — have classes in the daytime

Example: 我白天去学校。
Pinyin: Wǒ báitiān qù xuéxiào.
English: I go to school during the daytime.


NEW HSK 2

1. 啊 a, particle / interjection, ah; oh
啊,好。 a, hǎo — ah, okay
啊,是吗? a, shì ma — oh, really?

Example: 啊,我知道了。
Pinyin: A, wǒ zhīdào le.
English: Ah, I see.

2. 爱好 àihào, noun / verb, hobby; to like
我的爱好 wǒ de àihào — my hobby
爱好音乐 àihào yīnyuè — like music

Example: 我的爱好是看书。
Pinyin: Wǒ de àihào shì kàn shū.
English: My hobby is reading.

3. 白色 báisè, adjective / noun, white
白色衣服 báisè yīfu — white clothes
白色包 báisè bāo — white bag

Example: 我喜欢白色的车。
Pinyin: Wǒ xǐhuan báisè de chē.
English: I like white cars.

4. 班 bān, noun / measure word, class; team
我们班 wǒmen bān — our class
一个班 yí gè bān — one class

Example: 我们班有二十个学生。
Pinyin: Wǒmen bān yǒu èrshí gè xuéshēng.
English: There are twenty students in our class.

5. 帮 bāng, verb, to help
帮你 bāng nǐ — help you
帮老师 bāng lǎoshī — help the teacher

Example: 我可以帮你。
Pinyin: Wǒ kěyǐ bāng nǐ.
English: I can help you.


NEW HSK 3

1. 阿姨 āyí, noun, aunt; auntie
阿姨好 āyí hǎo — hello, auntie
王阿姨 Wáng āyí — Aunt Wang

Example: 王阿姨做的饭很好吃。
Pinyin: Wáng āyí zuò de fàn hěn hǎochī.
English: The food Aunt Wang cooks is very delicious.

2. 矮 ǎi, adjective, short
有点儿矮 yǒudiǎnr ǎi — a little short
比我矮 bǐ wǒ ǎi — shorter than me

Example: 那个男孩儿不高,有一点儿矮。
Pinyin: Nàge nánháir bù gāo, yǒu yìdiǎnr ǎi.
English: That boy is not tall. He is a little short.

3. 爱人 àiren, noun, spouse
我的爱人 wǒ de àiren — my spouse
爱人孩子 àiren háizi — spouse and children

Example: 我的爱人在医院工作。
Pinyin: Wǒ de àiren zài yīyuàn gōngzuò.
English: My spouse works at a hospital.

4. 安静 ānjìng, adjective, quiet
很安静 hěn ānjìng — very quiet
安静一点儿 ānjìng yìdiǎnr — be a little quieter

Example: 这个地方很安静,适合学习。
Pinyin: Zhège dìfang hěn ānjìng, shìhé xuéxí.
English: This place is very quiet and is suitable for studying.

5. 安全 ānquán, adjective, safe
很安全 hěn ānquán — very safe
安全回家 ānquán huí jiā — get home safely

Example: 晚上一个人走路不太安全。
Pinyin: Wǎnshang yí gè rén zǒulù bù tài ānquán.
English: It is not very safe to walk alone at night.


NEW HSK 4

1. 啊 ā, interjection, ah; oh
啊,好。 ā, hǎo — ah, okay
啊,是吗? ā, shì ma — ah, really?

Example: 啊,原来你在这儿。
Pinyin: Ā, yuánlái nǐ zài zhèr.
English: Ah, so you are here.

2. 爱情 àiqíng, noun, love
美好的爱情 měihǎo de àiqíng — beautiful love
爱情故事 àiqíng gùshi — love story

Example: 这部电影讲的是年轻人的爱情。
Pinyin: Zhè bù diànyǐng jiǎng de shì niánqīngrén de àiqíng.
English: This movie is about young people’s love.

3. 爱心 àixīn, noun, compassion; kindness; caring
有爱心 yǒu àixīn — be caring
充满爱心 chōngmǎn àixīn — full of compassion

Example: 她很有爱心,常常帮助别人。
Pinyin: Tā hěn yǒu àixīn, chángcháng bāngzhù biérén.
English: She is very caring and often helps others.

4. 安检 ānjiǎn, noun / verb, security check
过安检 guò ānjiǎn — go through security
安检口 ānjiǎn kǒu — security checkpoint

Example: 坐飞机以前,我们要先过安检。
Pinyin: Zuò fēijī yǐqián, wǒmen yào xiān guò ānjiǎn.
English: Before taking a plane, we need to go through security.

5. 安排 ānpái, verb, to arrange
安排时间 ānpái shíjiān — arrange time
安排工作 ānpái gōngzuò — arrange work

Example: 老师已经帮我们安排好了考试时间。
Pinyin: Lǎoshī yǐjīng bāng wǒmen ānpái hǎo le kǎoshì shíjiān.

1. 哎 āi, interjection, hey; oh
哎,你来了 āi, nǐ lái le — hey, you’re here
哎,等一下 āi, děng yíxià — hey, wait a moment

Example: 哎,你怎么现在才来?
Pinyin: Āi, nǐ zěnme xiànzài cái lái?
English: Hey, why are you only arriving now?

2. 哎呀 āiyā, interjection, oh no; oh my
哎呀,不好了 āiyā, bù hǎo le — oh no, that’s bad
哎呀,忘了 āiyā, wàng le — oh no, I forgot

Example: 哎呀,我忘带钥匙了!
Pinyin: Āiyā, wǒ wàng dài yàoshi le!
English: Oh no, I forgot my keys!

3. 唉 ài, interjection, sigh; alas
唉,真累 ài, zhēn lèi — sigh, so tiring
唉,没办法 ài, méi bànfǎ — sigh, there’s no way

Example: 唉,事情没有那么简单。
Pinyin: Ài, shìqing méiyǒu nàme jiǎndān.
English: Sigh, things are not that simple.

4. 爱护 àihù, verb, to cherish; to take good care of
爱护环境 àihù huánjìng — protect the environment
爱护动物 àihù dòngwù — care for animals

Example: 我们应该爱护环境。
Pinyin: Wǒmen yīnggāi àihù huánjìng.
English: We should protect the environment.

5. 安 ān, adjective / verb, peaceful; calm; to settle
平平安安 píngpíng’ān’ān — safe and sound
安全第一 ānquán dì yī — safety first

Example: 她在面试前总是紧张不安。
Pinyin: Tā zài miànshì qián zǒngshì jǐnzhāng bù ān.
English: She is always nervous and uneasy before an interview.


NEW HSK 6

1. 岸 àn, noun, shore; coast; bank
海岸 hǎi’àn — coast
河岸 hé’àn — river bank

Example: 游客们沿着河岸散步,一边聊天,一边欣赏夜景。
Pinyin: Yóukèmen yánzhe hé’àn sànbù, yìbiān liáotiān, yìbiān xīnshǎng yèjǐng.
English: The tourists walked along the river bank, chatting while enjoying the night view.

2. 案例 ànlì, noun, case; example
真实案例 zhēnshí ànlì — real case
经典案例 jīngdiǎn ànlì — classic case

Example: 老师上课时常常用一些真实案例来帮助学生理解复杂的问题。
Pinyin: Lǎoshī shàngkè shí chángcháng yòng yìxiē zhēnshí ànlì lái bāngzhù xuéshēng lǐjiě fùzá de wèntí.
English: The teacher often uses real cases in class to help students understand complex issues.

3. 按摩 ànmó, verb, to massage
按摩肩膀 ànmó jiānbǎng — massage the shoulders
全身按摩 quánshēn ànmó — full-body massage

Example: 工作了一整天以后,他去店里按摩了一下,感觉轻松多了。
Pinyin: Gōngzuò le yì zhěng tiān yǐhòu, tā qù diàn lǐ ànmó le yíxià, gǎnjué qīngsōng duō le.
English: After working all day, he went for a massage and felt much more relaxed.

4. 暗示 ànshì, verb, to hint; to imply
明显暗示 míngxiǎn ànshì — obvious hint
语言暗示 yǔyán ànshì — verbal hint

Example: 他虽然没有直接拒绝,但话里的意思已经暗示得很清楚了。
Pinyin: Tā suīrán méiyǒu zhíjiē jùjué, dàn huà lǐ de yìsi yǐjīng ànshì de hěn qīngchu le.
English: Although he did not refuse directly, his words already implied it very clearly.

5. 昂贵 ángguì, adjective, expensive
价格昂贵 jiàgé ángguì — highly priced
昂贵礼物 ángguì lǐwù — expensive gift

Example: 这种药虽然效果不错,但是价格太昂贵了,不是每个人都买得起。
Pinyin: Zhè zhǒng yào suīrán xiàoguǒ búcuò, dànshì jiàgé tài ángguì le, bú shì měi gè rén dōu mǎi de qǐ.
English: Although this medicine works well, it is too expensive, and not everyone can afford it.
