开篇

When Daniela Amodei thinks about the skills kids will need decades from now, she lands on distinctly human ones: connecting with other people, having empathy and simply getting along with others.

As co-founder and president of Anthropic, the AI company behind Claude, she has a front-row seat to how artificial intelligence is upending work and the economy — a source of parental anxiety worldwide. We asked her and five other leaders at the forefront of the AI revolution what they are telling their own children about school, careers and life in an automated world.

Their advice might surprise you. They aren’t pushing their kids to master coding or chase supposedly safe jobs. Instead, they prioritize humanities, adaptability, critical thinking and kindness. AI can handle tasks, they say, but humans will still need to make calls, take accountability and nurture human connection.

Deep down, she believes people inherently want to be around one another. “We’re miserable when we aren’t,” she adds. So her biggest piece of advice for young people — even if it sounds corny — is to focus on social skills and understanding how to engage with others in meaningful ways.

There are two competing views on human creativity, she notes. One bleak outlook holds that AI will outperform people at nearly everything, leaving humans with little purpose. Amodei falls into the more optimistic camp: People have an innate drive to create and find meaning. Resilient and adaptive by nature, humans won’t lose that desire.

AI can craft polished reports and offer data-driven recommendations, but it cannot weigh moral tradeoffs, make high-stakes calls or bear the consequences. That is why fields like law, medicine and leadership will remain uniquely human, she tells her kids.
