我国国际航空货运网络加快织密

Nation's Air Cargo Network Woven More Densely

China's international air cargonetwork is being woven more densely as trade grows. In September alone, 15 new international air cargo routes were opened, with 42 round trips a week, and nine airlines, eight of them Chinese, operate them. The growth shows how quickly Chinese companies are connecting with overseas markets.

The routes are spread across Asia, Europe and North America, carrying cross-border e-commerce parcels, fresh and cold-chain goods, machinery and high-end products. Because air freight follows the peak season of foreign trade, it helps keep exports steady and supports the wider economy. Demand comes from online shoppers and factories alike.

By the end of September, 130 new routes had been opened nationwide this year, reaching 334 weekly round trips, official data show. Domesticcarriers have become the main force behind these routes, which greatly strengthens China's own air transport capacity and makes the country's global logistics layout more complete. More near-Asia and intercontinental corridors are also being improved.

Jiaolong Dives to About 4,500 Metres for Ocean Research

On October 10, the researchvessel Shenhai Yihao arrived at the eastern Caroline Basin in the western Pacific Ocean, carrying the manned submersible Jiaolong. Shortly afterwards, the submersible was lowered into the water to begin its 466th dive, which was also the first dive of the second leg of China Ocean Voyage 100 in this region.

Jiaolong was designed to descend to a depth of about 4,500 metres. Two pilots and a researcher from the Second Institute of Oceanography entered the submersible before it was launched. The craft weighs 22 tonnes; it was carried out of its hangar and then lifted into the sea by an A-frame on the ship's stern. Researchers explained that the launch must be timed with the movement of the waves.

According to the chief scientist of the leg, the team will carry out deep-sea research in the area. Although Jiaolong is named after a dragon in Chinese mythology, it is in fact a complex machine that must be operated with great care. The data collected during these dives will help scientists understand the deep ocean, which remains one of the least explored places on Earth.

Si Zhiyuan, a twelve-year-old student from Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, has won the sole gold prize of the 55th International Letter-Writing Competition for Young People, which is organised by the Universal Postal Union and UNESCO.

Her letter, entitled "Two Thousand Kilometres in a Bottle of Honey", was selected from more than 1,480,000 entries submitted by children from 65 countries. The competition, open to young people aged nine to fifteen, invited participants to write to a friend about why human connection remains important in a digital world.

Si wrote to her cousin in Ningxia, recalling the wheat field, the sky and the bottle of honey he had given her. "A video can show me the shape of an egg, but it can never convey how heavy it feels in my hand," she wrote. The judges described the letter as sincere and poetic, saying that it has rediscovered a rare and precious way of communicating. Chinese children have won the gold prize six times since 1981.
