In Hobart, you can see world-famed art, eat freshly caught
seafood and climb a mountain all in one day. Hobart has four
distinct seasons and each is uniquely beautiful. Luckily for travelers,
Hobart’s weather is relatively predictable, making it easy to plan.
Overall, expect cooler temperatures year-round when compared
with Australia’ s other capital cities. The best time to visit Hobart
is during the summer months, when the climate is warmer and the
weather is more stable.
Brisbane is a city that lives up to its sunny potential with a
strong focus on the outdoors. Add to this a dynamic cultural zone,
plentiful wildlife and easy access to nearby attractions like the Gold
Coast and Great Barrier Reef, and you’ve got a destination you
can’t say no to. The benefit of Brisbane’s climate is that winter is
very mild with lots of blue skies and mild temperatures.
If colourful characters and outdoor adventures are on your
wish list, you’ll want to visit Darwin. Along with its wildlife and
tours, you’ll find rich Aboriginal (土著的) cultures fill the city’s
galleries and museums. The city’s nearness to Asia means you’ll
also find strong Asian influences, especially in the energetic food
scene.
Explore the best of both worlds in Perth, where soft-sand
beaches and scenic parks meet a modernized city of small bars,
creative restaurants and street art. The weather in Perth is very
consistent all year round. Enjoy a hot, dry summer between
December and February, and a mild winter between June and
August. From September to November, it is the perfect time to spot
whales rising out of the water along the coast.

China is at the forefront of a transportation revolution with the rapid expansion of its robotaxi services,
particularly Baidu’s Apollo Go. Since its appearance in Wuhan in 2022, Apollo Go has spread to 11 Chinese cities,
completing an impressive 6 million rides. Despite the requirement for passengers to find designed pick-up and
drop-off locations, the service has become a hit, largely due to its affordability, thanks to the generosity of Baidu,
which currently covers around 60% of the cost of a ride.
Apollo Go currently boasts over 400 driverless cars in Wuhan, with ambitions to expand to 1,000 by the end of
2024. Most of the cars in Wuhan possess “Level Four” autonomy, allowing them to operate without human intervention
in most driving scenarios, although they may struggle in complex environments like parking garages. As technology
advances and costs decrease, Baidu anticipates that its robotaxis will become financially self-sustaining by the end
of the year, with profits expected in 2025. This is a significant development in the taxi industry.
However, the rise of robotaxis has not been welcomed by all. Wuhan’s taxi drivers are fearing their roles will be
replaced by technology. It is unclear how China’s government will deal with their worries. Local officials are actively
competing to attract businesses, with Beijing recently drafting new guidelines to regulate autonomous driving, aiming
to make the industry more transparent and predictable.
In contrast, the development of robotaxis in the West has faced setbacks. General Motors had to suspend
operations at Cruise after an incident in San Francisco, and Tesla has delayed the launch of its robotaxi service. If
Tesla is allowed to test its service in China, it may further worsen the concerns of Chinese taxi drivers.
8. What makes Apollo Go popular among riders?
A. Its extremely good service.
B. Its relatively cheap service.
C. Its completely automatical control.
D. Unnecessary reservation in advance.
9. What is Baidu’s financial strategy for its robotaxi service?
A. To count on official helps.
B. To charge high fares initially.
C. To cover a major part of the cost.
D. To avoid financial involvement.
10. What can be inferred about the future of robotaxis in China?
A. They will be limited to developed cities.
B. They are expected to become profitable.
C. They will face significant regulatory difficulties.
D. They are likely to be replaced by other vehicles.
11. Why does the author mention General Motors and Tesla?
A. To make a comparison between them.
B. To introduce competitors of Apollo Go.
C. To present global situations of robotaxis.
D. To explain reasons for the unemployment.
B 9. C 10. B 11. C

Artificial intelligence has persuaded a lot of folks that we need to undertake a comprehensive reform of
education. Now that chatbots can speedily access information and answer complex questions, why bother
memorizing historical facts or quotations? Shouldn’t we instead teach kids to think critically and solve problems
and leave the boring duties to computers?
There’s a problem with these arguments: humans require knowledge to think creatively. Outsourcing our
memory and cognition (认知) to Google and AI risks making us less intelligent and more subject to false
information.
In 2000. American educator E.D. Hirsch noted in his essay: The internet places information at our fingertips,
but using it demands existing knowledge’ stores. This principle drove the UK’s 2014 curriculum reform
empowering multiplication table mastery (乘法口诀表) by age nine — not merely for calculation skills. but to
build the neural frameworks (神经框架) enabling complex reasoning. As former schools minister Nick Gibb
stressed: “Google it’s effectively depends on what’s stored in long-term memory.”
“The suggestion we should outsource our memory to “free up” limited space for more creative thinking is
based on a misconception — we’re likely to overestimate our intelligence, mistaking knowledge found on the
internet for our own,” writes Nicholas Carr in The Shallows. “When we start using the Web as a replacement for
personal memory, bypassing the inner processes of consolidation (巩固), we risk emptying our minds of their
riches.”
Indeed, looking stuff up on Google often results in us not being able to recall it later — either because our
brains are conditioned to think we don’t need to remember it, or because the internet, mobile phones and social
media distract our attention, or both. If students come to rely on machines not just to recall facts but to think for
them, it might not just be memory that suffers: cognition and creativity could atrophy, too.
The solution lies not in rejecting technology, but in rebalancing its role. The UK’s knowledge-rich curriculum,
despite disagreements, recognizes this truth: human intelligence advances when technology adds to rather than
replaces learning.
12. What is the author’s concern about AI’s influence on education?
A. Students avoid complex questions.
B. Teachers prioritize memorizing facts.
C. Students develop poor analysis and judgment.
D. Teachers ignore students' creativity.
13. What do experts consistently emphasize?
A. The necessity for technology improvement.
B. The importance of knowledge storage.
C. The reduction of internet usage.
D. The replacement of complex reasoning.
14. What does the underlined word “atrophy” in paragraph 5 mean?
A. Decline. B. Disappear. C. Strengthen. D. Stabilize.
15. Which of the following may the author agree?
A. Limit AI to education. B. Avoid referring to AI in study.
C. Search online for solutions beforehand. D. Use technology as an assistant.
C 13. B 14. A 15. D

There’s a problem with these arguments: humans require knowledge to think
creatively. Outsourcing our memory and cognition (认知) to Google and AI risks making us less intelligent and

In 2000. American educator E.D. Hirsch noted in his essay: The internet places
information at our fingertips, but using it demands existing knowledge’ stores.(2000年,美国教育家E.D.
we start using the Web as a replacement for personal memory, bypassing the inner processes of consolidation (巩
固), we risk emptying our minds of their riches.(当我们开始用网络取代个人记忆,绕过巩固的内在过程时,
If students come to rely on machines not just to recall facts but to think
for them, it might not just be memory that suffers: cognition and creativity could atrophy, too.(如果学生开始依赖
故选A。
The solution lies not in rejecting technology, but in rebalancing its role. The UK’s
knowledge-rich curriculum, despite disagreements, recognizes this truth: human intelligence advances when
technology adds to rather than replaces learning.(解决办法不在于拒绝技术,而在于重新平衡它的作用。
D。

We all know that first impressions are important and that they are lasting. That’s why we work hard to make
great first impressions. ___16___
First impressions might overshadow your abilities. When you are hired in an organization, a set of inferences
are made about you. Making inferences is human nature. If you become known for your attention to details, you
may never be seen as someone who can see the big picture. If you are the person who organizes all of the birthday
celebrations, you may never be seen as management material. ___17___
First impressions can stamp you forever, often pre-determining the path of your career and how far you will be
able to advance your career. These perceptions paint a picture of who people think you are. ___18___ This, in
large part, is why your careers are held back, why you become frustrated, dissatisfied and even want to leave the
present position.
But it doesn’t have to come to that if you can unlock hidden aspects of your value. Talk about what you are
reading or a project you are working on at home with coworkers and your manager when appropriate. This can
demonstrate other skills you possess. Embrace (接受) new things and become knowledgeable about your company
and industry. ___19___ Volunteer in your company. It is a good way to give yourself the opportunity for others to
see you in a way that is outside of your defined role.
___20___ As people get to know you better, they will recognize your diverse interests and capabilities,
potentially opening new doors for career advancement.
A. Here are some useful suggestions for you.
B. Arm yourself with as much knowledge as possible.
C. Thus, you can contribute in fresh and unexpected ways.
D. It is often extremely difficult for people to change them.
E. Whatever labels, they prevent people seeing your other capacities.
F. Nevertheless, the same first impressions can block our career progress.
G. By expanding your knowledge and network, you can reshape others’ perceptions.

Between exams, college applications, and the endless pressure to fit in, high school already felt like a balancing
act I could hardly manage. I was worried about making the right choices, meeting everyone’s expectations, and
preparing myself for a future I wasn’t even sure about.
But when I saw the skating club poster in the hallway, something inside me pushed me to give it a try. I’d never
skated a day in my life. But I couldn’t shake the feeling that this might be exactly what l needed—a break from the
usual routine and a chance to challenge myself,
The first Saturday morning practice was rougher than I had imagined. Stepping onto the rink (溜冰场), I was

as I stepped onto the ice, my legs also shook and I couldn’t keep my balance for more than a few seconds at a time.
I felt every pair of eyes on me as I skated, and each time I fell, it felt louder and more embarrassing than before. My
face burned as I heard laughter from somewhere behind me.
But as I struggled to regain my balance, our coach, Mrs. Lee, skated over and offered a gentle smile. “You don’t
need to rush. Let’s break it down step by step,” she said, guiding me through the basics. She showed me how to keep
my balance and keep my knees slightly bent. “Focus on one thing at a time,” she encouraged, I nodded, feeling
slightly better, but the self-doubt still weighed heavily on me.
That night, I went home feeling discouraged but also determined. I knew I had a choice: I could quit, or I could
face my embarrassment head-on. After some online research, I found a few videos explaining skating techniques. I
learned about posture, weight distribution, and how to use the edges of my skates to catch the ice better. These details
gave me something practical to follow, which felt encouraging.

Paragraph 1:
During the next few practices, I focused on these key points. Keeping my knees bent and weight centered, I
practiced gliding slowly across the rink. Each fall became a lesson rather than a failure. One afternoon, I managed
three full laps without stumbling. Mrs. Lee nodded approvingly, “Progress!” But when attempting my first spin, I lost

falling wasn’t failure, but part of flying. I wiped the ice off my sleeves and tried again, this time shifting my weight
cautiously. By the fifth attempt, I wobbled but stayed upright.
Paragraph 2:
I decided to apply what I had learned to dealing with my daily life. Facing college applications, I broke tasks
into smaller steps— researching schools one day, drafting essays the next. When anxiety crept in, I reminded myself to
“bend my knees,” staying grounded. In group chats, I stopped nodding to peer opinions and shared my true thoughts,
like admitting I preferred indie music over pop. Surprisingly, friends found it refreshing. Just like mastering a spin,
growth required patience and falls. Now, skating isn’t just a hobby— it’s a metaphor: balance comes from embracing
both control and the courage to lean into uncertainty.
