B With the only giant pandas, Yang Guang and Tian Tian, in the United Kingdom set to return to China from Scotland’s Edinburgh Zoo, crowds have been gathering around the panda enclosure(围栏) to bid them farewell. The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, the conservation charity that owns and manages Edinburgh Zoo, said that the pandas will leave for China, but the exact date and time of departure 高三英语试题 第4页 共12页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司will not be announced because of safety and security reasons. Yang Guang, whose name means sunshine, and Tian Tian, whose name translates to sweetie, arrived at the Edinburgh Zoo in December 2011 as part of a 10-year agreement between the zoological society in Scotland and the China Wildlife Conservation Association. The agreement was later extended by two years because of the pandemic. Since their arrival, Yang Guang and Tian Tian have accumulated a great deal of public interest, and the BBC billed the panda enclosure as a “rock star” attraction that has been at the top of the must-see list of more than 600,000 visitors to the zoo each year. Vanessa Moreland- Strange and Andrew Strange, a couple living near Edinburgh, brought their two children to the zoo recently to say goodbye to the pandas. The family told China Daily they had visited the panda enclosure 28 times since 2018 and “every time was the best time”. To bid farewell to Yang Guang and Tian Tian, the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland has been holding a series of events since January that have proved extremely popular. Activities priced between 30 and 500 pounds ($38 and $630) included a one-hour guided tour and behind- the-scenes experience to help the keepers feed Yang Guang. The tickets sold out in just 90 minutes. The zoological society members said the sales raised more than $53,280 and the money will be used by the charity to help save wildlife from extinction. 24 Why was the pandas’ departure time not made public? A. Due to safety concerns. B. Due to less attention. C. Due to weather conditions. D. Due to a change in the plan. 25. How many years have the giant pandas been in the UK? A. 8. B. 10. C. 12. Conservation Achievements in Edinburgh C Are you an early bird or a night owl? Our activity patterns and sleep cycles could influence 高三英语试题 第5页 共12页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司our risk of heart disease. New research published in Experimental Physiology found wake/sleep cycles cause metabolic(新陈代谢) differences and change our body’s preference for energy sources. Researchers from Rutgers University, New Jersey, USA classified participants into two groups (early and late) based on their natural tendency to seek activity and sleep at different times. The participants were monitored for a week to assess their activity patterns across the day. They ate a calorie and nutrition-controlled diet and had to fast overnight to minimise dietary impact on the results. To study fuel preference, they were tested while at rest before completing two 15-minute period of exercise: one moderate and one high intensity session on a running machine. Aerobic fitness levels were tested through an incline(斜坡) challenge where the incline was raised 2.5% every two minutes until the participant reached a point of exhaustion. The researchers found that those who stay up later have a reduced ability to use fat for energy, meaning fats may build up in the body and increase the risk of heart disease. People who are ‘early birds’ rely more on fat as an energy source and are more active during the day with, higher levels of aerobic(有氧的) fitness than ‘night owls’. On the other hand, ‘night owls’ use less fat for energy at rest and during exercise. Researchers also found that early birds use more fat for energy at both rest and during exercise than night owls. Professor Steven Malin from Rutgers University said, “We found that early birds are more physically active and have higher fitness levels than night owls. Farther research is needed to examine the link between exercise and metabolic adaptation to identify whether exercising earlier in the day has greater health benefits.” 28. What does the underlined word “fast” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Move quickly. B. Go without food. C. Exercise regularly. D. Fall sound asleep. 29. How was the research conducted? A. By making a survey. B. By making contrasts. C. By providing examples. D. By introducing a concept. 30. What is the characteristic of the “early birds”? A Having lower fitness level. B. Using less fat during exercise. C. Being more active during the night. D. Consuming more fat at rest. 31. What is Malin’s attitude to the result of the research? A. Uncertain. B. Pessimistic. C. Indifferent. D. Tolerant. 高三英语试题 第6页 共12页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司D Ammonia (氨) is one of many pollutants present in wastewater and can be poisonous for marine and land life. Therefore, in a process called air stripping(空气吹脱), it is removed from wastewater and later use o as a fertilizer or fuel. Air stripping transforms ammonia into a gas that can then escape the wastewater from its surface. But this process is not efficient: it is energy- intensive, and requires specific temperatures, air supply, and a lot of chemicals, making it expensive. Addressing these disadvantages, researchers from South Korea have demonstrated that the simple application of an electric field during air stripping can considerably improve the efficiency of ammonia removal, even under sub-standard conditions. “So far, the removal of ammonia from wastewater was thought to be dependent on only pH, temperature, and air supply. However we have shown that an. electric field can also act as a modulator (调节器) of this process,” says Prof. Young-Chae Song, the lead investigator on this study. Prof. Song and his team used a combination of live experiments with an ammonia removal tank and deep learning to understand how electric fields of different strengths influence the efficiency of ammonia removal from wastewater. They found that electric fields with an alternating current of 50 MHz and a power of 15 V/cm significantly improve the ammonia removal efficiency, increasing it from 51% to 94%, even under sub-standard conditions. Therefore, improved ammonia yields could be achieved while considerably reducing the consumption of energy and chemicals. Prof. Song comments, “Our findings showed that electric field application provides a similar efficiency of ammonia removal to conventional methods at a much lower temperature, air supply, and pH. Moreover, the energy needed to power the electric field is a minute part of the energy required to achieve these ‘excellent’ conditions.” Indeed, this new electric field-coupled platform could provide a more economical way of getting-ammonia from wastewater and reducing the carbon footprint associated with this process. 32. What happens to ammonia during air stripping? A. It becomes a fertilizer. B. It stays on the water. C. It changes into another state. D. It disappears in the process. 33. What can be inferred from Prof. Song’s words? A. Electric fields slow the process of the removal. 高三英语试题 第7页 共12页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司B. Much energy is needed to achieve good conditions. C. The removal of ammonia depends on electric fields. D. The use of electric fields improves the traditional method. 34. What is the function of the new platform? A. To power air stripping. B. To lower the temperature. C. To provide economical energy. D. To remove ammonia at a lower cost. 35. What is the text mainly about? A. The discovery of electric fields. B. An electric field-coupled platform. C. A new technological advancement. D. Electric field s of different strengths. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余 选项。 Up until the1980s, people in many countries regularly followed in their parents’ footsteps by working in the family business or joining the same profession as them. In your grandparents’ time, there was the prospect of doing the same job from graduation until retirement. 36 Most people now have no intention of following in their parents’ footsteps or even staying at one job for very long. In fact, planning to work in the same field for your entire working life just isn’t practical anymore. One reason for this is technology. The skills you have now are unlikely to remain relevant. 37 And then what will you do? Work hard? Win the lottery? Hope for the best? You might be lucky. But most of us today have to look beyond the little box called “career”. If you think you can work eight hours a day and build a career, think again. It is hardly a recipe for great career success. 38 Keep doing this, you can become a specialist in something one day. You have a chance to choose to build a career, rather than being told to stay or to go. 39 You may have to go back to the classroom and be retrained to qualify to work in another field. It is entirely your choice to learn, or to be forced to learn. In short, lifetime security from one employer is no longer certain. 40 It is up to you to decide what you can do and how well you can do it. 高三英语试题 第8页 共12页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司A. One sunny day, filled with excitement and curiosity, he set forth on a journey into the depths of a jungle. However, little did he know that this expedition would test his limits and push him to the very edge of despair. As Tom ventured deeper into the jungle, he found himself surrounded by giants of the forest, towering trees and the constant sound of unknown creatures. Hours passed as he struggled through the undergrowth, following a path that only his instincts ( 本能) knew. And then, suddenly, it hit him like a bolt of lightning: he was lost. The realization made him trembling with fear, but he was not a man to give way to fear. The initial obstacle that Tom faced was finding food. The jungle was full of life, yet he was clueless about which plants were safe to eat. He cautiously searched for some eatable fruits and nuts. Furthermore, with bamboo and leaves, he built a basic shelter, praying it would protect him from the dangerous elements and potential predators, such as wolves and lions. The subsequent challenge was navigation. Tom’s compass broke down. He attempted to use the sun’s position as his guide, but the shade overhead made it nearly impossible. In desperation, he chose to follow a stream. Journeying along the stream, he had to cross dangerous valley, climb steep cliffs and walk through waist-deep lands. His clothes were torn, his feet were blistered, and his spirit was collapsing. But he reminded himself of his family waiting for him at home, which gave him the strength to press on. Three days later, Tom encountered a lively group of monkeys, their eyes wide with curiosity as they inspected this unusual intruder(不速之客). A flash of inspiration sparked in Tom’s thoughts and he started to copy their actions, hoping he could interact with them. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 高三英语试题 第11页 共12页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 To his surprise, the monkeys responded to him friendly. ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ As Tom stepped out of the jungle, he was greeted by the sight of a small village. ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ 高三英语试题 第12页 共12页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司
