I adopted Motley from the SPCA six years ago. When I first brought him home, he was scared of everything.
Cars terrified him because he had never experienced traffic before. Toys were so foreign to him that he would shake
in fear. He would often spend hours by himself hiding in rooms that I wasn’t in, or in his corner. Play was something he
didn’t understand either.
Two years ago, my husband and I adopted a Bichon named Freddie. Freddie is the polar opposite of Motley.
He is vigorous and cannot stay in one spot for more than a minute or two. He loves chasing toys and playing with
us. He is interested in everything. Taking walks is his favorite activity.
At first, Motley wanted nothing to do with him. Freddie was determined. He kept trying to play with Motley,
until Motley finally caught on, and for the first time in his life he engaged in play. Motley was confused as to why
Freddie was interested in chasing toys. One day, Motley ran after one of them and held it in his mouth. He didn’t
know what to do with it, but it was a start. Motley began chasing Freddie around, so he wasn’t in a corner by himself as
much. As soon as Motley figured out that Freddie was getting to spend more time outside, he became interested in
walking. Some days he is excited enough to walk that he is suddenly pulling us to the sidewalk. Motley learns new
things from Freddie every day and is a completely new dog. We adopted Freddie as a present for ourselves, but he
turned out to be more of a present for Motley.
4. Which of the following can be used to describe Motley from Paragraph 1?
A. Playful and curious. B. Brave and loyal.
C. Frightened and distant. D. Rude and unfriendly.
5. What does the underlined word “vigorous” mean in paragraph 2?
A. Sharp. B. Energetic. C. Lovely. D. Smart.
6. What can we know about Motley after Freddie’s arrival?
A. He became active. B. He was better at hiding.
C. He was loyal to his owners. D. He became a quicker learner.
7. What could be the best title for the text?
A. A Journey to Joy B. A Story of Self-discovery
C. An Unexpected Gift D. A Tale of New Adventures
C
Two days after Alice Munro died, I went to an event in New York and found myself among strangers. A
第4页/共16页
学科网(北京)股份有限公司woman asked me if I’d heard that the great “Janet Munro” had died. Janet? The confusion was cleared up, and
another woman told me that Munro wrote only stories, not novels. Next came the usual question, which people
often ask of someone who writes novels and stories: “Which is easier for you?”
Easy? That’s an adjective that I’ve never connected with literature. I felt uneasy, thinking that these people
might only know Munro for her fame. For a moment I wanted to ask about their favorite Munro story, but I did not.
Because I wouldn’t have known the answer, either.
I first read Munro in my late 20s. Over the years I have become a revisitor of her writing. And between the
revisits life kept changing: marriage, different jobs, giving birth to and parenting two children, losing them six
years apart, and now, still feeling sad. I last read Munro in the summer of 2022, on a family holiday near Lake
Geneva. I had lost one child then; I did not yet know what was to come. I clearly remember the moment I
underlined a sentence when a pair of swans moved effortlessly past me: “She doesn’t mistake that for reality, and
neither does she mistake anything else for reality, and that is how she knows that she is reasonable.” The sentence
reflected my emotions and touched me deeply.
Rereading the passage today, I can’t say I am more clear-headed than I was then. Only, I’ve come further in
life, with new knowledge about what is called reality.
Stories, at least the kind Munro had written in her career that lasted more than 40 years, are life itself.
Rereading Munro is demanding — it asks the readers not to shy away from life; rewarding, too, as I am certain
many of Munro’s readers will agree.
8. What does the author think of the people at the event?
A. They focused on Munro’s novels. B. They were professionals in literature.
C. They knew a lot about Munro’s life. D. They hadn’t read Munro’s works deeply.
9. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. The themes in Munro’s writing. B. Munro’s influence on other writers.
C. The author’s favorite Munro story. D. The author’s personal reading journey.
10. Why did the author underline the sentence about reality?
A. It mirrored her feelings. B. It was a famous saying.
.
C It was the only part she liked. D. It inspired her to reread it.
11. What is the author’s attitude towards Munro’s stories?
A. Uncertain. B. Critical. C. Objective. D. Appreciative.

It’s no secret that social media serves as a platform for self-expression, where individuals share pieces of their
lives, from major events to everyday routines. However, recent research suggests that posting about one’s workout
第5页/共16页
学科网(北京)股份有限公司achievements on social media may show more about personalities than just devotion to fitness.
A study conducted by Brunel University London found a connection between frequent workout-related posts
and narcissistic(自恋的) tendencies. According to Kevin Sloan, a psychologist at Beaumont’s Weight Control
Centers, individuals with narcissistic personalities are more likely to engage in self-promotion, seeking admiration
from others. While sharing workout updates may bring about positive reinforcement (强化) in the form of likes and
comments, it also reflects a deeper desire for external appreciation.
However, not all who share their fitness journey on social media are driven only by narcissism. For a majority
of people, posting serves as a form of accountability, a way to publicly aim for their goals and receive support from
friends and followers. “Complete dependence on social media for accountability can result in individuals being
dishonest, sharing inaccurate information to maintain their image,” said Kevin Sloan.
Experts recommend a balanced approach to accountability, combining social support with self-monitoring.
While apps and online platforms can provide visual demonstration of progress, joining in organized programs or
partnering with like-minded individuals can offer true accountability and encouragement.
Recognizing the limitations of focusing only on external appreciation and numerical (数字的) progress is of
great significance. True lifestyle change requires self-awareness and flexibility in the face of challenges. Rather
than focusing on weight loss or physical appearance, individuals should attach importance to overall well-being,
such as improved patience, energy levels, and life balance. Only by shifting the focus from external appreciation to
internal achievement can individuals develop a healthier relationship with fitness and social media.
12. What does posting about workout progress show according to the recent research?
A. Fitness passion. B. Personal characteristics.
C. An impact on one’s personalities. D. A common way for self-expression.
13. What is the problem of relying only on social media?
A. Lower motivation. B. Lack of honesty.
C. Overuse of social media. D. Ineffective workout.
14. What should people focus on to make a real lifestyle change?
A. Overall health and wellness. B. External praise and support.
C. Daily exercise and strict diets. D. Weight loss and physical looks.

The local grocery store in our old town was a place I visited almost daily for nearly a decade. Each trip felt
like a small but significant part of my routine. The modest store, with its narrow aisles and familiar shelves, became
a constant comfort in my life.
One of the main reasons this store was so special to me was because of Brian, the man who sorted the goods.
Brian had a way of making everyone feel welcome. Every visit began with his heartfelt greeting, “Hello there!” His
enthusiasm made me feel like a long-lost friend, not just a regular customer. He had a genuine smile that could
brighten anyone’s day, and his eyes always twinkled with kindness. No matter how busy he was, he always made
sure to give everyone in line a friendly nod or a word of encouragement. Brian’s presence added warmth to the
store, making each shopping trip a pleasant experience. His cheerful manner and friendly nature were like a ray of
sunshine on even the darkest days.
I later learned from a friend that Brian had been in a severe car accident in high school. He had spent a long
time in a coma and was lucky to be alive. Though he made a remarkable recovery, he never fully got back all his
abilities. I noticed that his right hand would sometimes shake slightly, and he walked with a slight limp. Despite
this, Brian was always cheerful and seemed to have an endless supply of kindness. His positive attitude was truly
inspiring.
One evening, after an exhausting day at work, I was wandering through the rows, picking up something for
dinner. I was tired and starving, and when I reached for a jar of spaghetti sauce, my hold slipped. The jar broke on
the floor, and the sight of the mess upset me. The stress of the day, combined with my exhaustion, was too much to
bear. Defeated, I broke down and burst into tears.

【答案】Dear Mike,
Last Wednesday, our school carried out a series of labor practice activities, such as campus environmental
protection, volunteer activities outside the school, basic cooking courses, etc, all of which had a profound effect on
our growth.
Our class participated in the picking activity on a farm nearby, where there were all kinds of animals, green fresh
vegetables and fruit trees. We drove from the school. Upon our arrival there, we were divided into two groups. Group
One were responsible for picking fruits, the other packed up the fruits. Time flying quickly, the activity was over. But
it was a meaningful day, when we learnt a lot from it.
Through the activity, we know how hard the farmers are and how precious the food is. We should treasure the
food planted by the farmers.
Yours,
Li Hua

【答案】“It’s okay. Accidents happen.” Brian appeared out of nowhere. His calm voice and reassuring smile
immediately soothed my distress. He gently guided me to a nearby bench and asked if I was hurt. When I told him I
was just overwhelmed, he listened patiently, offering words of comfort and understanding. Brian then cleaned up the
mess without hesitation, making sure I didn’t feel any further embarrassment. His compassion in that moment was
overwhelming.
That incident marked a turning point for me. Realizing the profound impact Brian had on my life, I began to
appreciate the small yet meaningful interactions we often overlook in our daily routines. From then on, I made it a
point to copy his warmth wherever I went, understanding that every act of kindness can make a world of difference
to someone. Brian’s spirit continues to inspire me, reminding me of the power of positivity and compassion in
every walk of life.
