A community canteen at the Zhanongkou Community in Shangcheng, Hangzhou recently launched “happiness
blind boxes”, which cost just 6 yuan per box. Sales start at 7 p. m. each evening.
The dishes are packaged in transparent (透明的) containers, but to maintain an element of surprise, stickers
are placed over the lid (盖子) of the “main dish” section of each box. The “blind boxes” have become popular since
being introduced, and on some nights they sell out by about 8 p. m.
A meal assistance program introduced in Zhanongkou subdistrict ensures the elderly can access meals within a
10-minute walk of their homes or have them delivered within five minutes. The service has also been welcomed by
younger people living and working in the area.
Yan Xuyang, a professor at Beijing Union University’s Tourism College, predicts that by 2035, those born
from the 1970s to the 2000s will comprise the main group of customers for such canteens. “This generation has a
reasonable level of disposable (可自由支配的) income, and many of its members may also lack the willingness to
prepare meals for themselves,” Yan said.
The successful operation of community canteens depends on their ability to integrate into the daily lives and
culture of local residents. In addition to serving dishes to suit local tastes and fostering a welcoming environment
for diners it is important to widen the functions of these canteens. They have been used for cultural activities and
other events, which helps raise awareness and foster a positive perspective on these canteens among local

An "artificial tree” has been established at the campus of the cole Polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL)
in Switzerland. To the untrained eye, the device appears to be a satellite dish, but it represents a significant
advancement in addressing one of the major challenges in clean energy: storage.
"This system gathers solar energy and turns it directly into hydrogen,” said Sophia Haussener, head of the
Laboratory of Renewable Energy Science and Engineering at EPFL. "It operates independently of the grid (电网),
reducing pressure on the grid and allowing decentralized energy applications.”
In just one hour, more energy reaches Earth as sunlight than humans consume in a year, according to the U.S.
第 9页/共 23页Department of Energy. However, collecting and storing this energy for later use remains a challenge. Traditional
storage often depends on large, heavy batteries made from costly materials. In contrast, hydrogen can hold over 150
times more energy than a standard lithium-ion battery per kilogram, making hydrogen vehicles lighter.
The artificial tree's reactor works by focusing sunlight to produce hydrogen."The dish concentrates sunlight by
about 900 to 1,000 times,” Haussener explained. The system turns about 20 percent of the solar energy into
hydrogen and can produce around 93 kg of hydrogen each year.
Initially, these systems will mainly be used to create green hydrogen for industrial purposes, but they could
also serve homes. "This system could produce hydrogen that can be used for cars or could be stored and turned into
electricity when needed,” Haussener explained. "The heat produced can also be used for heating.”
A company called SoHHytec is already working on the next stages of the project, enlarging the system in a
garden-like setup. "This is the first large-scale demonstration of solar hydrogen production,” Haussener said.
"We believe this approach could lead to economically competitive production of green hydrogen.”
12. Which remains a big challenge in clean energy?
A. How to generate it. B. How to transform it.
C. How to store it. D. How to apply it.
13. How does the author highlight the advantages of hydrogen in paragraph 3?
A. By presenting data on clean energy usage.
B By explaining hydrogen's production process.
C. By mentioning the cost of hydrogen production.
D. By making a comparison with traditional methods.
14. What is the function of the 4th paragraph?
A. To introduce a tree. B. To compare two methods.
C. To promote a product. D. To illustrate a working principle.
15. What does Haussener think of the broader use of the system?
A. It is unsuitable for residential use.
B. It requires further research to be practical.
C. It could enable cost-effective energy production.
D. It plays a more significant role in the industrial field.
【答案】12. C 13. D 14. D 15. C
第 10页/共 23页【解析】

更轻便。)”可知,作者通过将氢气存储与传统电池存储进行对比,突出氢气的优势。故选 D 项。
【14 题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段中的“The artificial tree’s reactor works by focusing sunlight to produce hydrogen.“The

Dear Amanda,
Thank you so much for inviting me to the online concert! I’d love to join the pop music concert.
There are a couple of reasons for my choice. Firstly, pop music is lively and uplifting, which helps me relax
after a busy week of studying. Moreover, since pop songs often have catchy melodies and relatable lyrics, I think it
would be easier for us to enjoy and discuss them together, even across different cultures.
Of course, I’m open to any music you enjoy, and I’m really looking forward to sharing this experience with
you!

Li Ming was a 17-year-old exchange student from China. With a heart full of dreams and a little bit of
nervousness, he flew to the United Kingdom to start a new adventure. He had always imagined what it would be
like to walk through the historic streets of England and meet people from different parts of the world. But as soon
as he arrived at his new school, he felt a little unsure.
In his new class, Li Ming struggled to start conversations with his British classmates. They spoke so quickly
and used words and phrases he didn’t understand. When he tried to join their conversations during lunch break, he
felt shy about his accent and worried that he might say something wrong. He also noticed that British students
seemed to value their personal space more than he was used to, which made it even harder for him to find the right
moment to start a meaningful talk.
Group work was even harder. During a group project in literature class, Li Ming had trouble explaining his
ideas clearly, feeling like his ideas were getting lost in translation. And he started to doubt himself.
Social events outside of class were just as difficult. At a school party, Li Ming watched his classmates laugh,
dance, and sing along to the latest pop songs. He felt left out, not knowing the songs or the dance moves. He

One month later, his long-awaited moment finally came. The school auditorium buzzed with excitement as
students filled the seats. Backstage, Li Ming stood in his kung fu costume, his hands slightly trembling. When the
curtain rose, cheers fell over the room. His fluid movements combining strength and grace drew gasps of
admiration. When he demonstrated a dragon style, the British students clapped enthusiastically. By the time he
finished a high, sweeping kick and landed firmly on the floor, the audience was on their feet, totally amazed by his
performance.
After the show, Li Ming noticed some changes happening. Classmates greeted him warmly in corridors,
asking about kung fu philosophies. In literature class, group members actively sought his interpretations, patiently
listening to his accented English. At lunch breaks, students invited him to join conversations about cultural
differences. The once-daunting school parties became opportunities to share Chinese pop songs. Most importantly,
