Every pocket of contains poisonous chemicals that can lead to lung cancer and heart disease. This costs countries a lot of money and causes great damage to the welfare of the people. There are huge numbers of smokers in Asia. This is why anti-smoking is chosen as the subject of our ad campaign. The target audience is high-school teenagers. Our main aim is to discourage young people from smoking. Our research shows that health and future is what young people care about. We will educate them about the bad physical effects of smoking and how smoking affects those people around them. We will explain all the advantages of not smoking, such as saving money which can then be spent on other things. Our interviews also indicate that young people are concerned about what is cool and what their friends like. We will show how smoking is not cool or attractive, because it makes people smell terrible, and gives them bad teeth, skin and fingernails. If we can convince young people not to start, they might then urge their parents and other people to give up smoking, too. Our campaign will start on 31 May, World No Tobacco Day. We will put large posters around the school with our logo and slogan. Our website will provide students with more information about smoking. We will also publish an article in the school magazine informing students about the dangers of smoking, and we will organize an essay competition as well. Our slogan: Smoking kills! Many people think that smoking is cool or enjoyable, but they are not fully aware of the damage that it does to their health. This is why we choose this picture as our logo. A British hi-tech company has created a new advertising system that uses lasers to project images up to 200 metres tall from the sides of tall buildings, enabling advertisers to reach people from virtual billboards in the sky. Passers-by will see each image for only between one tenth and quarter of a second, as their eyes catch the light from certain angles.Advertising agencies and big businesses have already signaled their interest, but Skyline campaigners have branded the technology “greedy” and said that it could fill our skies with showy and tasteless brands. The Echo system uses a high laser projector to bounce light off a narrow reflective strip fixed to the side of a building, visible up to 1km away. This creates large-scale images that are captured briefly in the viewer’s eye as a result of the “persistence of vision” effect: the same effect that leaves an imprint'(印记)of a light source on your vision after you’ve turned away. Daniel Siden, the technology’s inventor, explained: People often think this could be subversive, but it’s actually less invasive and more fun than traditional advertising. Mr.Siden said that the system was safe because of the distance between the projector and passers-by. And images would be above the line of sight of drivers and cyclists and below the field of vision of airline pilot. The images have been tested and shown not to cause epileptic seizures(癫痫发作). Because it uses only one strip of reflected light, the system needs a small amount of the power, about one- twentieth of a standard 96-sheet digital outdoor display for an image of the same height. Still, some Skyline campaigners dislike the technology and believe it delivers subliminal advertising(隐形广 告). Barbara Weiss of the Skyline Campaign, said: “It’s actually offensive. London’s latest tall buildings are not particularly well-built or well designed, but unfortunately people are forced to look at them. Adding stupid advertising that’s invasive in its nature will only make it worse.” 8.Why does the writer use the example of Big Mac, Coke in paragraph 1? A. Because he attempts to promote these products to potential consumers. B. Because he wants to introduce a new advertising technology to readers. C. Because he studies the association between products and images in advertising. D. Because he tries to illustrate the effectiveness of flashing images of advertised goods. 根据第二段中“A British hi-tech company has created a new advertising system that uses lasers to project images up to 200 metres tall from the sides of tall buildings, enabling advertisers to reach people from virtual billboards in the sky. (一家英国高科技公司发明了一种新的广告系统, 该系统使用激光从高楼的侧面投射高达200米的图像,使广告商可以通过空中虚拟广告牌接触 到人群。)”可知,作者在第一段中使用了巨无霸可乐的例子是因为他想向读者介绍一种新的广 告技术。故选B项。 9.Which of the following statements about the Echo system is true according to the passage?A. Pedestrians can see the flashing images from specific angles. B. It’s a new system developed by an advertising agency. C. The image will no longer exist in vision after you’ve turned away. D. The system consists of a laser projector, a reflective strip and a physical billboard. 根据第二段“Passers-by will see each image for only between one tenth and quarter of a second, as their eyes catch the light from certain angles.” 故选A项。 10.The underlined word “subversive” in paragraph 5 probably means ________. A. subconscious B. damaging C. harmless D. imaginative 【答案】B 【解析】词义猜测题。根据第五段中“Daniel Siden, the technology’s inventor, explained: People often think this could be subversive, but it’s actually less invasive and more fun than traditional advertising. Mr.Siden said that the system was safe because of the distance between the projector and passers-by. (这项技术的发明者Daniel Siden解释说:“人们通常认为这可能是……,但实际上它比传统广 告更少侵略性,也更有趣。”Siden说这个系统是安全的,因为投影仪和路人之间有距离。)”由 转折词but后出现的“更少侵略性”和“安全的”,可知,划线词subversive意为“有破坏性 的”。故选B项。 11.Which party is likely to set obstacles to the application of the Echo system? A. Environmentalists worried about energy consumption. B. Drivers, cyclists and pilots whose sight might be affected. C. The Skyline Campaign regarding the technology as flashy. D. The patients who suffer from epileptic seizures. 根据最后一段中“Still, some Skyline campaigners dislike the technology and believe it delivers subliminal advertising(隐形广告). Adding stupid advertising that’s invasive in its nature will only make it worse.(不过,一些Skyline Campaign的人士不喜欢这项技术,认为它传递了隐形广 告。添加具有侵略性的愚蠢广告只会让情况变得更糟。)”可知,认为这项技术是华而不实的 Skyline Campaign有可能会对回声系统的应用设置障碍。故选C项。 D(2021·安徽宿州市高三模拟)Do you know of anyone who uses the truth to deceive? When someone tells you something that is true, but leaves out important information that should be included, he can give you a false picture. For example, some might say, “I just won a hundred dollars on the lottery. It was great. I took that dollar ticket back to the store and turned it in for one hundred dollars!” This guy’s a winner, right? Maybe, maybe not. In fact, he bought $200 worth of tickets. He's really a big loser! He didn’t say anything that was false, but he left out important information on purpose. That's called a half- truth. Half-truths are not technically lies, but they are just dishonest. Some politicians often use this trick. During Governor Smith's last term, her state lost one million jobs and gained three million jobs. Then she seeks another term. One of her opponents says, “During Governor Smith's term, the state lost one million jobs!” That’s true. However, an honest statement would have been, “During Governor Smith’s term, the state had a net gain of two million jobs.” Advertisers will sometimes use half-truths. It's against the law to make false statements sol they try to mislead you with the truth. An advertisement might say, “Nine out of ten doctors advised their patients to take Yucky Pills to cure toothache.” It fails to mention that they only asked ten doctors and nine of them work for the Yucky Company. This kind of deception happens too often. It’s a sad fact of life: Lies are lies, and sometimes the truth can lie as well. 12.What do the underlined words “net gain” in Paragraph 5 mean? A. Final increase. B. Large share. C. Big advantage. D. Total saving. 根据画线词上文“During Governor Smith’s last term, her state lost one million jobs and gained three million jobs. Then she seeks another term. One of her opponents says, “During Governor Smith's term, the state lost one million jobs!”(在史密斯州长的最后一届任期内,她所在的 州失去了100万个就业机会,增加了300万个就业机会。然后她希望连任。她的一个对手说: “在史密斯州长任期内,这个州失去了100万个工作机会!”)”可知,关于史密斯州长的诚实说 法是,在史密斯州长任期内,该州最终增加了200万个工作岗位。故划线词组意思是“最终增 加”。故选A。 13.We may infer that the author believes people should ________ .A. buy lottery tickets. B. make use of half-truths. C. not take anything at face value. D. not trust the Yucky Company. 根据第一段“When someone tells you something that is true, but leaves out important information that should be included, he can give you a false picture.(当一个人告诉你一件真实的事情, 却遗漏了重要的信息时,他可能会给你一个错误的印象)”以及最后一段“This kind of deception happens too often. It’s a sad fact of life: Lies are lies, and sometimes the truth can lie as well. (这种欺 骗太常见了。这是一个可悲的事实:谎言就是谎言,有时候真相也会说谎)”可推断,作者认为 人们不应该只从事物的表面来看问题,接受表面上的价值。故选C。 14.What can we know from the example of the Yucky Pills advertisement? A. Advertisements are based on facts. B. Doctors like to act in advertisements. C. False statements are easy to see through. D. Half-truths are often used to mislead people. 根据倒数第二段“Advertisers will sometimes use half-truths. It's against the law to make false statements sol they try to mislead you with the truth. An advertisement might say, "Nine out of ten doctors advised their patients to take Yucky Pills to cure toothache. " It fails to mention that they only asked ten doctors and nine of them work for the Yucky Company.(广告商有时会使用半真半假 的说法。做虚假陈述是违法的,因为他们试图用事实来误导你。广告可能这样说:“十有八九 的医生建议他们的病人服用难吃的药丸来治疗牙痛。”更不用说,他们只请了十个医生,其中 九个为那家恶心的公司工作)”可推知,从这个广告中,我们能了解到半真半假的说法经常被用 来误导人们。故选D。 15.How is the passage mainly developed? A. By listing examples. B. By comparing. C. By inferring. D. By listing numbers. 根据第二段“For example, some might say, “I just won a hundred dollars on the lottery. It was great. I took that dollar ticket back to the store and turned it in for one hundred dollars!”(例如,有些人可能会说,“我刚中了100美元的彩票。太棒了。我把那张一元票子拿 回商店,然后把它交上去换了一百美元!”)”;第五段中“Some politicians often use this trick.(一些 政客经常使用这种伎俩)”以及第六段“Advertisers will sometimes use half-truths.(广告商有时会使 用半真半假的说法)”可推知,文章是通过举例子展开的。故选A。 (2021·山西运城市高三模拟)It’s said that today more than $400 billion a year is spent on advertising worldwide. 1 No wonder, it is widely recognized that the global economy is heavily being driven by advertisements. 2 The advertisers will first of all single out(选择)the market. That is, they need to determine who will buy the product. Then, they will work out the best way to appeal to this market. So they will take into consideration a number of desires or worries the target consumers may have. 3 That is, they will study what words and images their advertisement contains and what slogans they plan to make use of. They will also consider employing famous people and using scientific data to support the product. In everyday life consumers have seen lots of successful examples of advertisements. For example, Nike, Coca- Cola, and McDonald’s, 4 One soap company had all its advertisements show dirty clothes the left, its box of soap in the middle, and clean clothes on the right. Then it started its advertising programme in the Middle East. Unfortunately, since Arabic speakers read Arabic from the right to the left, many viewers when seeing the ad, thought to themselves, “Why this soap makes clothes dirty!” Therefore, advertisers have to be aware of cultural differences when they want to carry out an international advertising programme in a foreign country. 5 A. Lots of questions like these might be raised. B. Finally, they will design the advertising programme. C. A successful advertisement involves at least three things. D. They’re all very successful in attracting and selling to their customers. E. However, there are still some examples that do not reach the expected goal. F. Study the cultural background of the customers, or the advertising programme may be ruined! G. Beyond that, the economic influence of advertising touches just about every consumer-product industry. 1.【答案】G 【解析】根据前文“It’s said that today more than $400 billion a year is spent on advertising worldwide.”(据说 如今全世界每年花在广告上的钱超过4000亿美元。)后文“No wonder, it is widely recognized that the global economy is heavily being driven by advertisements.”(毫无疑问,人们普遍认识到,全球经 济严重受到广告的推动。) G.“Beyond that, the economic influence of advertising touches just about every consumer-product industry.”(除此之外,广告的经济影响几乎触及每一个消费产品行业。) 2.【答案】C 【解析】根据后文的“The advertisers will first ...Then, they will work out the best way ...” C.“A successful advertisement involves at least three things.”(一个成功的广告至少包括三个方面。) 3.【答案】B 【解析】根据前文的“The advertisers will first ...Then, they will work out the best way ...” B.“Finally, they will design the advertising programme.”(最后,他们将设 计广告节目。) 4.【答案】E 【解析】根据前文“In everyday life consumers have seen lots of successful examples of advertisements.”(在日 常生活中,消费者见过许多成功的广告案例。)后文“One soap company had all its advertisements show dirty clothes the left,... “Why this soap makes clothes dirty!””(一家肥皂公司所有的广告都是左 边是脏衣服,中间是一盒肥皂,右边是干净的衣服。然后它开始在中东进行广告宣传。不幸的 是,由于说阿拉伯语的人从右到左阅读阿拉伯语,许多观众看到这则广告时,都会想“为什么 这种肥皂会让衣服变脏!”)后文用了一个失败的广告案例,所以空白处应该与前文构成转折关 系,进而引出后文的失败案例。选项E. “However, there are still some examples that do not reach the expected goal.”(然而,仍然有一些例子没有达到预期的目标。) 5.【答案】F 【解析】根据前文“Therefore, advertisers have to be aware of cultural differences when they want to carry out an international advertising programme in a foreign country.”(因此,广告商在国外进行国际广告节 目时,必须了解文化差异。) F. “Study the cultural background of the customers, or the advertising programme may be ruined!”(研究客户的文化背景,否则广告节目可能会被毁掉!) (改编自2020·山东省济南市莱芜第一中学高三月考)Minh Best, born without arms, loves to paint and she’s found a unique way to approach her work. Some think it is greatly useful as it usually provides up-to- date news, which as a result leads to real convenience to the public.Others consider it often misleads the consumers and sometimes the effects are exaggerated. As far as I'm concerned, I think there are both advantages and disadvantages about ads.On the one hand, Some ads are very useful. They can not only tell people how to compare different products so that people can buy the better ones but also help you save money. However, there are also some disadvantages. Some ads can be confusing or misleading. Sometimes the words sound good but don't tell you anything real, and the picture in an ad looks much better than the real thing. So you have to be careful not to be cheated. We shouldn't believe everything the ads tell us. When my daughters reached the third and fourth grades, I occasionally allowed them to walk to and from school alone if the weather permitted. One warm spring day, a little dog followed them home after school. It had short legs and long lovely cars, with a fawn-colored coat. It was the cutest dog I had over seen and the girls begged me to keep it. The dog was barely twelve weeks old. It had no collar or identifying marks of any sort, I didn't know what to do. I thought about running an advertisement in the lost-and-found but I really didn't want to. It would break the kids' hearts if someone should show up. Besides, its owners should have watched it more closely. By the end of the week the dog was part of our family. It was very intelligent and good with the girls. The following week something told me to check the lost-and-found section in the local paper. One particular advertisement jumped out at me and my heart pounded with fear at what I read. Someone was begging for the return of a lost dog in the neighborhood of our grade school. They sounded desperate. My hand shook. I couldn't bring myself to pick up the phone. Instead, I pretended I hadn't seen the advertisement. I quickly put paper away in the drawer and continued with my dusting. I never said a word about it to the kids or my husband. By now we had named the dog. It looked like a Molly, so that was what we called it. It followed the girls everywhere they went. When they went outside, it was one step behind them. .When they did housework, it was there to lend a hand. There was only one problem with this otherwise perfect picture: my conscience was bothering me. I knew in my heart I had to call that number and see if our Molly was the dog they were desperately seeking. It was the most difficult thing I've ever done. With mixed feelings, I finally picked up the phone. ______________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________ Opening the door, I saw a woman with a little girl sitting in a small wheelchair. ________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 With mixed feelings, I finally picked up the phone. Secretly I was praying no one would answer, but a woman did. As I described the dog to her in detail, her voice shook with excitement and she wanted to come right over. Within minutes I heard a vehicle pull up at the driveway and some footsteps stop at the door. Head cradled in my hands and heart hammering, a thousand thoughts crossed my mind: I could pretend I wasn’t home or tell her, “I’m sorry, you have the wrong address.” But it was too late: the bell rang and Molly was barking. Opening the door, I saw a woman with a little girl sitting in a small wheelchair. One look at Molly, and the little girl’s face lit up. “Here, Lucy,” she yelled, “Come here!” Molly instantly obeyed, wagging her tail wildly. My heart sank. Seemingly sensing my feelings, the woman explained that Lucy(Molly) was more than just a puppy to her daughter, who was left crippled for life in an accident. “Lucy gave her a reason to live,” she choked. Suddenly I felt relieved. God has blessed me with so much, I thought. As they pulled out of the drive, I smiled, knowing I had done the right thing—that puppy was exactly where she belonged.
