My name is Erika Borbos and I have a special hobby —to make things with human hair, such
as rings. They are called “hairwork”.
I started to make hairwork five years ago. It has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl.
Ever since I was little, I saw the women in Vamhus making hairwork and I was fascinated by their
work at once. So, for many years, I have been trying to get someone to teach me how to do
hairwork.
When Joanna Grasse Svensson agreed to teach me how to make hairwork during one winter
holiday, my dream came true. We worked hard for two weeks, from early morning until late at
night. Then I started to make hairwork on my own. Hairwork is just my hobby. I work in the
computer center at a big hospital in Stockholm. My work and my hobby are very different, but I
love to work with both of them. And then I prove that modern techniques and old traditions can be
mixed.
