My parents usually celebrate a special day by enjoying a special kind of ice wine called
Canadian ice wine.
My mother 41 told me the story of ice wine. To make it, people must freeze grapes on
the vine(葡萄树). You might think this is strange, 42 it is true. Sometimes, a great new
product is invented by accident. And that’s exactly 43 we got ice wine.
In the 1700s in Germany, a man was away from 44 farm in the autumn. The weather
suddenly turned 45 and his grapes froze. When he tasted the grapes, to his 46 , the
grapes tasted so sweet. Then, he 47 to use these grapes to make some wine.
Guess what? People really liked his wine. For two centuries, 48 was the only place
making ice wine. Then a Canadian got the idea that this kind of wine could be 49 in
Canada. After all, the winters are cold in Canada and that’s the main 50 for making ice
wine. After hard work, some grape farmers 51 the best process, and soon Canadian ice
wine began to be sold all over the world.
The story of ice wine got me thinking. What other inventions came about 52 ? It’s
really hard to imagine the world 53 penicillin(青霉素) that has saved millions of lives.
And the microwave has certainly changed the way we 54 .
Life is sometimes like that. Something even better comes along 55 we keep our eyes
and mind open.

Mom first saw the coat at Tobias, a nice 59 shop in our town’s little shopping mall. It
was dark green. And it was a 60 , heavy, wool dress coat. Mom pulled it out from the
rack(架) and held it up. “Long enough,” she said in a low voice and 61 .“I need a new

After thirty years in the classroom, I have come to realize that teacher's behavior can
make a world of difference for a child. This is one such 71 .
While I was attending a party being 72 at a high school one evening, I looked around
and noticed a young girl who looks a little familiar(熟悉). I thought she had been a 73 of
mine. I tried to remember her name but I couldn't. I didn't feel 74 with myself, as I have
always been able to 75 the students that I knew in the past.
Her eyes met mine and she threw her arms 76 me and said, “Mrs. G, it's me, Sarah,
and I'm still writing!” The memories 77 . I felt something different in my heart. You see,
Sarah was 78 a student in my classroom. Sarah's mother had gone to a big city and had
remarried. And her father had 79 her. She was sent to live with her grandparents the year I
met her. Sarah was 80 , often in trouble and often in the office.
It was during one of those office visits that I first met her. She was writing at that time. I
introduced myself to her and asked her 81 she was writing. Sarah shared her story with
me. I knew it was a way for her to get away from her pain. So she always put her 82 on
paper. Every morning before she went to school, she would come into my classroom and we
would work on her 83 skills.
Our conversation that evening was filled 84 hope. She expected to go to college.
Driving home, I realized the influence for both good and bad 85 teachers have put upon
their students. Taking the time to connect with a child has the power to change that child's
life. That's why I teach.71.A.class B.child C.history D.story

Happiness is a feeling that lights up your eyes, makes your steps light and makes you
want to sing for no reason. 86 wants to be happy. But sometimes, a guest comes in without
invitation. It’s unhappiness. Don’t let it get you down. Send it 87 !
When you are happy, the world feels like a better place. As a saying 88 : “When you
smile, the world smiles with you; when you cry, you cry 89 ” Wearing a smile will make
you more attractive and help you to win lots of friends. A good mood always gives you hope,
which makes trouble and problems easier to deal with.
No matter how happy you are, it’s normal to feel angry, sad or gloomy sometimes. Life
is 90 ups and downs. We 91 change the way life is, but we can do our best 92 a bad
situation into a good one. To help us do this, it’s good to know some of the factors (因素) that
influence happiness.
One of the biggest factors is social relationships. People who are close to family and
friends are 93 than people who don’t have those relationships. Talking and 94 is a good
way to relax and build confidence. Knowing someone is there for you will make you braver
and more outgoing.
Another factor is work or school. If you enjoy school, 95 you have lots of homework
or extra classes, you will still feel that your school life is 96 and happy. But if you hateschool, your negative (消极的) attitude may cause you to feel bored and upset that you have
to do so much work.
A third 97 is your attitude (态度) towards life. How do you feel if you fail in an
exam? Maybe you think it’s unfair because you always study hard and should have got a good
mark. You can’t stop blaming (责备) 98 Or maybe you accept it. You go through the paper
carefully, find out why you made stupid 99 , and tell yourself, “Take it easy! I’ll do better
next time!” Your attitude makes a big 100 .
Do you smile a lot or wear a long face most of the time?
