The Qingming Festival, also known as Tomb-Sweeping Day, is one of the most significant traditional festivals in China. It usually falls on April 4th or 5th, when the temperature begins to rise and rainfall increases, marking the perfect time for spring plowing and sowing. For over 2,500 years, it has been a day for Chinese people to honor their ancestors and celebrate the arrival of spring.

清明节，又称“扫墓节”，是中国最重要的传统节日之一。它通常在4月4日或5日，此时气温回升、雨水增多，标志着春耕春种的最佳时节。两千五百多年来，这一天是中国人祭奠祖先、迎接春天到来的日子。

Traditions and Cultural Significance

The most important custom is tomb sweeping. Families visit the graves of their ancestors to clean the site, remove weeds, and offer food, tea, wine, and joss paper. This act of remembrance reflects the traditional virtue of filial piety—the respect and devotion to one’s parents and ancestors.

最重要的习俗是扫墓。家人们前往祖先的墓地清扫墓园、清除杂草，并供奉食物、茶、酒和纸钱。这一追思行为体现了传统美德——孝道，即对父母和祖先的尊敬与奉养。

However, the Qingming Festival is not solely a somber occasion. As spring is in full bloom, it is also a time for outdoor activities. People take advantage of the fine weather to go on spring outings, appreciating the beauty of nature. Flying kites is another popular tradition; some believe that cutting the kite string allows the kite to carry away misfortune and illness.

然而，清明节并非全然悲伤。此时正值春意盎然，也是进行户外活动的好时节。人们趁着晴好天气踏青春游，欣赏自然之美。放风筝是另一项流行传统；有些人相信，剪断风筝线可以让风筝带走厄运和疾病。
