1. 课号380：课程介绍
Course introduction
The principal goal of this course is to expand student's familiarity with world culture, while helping them express their feelings, ideas, and questions thereof. We wish to help chicks crack their shells; ignite curiosity about the world around us; give froggies a glimpse of the horizon outside their well -- in short, welcome new travellers into the global village.
本课程的主要目标是增进学生对世界文化的了解，同时帮助他们表达自己的感受、想法和疑问。我们希望帮助孩子们打破束缚，激发他们对周围世界的好奇心，让孩子们一窥井外的天地——简而言之，就是欢迎新的旅行者加入地球村。
We will achieve this through multidisciplinary lessons (language, science, art, music appreciation, etc) focused on interesting topics based in different regions of the world. Content will emphasize current, modern-day topics (aka, this is not a history class). Neither is it a phonics, grammar, or spelling class, and it is not a test preparation course. There will be no tests - assessment will occur in real-time and rely on the teacher's over 10 years of experience with ESL instruction. Students' language shortcomings will be targeted, corrected through modelling, explicitly identified when necessary, and then corrected language forms practiced through constructive dialogue.

Classes will lay emphasis on question/answer group conversations and fully encourage/support self-expression of each and every student. Lessons will incorporate audiovisual materials (images, videos, and audio), science experiments, readings, and occasional art projects (visual art, dance, etc).

There will be continual assessment and development of oral expression, listening comprehension, (conversation) , grammar, and vocabulary. Each student will be engaged and challenged (linguistically and intellectually) according to his or her language level. Motivation will come from

* a malleable learning environment where students have agency (empowering students to take control of their learning journey)
* content that kids actually find interesting
* a fun, relaxed learning environment

2.【Teaching Methods 教学形式】
This course is student-focused. Various teaching styles will be employed, as demanded by children's continually shifting attitudes, interest, focus, and emotional states. Teaching styles include but are certainly not limited to:
* Traditional lecture-style instruction
* Inquiry-based
* Project-based
* Individual work
* Small groups
* Whole class
Student interest may reroute or completely change planned class content -- the teacher will be sensitive to and respect this, but will always maintain a positive and productive academic focus.

HUMANITY

* Are we all the same? We will look at both similarities AND differences that exist between the appearance, language, life and customs of different countries, and then of different peoples within the same country. We're not going to tell students that all humans are the same OR different, but let them see and decide for themselves.
We'll then look at how different people, regardless of race or gender, may react in different situations.
How do different peoples across the globe:
* Celebrate birthdays? Get married?
* Perceive beauty? Celebrate different holidays?
* Say “Hello” and “Goodbye”? Keep pets?
* Eat meals? And what kinds of food do they eat?

**We encourage parental involvement. As we proceed, parents are encouraged to suggest study topics, and the curriculum can evolve in a dynamic and holistic manner.
