长征，九十岁了

The Long March Is Ninety Years Old

This year is the ninetieth birthday of the Long March. It is a famous story about the Red Army in China.

In 1934, the Red Army left Yudu in Jiangxi. Before they set out, soldiers saw that village people had to walk far up the hill for water, so they dug a well. When water came out, everyone jumped and cheered. In 1936, three main groups of the army met in Huining, Gansu, and the march ended.

American visitors came to Yudu this year. A young guide told them the old story about the well. China also named its first space rocket the Long March Rocket.

China just showed the world its money news for the first three seasons of this year. The country made more than 107 trillion yuan, and the number grew by 4.6 percent. It is a big step forward.

The news also says 10.52 million new jobs opened in the cities. Things people buy did not become much more expensive, so life stays steady. More cleanpower now comes from water, wind and sun. Six out of ten new cars on the road use electricity instead of petrol.

Many factories kept making more goods, and China sold more things to other countries. Oil and gas at home also reached a high level for this time of year.

A Tea Party For Old Friends

In Guangzhou, more than one hundred old people sat together at a big lunch on October 20. The restaurant is full every morning, and this time the tables were full of grandmas and grandpas.

The party is not new. It started in 2016, and the city helps to run it every year. Young volunteers meet the old people at the door and walk them up the stairs. They pour tea, take photos and carry the plates. Some grandkids came to help too.

The food is what old friends love: shrimp dumplings, chicken feet and hot rice rolls. Everyone drank tea, talked and laughed. One table came for ten years in a row, so they all knew each other very well.
