Once again, congratulations on your splendid achievement. Looking forward to your

Li Hua
Three agonizing (令人焦虑不安的) hours passed, each feeling like years. During this
time, the collective effort of the crowd grew stronger. Everyone searched tirelessly,
combing through every corner, determined to bring the mother and son back together. No
avenue was left unexplored in their unwavering pursuit. Finally, a kind-hearted tourist
with a keen eye spotted a boy in a cave nearby. It was the young lost son, standing
alone, tears welling up in his eyes. The news spread like wildfire, and with triumphant
shouts of joy, the crowd rushed towards him.
As the mother tightly folded her son in her arms, a wave of delight washed over
her. Tears of relief mixed with tears of overwhelming gratitude streamed down her face,
expressing the profound emotions within her. It was an unforgettable moment filled with
immense joy and immeasurable love. Witnessing this heartwarming reunion, the crowd
erupted in applause. Strangers had transformed into caring friends in this extraordinary
act of love, coming together to help ease the mother’s distress and anxiety caused by

M: Hello. International Friends Club. Can I help you?
W: Oh, hello. I read about your club in the paper today and I thought I’d phone to find out a bit
more.
M: Yes, certainly, well, we’re a sort of social club for people from different countries. It’s quite a
new club — we have about 50 members at the moment, but we’re growing all the time.
W: That sounds interesting.

(Text 1)
M: I picked up a cell phone here a few days ago, but it seems to be out of order.
W: I’m sorry about that. I will contact the manufacturer right away and have a brand-new one of
the same model here at the store as soon as possible.
(Text 2)
W: Ben, I hear you are taking part in the speaking competition.
M: Yes, and I came to ask you to give me some guidance on the art of public speaking.
(Text 3)
2
学科网(北京)股份有限公司W: Look how nice these tomatoes are. Should we pick some out?
M: Sure. Let’s make a soup tonight for dinner.
W: Perfect. Then we’ll also need some garlic too. And fresh bread. Let’s see if we can find a
French stick.
(Text 4)
W: What do you think about the new office layout?
M: I like the computers by the window. Seeing outside and enjoying the nice weather, but we
could do with some more plants.
W: We’ve just got some more? It’d look like a jungle in here! But … maybe we could fit another
one next to the water cooler.
M: Great!
(Text 5)
W: So South America? Wow! How long for?
M: Three months. It’s only temporary but I’ve already started taking Spanish lessons, which are
okay. It’s funny as I would’ve thought the company’d have gotten me an apartment rather
than a hotel for that long.
W: I suppose it’s not long enough for most rental contracts.
第一节到此结束。
第二节

W: Hey Jason, did you hear about the new gallery in town?
M: No.
W: It’s going to show work from emerging artists. It’ll be a great opportunity to get involved.
M: What do you mean?
W: We could submit some of our own art and see if it gets accepted. It’ll be a great chance to get
our work seen by a wider audience.
M: Great idea! Have you looked into the submission process yet?
W: Yeah, it’s on their website. We just need to fill out a form and attach some samples of our
work.
M: Okay, let’s do it!
听下面一段对话,回答第8至第10三个小题。现在,你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小
题。
(Text 7)
W: Your community center chess club seems to be taking off, Jimmy!
3
学科网(北京)股份有限公司M: I know, Linda, who would have expected it? We just wanted to run some local tournaments
for a bit of fun and now we’re doing beginners’ classes and some of the old guys are sharing
advanced chess strategies.
W: It’s great! I love how it crosses age groups with 10-year-old geniuses and oldies who are just
starting.
M: Yeah, but the most important thing is that it’s sociable and fun.
W: You know, it doesn’t need much encouragement, but I was thinking of financing your group
…
M: What? Really? You’re so generous! Thanks Linda!
听下面一段对话,回答第11至第13三个小题。现在,你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小
题。
(Text 8)
W: This latest book by Louise Roberts is amazing! It’s full of excitement and drama but it’s
actually a self-help book!
M: That sounds a bit strange. Normally they’re quite boring, technical and overexplain
everything.
W: Yeah, I agree. I usually end up skipping through them looking for practical tips. Like, what
can I actually employ into my life?
M: Exactly! How does she get away with it?
W: Well, it’s her own story with real-life events, how she learnt to cope with what happened and
how she would do things differently. It doesn’t give you direct answers, but reminds you to
be mindful in difficult situations.
M: Hmm … It sounds interesting but not really my cup of tea.
W: I know what you’re thinking, but you’ll be surprised. Read the first two chapters and tell me
what you think.
M: So, what’s the setup?
W: She started out as a country girl. After a disaster in her community she leads some change.
M: Oh, I’m curious now.
听下面一段对话,回答第14至第17四个小题。现在,你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小
题。
(Text 9)
W: Wow, that was a ton of eggs! Your chickens are machines!
M: Haha, yeah, welcome to the countryside! There’s certainly no chaos of your city life or the
boredom of those suburbs!
W: It’s wild! In the city, we just go to the corner store for eggs. You don’t need to dig them out
from under a chicken’s er ... bottom.
M: And you miss out on the fun!
W: Hah! You’ve got a strange definition of “fun”. Watching a play in the park, that’s fun!
M: We’ve both got our own benefits. Did you enjoy the farm truck ride though?
4
学科网(北京)股份有限公司W: It was okay but so bouncy. My organs feel rearranged. And those things don’t come with seat
belts!
M: You’re telling me! Try chasing a goat that’s got the taste of freedom.
W: Haha! I’ll stick to my subways. Thank you very much. The wildest thing there is the
occasional street performer.
M: Well, now you’ve survived the egg collection and truck ride, we’ve got fence painting after
lunch.
W: Wow. Farm-style fun never ends, huh? Can’t wait …
M: It’s no play in the park, but hey, we can listen to some good country music.
W: Suppose, I’ll have to trade my subway noise for some country accent then.
听下面一段独白,回答第18至第20三个小题。现在,你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小
题。
(Text 10)
W: Hello, today, I’m discussing a topic you may not have considered: the importance of sand,
both for our personal enjoyment and its environmental impacts.
The sound of waves on the shore, the joy of sunbathing on sandy beaches … Our bond with
nature seems natural. However, not all beaches are natural. Pop-up beaches, created by
truckloads of sand into city centers, have become popular.
These man-made beaches seem like a harmless bit of fun, but they can cause problems. The
removal of sand for these projects can use up natural beaches and disturb nature, which has
knock-on effects that aren’t immediately visible.
Similarly, the construction industry’s need for sand for concrete also contributes to this
problem. With urbanization increasing, the demand for housing in cities has led to a
concerning rate of sand removal from our beaches and rivers. This not only affects the
tourism industry but could also impact local communities’ livelihoods, such as fishing, and
changing weather patterns.
So, what can we do? Chemists and architects are looking at creating sand from recycled
materials and promoting nature-tourism and informing people about the negative effects.
While we all enjoy the beach, we must also recognize our responsibility to protect these
natural spaces and the environments they support.
