They are century-old activities B I am one of only a small group of people I know who make a living directing or producing films. but I know that there are a million other amazing creative people out there making beautiful work who I would love to meet and maybe even work with. Here are two technologies that have amazingly directed my creative life to where I want to see it go. I use this first social platform not to just share my travel experiences, but to connect in person with other travelers, great filmmakers, and interesting creative people I find when searching for my next place. I used Instagram to meet with the people I have now adventured with. I know some people are technology haters, but when used in the right way in this connected world, it can do just the opposite. With the help of technology, you can meet people face-to-face and talk about your interests, and most importantly, teach and learn from one another. This next technology is the real faraway solution to staying connected. Being able to build a deep and meaningful personal or business relationship just over the phone is challenging. Skype was the answer to so many things for me in the last year. The first time I used Skype was back in 2007 backpacking (背包旅行) around Europe. I decided to leave my computer and phone behind and was able to use Skype to call home, friends and family. Since then, Skype has evolved (逐渐演变) into a valuable business tool for me. I use it to set up meetings, reconnect with friends I meet on adventures, and plan creative adventures with other travelers. Without the combination of my two best technology friends. I would have never been able to be at the point I am in my creative career, keep close friendships, and meet some of the most interesting people I would have never come across otherwise. 4. What does the author do? A. She is a tour guide. B. She is a filmmaker. C. She is a travel writer. D. She is a natural scientist.5. What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 4 refer to? A. This world B. Technology. C. Connection D. The right way. 6. What did the author use Skype for at first? A. Staying connected. B. Setting up new friendships. C. Helping with the development of her business. D. Getting information about tourist attractions. 7. What is the author’s main purpose in writing this text? A. To explain how technology changes people’s life. B. To explain how she uses technology in her business. C. To introduce the influence of technology on her life. D. To introduce the two most important technologies in people’s life. C . Almost everyone has been called an imitator before It’s within human nature to feel inspired by someone’s work. But we’ve also felt annoyed when someone calls our works his own. Many artists are feeling this same annoyance with the recent rise in popularity of Al art generators. Stable Diffusion, an Al art generator, allows users to type out descriptions of an image and the AI will generate that image. This is the case of Kelly McKerman, Karla Ortiz and Sarah Anderson, the three artists behind a recent lawsuit (诉讼) against Al art generators. For McKerman, finding out that her art was an inspiration was initially exciting. But she soon realized that the generator allowed anyone to create an original piece of art in her style, with no credit to her. This realization made McKerman angry on behalf of all artists. A world in which anyone can generate art in an instant creates a lessened need for independent artists. It’s also harmful because Al art generators create art in specific artists’ styles in an instant with no credit to them, even though it may have taken the artists hours to create the original piece. Art generators are not only unfair to current artists, but they are also discouraging to potential future artists. As a person who has considered a career in art, knowing that my work could be used in this way makes me hesitant about pursuing this route. This way of thinking is not uncommon, which should be incredibly worrying. Whether it be graffiti (涂鸦) to support a movement or a fine art piece about injustice, art is a vehicle for social change. Furthermore, art is entertainment; animated movies could not exist without digital artists. Finally, art contains great cultural and historical relevance. The fact that art is essential means that it needs to be protected. Al art generators, like Stable Diffusion, are threatening artists’ rights worldwide. Thus, government regulation and clarified protection of artists’ rights to theirwork is key to tackling this new world of AI generated art. 8. Why have many artists got annoyed recently? A. They have been caught up in a lawsuit. B. They have failed to find art inspiration. C. Al art generators create works of art rapidly. D. AI art generators allow users to make imitative images. 9. What is McKernan’s attitude toward Al art generators? A. Uncaring. B. Positive. C. Disapproving. D. Doubtful. 10. What is the purpose of paragraph 4? A. To stress the value of art. B. To predict the future of art. C. To describe how AI art generators work. D. To explain how Al art generators impact artists. 11. What is the author’s opinion on Al art generators? A. They should be governed by specific rules. B. They should be used to aid artists. C. They should be protected. D. They should be banned. D Amsterdam has long had a problem with people throwing away bikes in the city’s rivers. But now, people will be able to park their bikes underwater and actually get them back thanks to a new underwater bike parking area. The city is hoping to ease bike parking by adding thousands of bike parking spots under Amsterdam’s Central Station. The Open Haven Front storage is set to open on January 26 with free bike parking for up to 24 hours, and inexpensive long-term options available as well. It also comes with easy access to the Central Station for those who need to commute (通勤) by bus or train, plus easy on-foot access to work in the busy part of the city. “It’s great that people can jump on their bikes, get to the station and continue their journey seamlessly.” Jeroen Wienen, a spokesperson for ProRail, said of the project in an interview. “The Netherlands is a real cycling country. A lot of people come to the station by bike, and we don’t want all those bikes lying around.” This new underwater station took several years and more than 60 million Euros to build. The shelters will be the largest in the city, with the Open Haven Front storage able to take 7,000 bicycles. To build the station, a lakehad to be emptied to make room for the underwater storage facility, but when you live in a country where there are more bikes than people, finding a place to store them all is pretty important. In fact, another facility for an extra 4,000 bikes — cheaper at only 25 million Euros to build — also recently opened in Amsterdam. In recent years, the city invested (投资) 85 million Euros in bike parking alone! And perhaps more important than simply adding bike storage was the idea of closing the gap between cycling and train travel. Making the two run smoothly together allows more people to cycle to the train station, rather than driving to work. 12. What worries the Amsterdam government according to paragraph 1? A. Road safety. B. Heavy traffic. C. Car pollution. D. Bike parking. 13. What can be learned about the Open Haven Front storage? A. It is above a river. B. It is really affordable. C. It is the largest worldwide. D. It provides cheap bikes to ride. 14. What docs the underlined word “seamlessly” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Slowly. B. Smoothly. C. Aimlessly. D. Awkwardly. 15. What does the author want to show by using the numbers in paragraph 4? A. The government’s huge contribution to the project. B. The challenge of building the station. C. The function of the station project. D. The role of bikes in Amsterdam. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选 项。 Community spirit is a powerful thing. Arjun came from a family of farmers who worked day and night to make ends meet. Despite their poor circumstances, Arjun had a fire withinhim that burned brightly with dreams of a better life. From a young age, Arjun displayed a natural curiosity for knowledge. He was a dreamer, and his dreams were vast and limitless. However, education was something that seemed out of reach for Arjun. His village lacked proper schools, and his family could barely afford to feed themselves, let alone pay for his education. But Arjun’s spirit remained unbroken. He knew that education held the key to unlocking his dreams, and he was determined to find a way. With the support and encouragement of his parents, Arjun started a challenging journey. He walked for miles each day to reach a school in a neighboring village. There, he would sit on the ground, carefully absorbing every bit of knowledge that came his way. Arjun’s hunger for education caught the attention of the teachers. They recognized his potential and did everything in their power to support him. Arjun excelled in his studies, doing better than even the richest students. As he advanced in his education, Arjun faced new challenges. The lack of resources and opportunities in his village limited his growth. But he refused to let such things define his future. Arjun’s determination paid off. He secured a scholarship to a famous school in a nearby town. Leaving behind his family and his familiar home, he welcomed this new chapter in his life with gratefulness and a burning desire to succeed. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me and I hope you can support my decision. Your friendship means a lot to me, and it is with a heavy heart that I share this news. However, I do hope that we can resume our plan in the future. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
