Biodiversity, the foundation of ecosystems and human societies, is crucial to maintaining essential ecological
processes. However, it is declining globally, with Asia — a region rich in biodiversity — facing significant threats
from human activities and climate change. These challenges are damaging ecosystems across the region, from
mangroves (红树林) in the Sundarbans to Japan’s northern islands.
Deforestation and Land Use Change
Deforestation and changes in land use are major threats to biodiversity. Increasing population pressures and
agricultural expansion lead to the change of forests into farmland, urban areas, and industrial zones. Southeast Asia,
particularly countries like Indonesia and Myanmar, experiences some of the world’s highest deforestation rates as
forests are cleared for palm oil plantations or infrastructure (基础设施) projects. This loss and breaking up of
habitats endanger species by affecting their ability to feed and reproduce.
Pollution and Overuse
Pollution and the overuse of resources also degrade ecosystems. Industrial activities, such as Bangladesh’s
textile industry, release untreated wastewater into rivers, destroying aquatic habitats and harming downstreamcommunities. Overfishing and illegal wildlife trade further endanger species, leading to ecosystem imbalances.
Climate Change and Extreme Weather
Climate change worsens these problems by increasing the frequency of cyclones, floods, and droughts.
Seaside habitats like the Bay of Bengal’s mangrove forests face severe problems due to rising sea levels, which
cause saltwater spread and threaten both biodiversity and livelihoods. The IPCC warns that extreme weather is
likely to increase in South and Southeast Asia.
Invasive Species and Disease
Invasive alien species pose another serious risk. For instance, the apple snail, introduced to Southeast Asia
from South America, now affects 1.4 million hectares of rice fields in the Philippines, reducing crop yields and
threatening native species.
Addressing these interconnected challenges requires coordinated global efforts, sustainable practices, and
policies to protect Asia’s rich biodiversity for future generations.
1. What harm has Bangladesh’s textile industry caused to biodiversity?
A. Expansion of rice fields.
B. Overfishing in seaside waters.
C. River pollution from untreated wastewater.
D. Clearing mangroves for urban development.
2. Which region is significantly affected by extreme weather and sea-level rise?
A. The Sundarbans.
B. The Bay of Bengal.
C. Japan's northern islands.
D. Southeast Asian rainforests.
3. What can be inferred as key contributing factors to biodiversity loss in Asia?
A. Lack of environmental protection policies.
B. Growing population and human production activities.
C. Habitat loss and invasive alien species.
D. Frequent extreme weather and rising sea levels.

When I first sat down to write my will (遗嘱), I expected it to be a simple act of paperwork, a practical task
that adults are supposed to complete. Instead, it pulled me into an unexpected spiral of reflection. What do I truly
want to leave behind? What traces of my life will matter when I am no longer here?
The questions felt heavy, but they carried a hidden gift. Writing about my possessions made me think not of
objects, but of people—my children, my partner, my friends. Suddenly, I saw how every choice I make is connected
to love. The books on my shelves, the photographs on the wall, even the recipes in my kitchen are not just things;
they are extensions of care, memory, and joy.
In the middle of this process, I recognized that a will is less about death than about life. It is about pausing
long enough to notice what I value most. The act of writing forced me to define the essence of what I hope my
family remembers: not money or furniture, but kindness, curiosity, and the laughter we shared.I felt lighter after finishing the document. Instead of fear, I carried gratitude. I saw my life not as incomplete
but as perpetual, filled with small opportunities to live with intention. If facing death teaches anything, it is that
the present moment is our most generous gift. Every day, I can choose to pass on patience, love, and courage.
What began as a legal form turned into a reminder: life is fragile, but it is also abundant. And if I am mindful,
then even in the ordinary rhythm of my days, I am already leaving behind what matters most.
4. What realization did the author have while writing her will?
A. Writing a will was easier than she had expected.
B. She owned more valuable property than she thought.
C. Objects in her life were deeply tied to people and memories.
D. Her family members were not interested in material possessions.
5. What can be inferred about the author’s attitude toward death?
A. She avoided thinking about it. B. She feared it even more than before.
C. She decided never to discuss it again. D. She became calmer and more grateful.
6. What does the underlined word “perpetual” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Aging B. Dying C. Lasting D. Confusing
7. Which proverb best expresses the main idea of the passage?
A. Actions speak louder than words.
B. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.
C. You can’t take it with you when you go.
D. Love and the present matter most.
C 5. D 6. C 7. D

C
According to research, a significant number of individuals remain reluctant to engage in enjoyable public
activities alone, particularly within cultures emphasizing collective (集体的) value — certain East Asian societies.
This was the initial assumption held by my research team. We conducted a study by photographing diners, both
solo (单独) and accompanied, and presenting these images to participants for evaluation. Fully anticipating that
solo diners would be judged critically, I was surprised when the results contradicted this expectation.
In recent years, a noticeable rise has occurred in solo activities, including dining and traveling individually.
Rather than remaining at home or going out but feeling uncomfortable about how others might see them, a growing
number of people are choosing to participate independently in such activities and even take pride in doing so. On
Instagram, approximately 10 million posts are titled solo travel. The expanding visibility of this trend across
diverse cultures indicates that overcoming the fear of being judged enables individuals to cultivate greater self-
confidence and experience substantial personal growth.
Those who identify as “single at heart” — myself included — genuinely value and appreciate the singlelifestyle. Their increasing presence reflects a gradual change in how society views spending time alone, particularly
within cultural contexts that have traditionally stressed group belonging. They greatly value meaningful
friendships, while gaining satisfaction from time spent alone. Such individuals frequently lead mentally rich lives,
filled with diverse and fascinating experiences. As a writer notes, “When you’re not sitting across from someone,
you’re sitting across from the world.”
While some may regard group activities as demonstrations of friendship, those who take activities alone
convey a more profound statement: “I am content with my own company.” In societies where group belonging has
long been the norm, this quiet confidence represents not only personal strength but also serves as an influential
cultural signal, encouraging a more welcoming mode of life.
8. What specific research method did the team use to test their assumption?
A. Analyzing social media data.
B. Conducting face-to-face interviews.
C. Using photographic evidence for evaluation.
D. Tracking movement patterns in public spaces.
9. Why is Instagram mentioned in paragraph 2?
A. It creates pressure to participate in group activities.
B. It provides evidence of a growing social phenomenon.
C. It promotes expensive travel packages for solo travelers.
D. It discourages people from sharing personal experiences.
10. What can be inferred from paragraph 3 about the cultural contexts that have traditionally stressed group
belonging?
A. They are witnessing a growing acceptance of being alone.
B. They are making a complete break with their collective past.
C. They are experiencing a negative shift toward an individual life.
D. They are forcing individuals to choose between community and living alone.
11. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A. The Changing View of Solo Activities.
B. The Economic Benefits of Solo Travel.
C. The Social Influence of Digital Platforms.
D. The Decreasing Popularity of Group Events.
C 9. B 10. A 11. A

根据第一段“We conducted a study by photographing diners, both solo (单独) and accompanied,
and presenting these images to participants for evaluation.
In recent years, a noticeable rise has occurred in solo activities, including dining and
traveling individually.
approximately 10 million posts are titled solo travel. The expanding visibility of this trend across diverse cultures
indicates that overcoming the fear of being judged enables individuals to cultivate greater self-confidence and
experience substantial personal growth.
Their increasing presence reflects a gradual change in how society views spending time
alone, particularly within cultural contexts that have traditionally stressed group belonging.
故选A。
In societies where group belonging has long been the norm, this quiet confidence
represents not only personal strength but also serves as an influential cultural signal, encouraging a more welcoming
mode of life.
故选A。

A humorous remark at just the right time can go a long way. Benevolent (善意的) humour helps medical
assistants (MAs) cope positively with their stressful working day, according to a new study by the Martin Luther
University (MLU) and the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training. The researchers surveyed more
than 600 MAs and found that those who preferred light, well-intended humour were more satisfied with their work
and received more positive feedback. Dark humour, such as sarcasm (嘲讽), was more likely to have
disadvantages.Medical assistants mostly work in primary health care, especially medical practices. In Germany, becoming an
MA requires three years of vocational training. Their daily routine is highly demanding: they handle administrative
tasks, take blood samples, and apply wound dressings. “Medical assistants are in very close contact with patients
most of the day. They have significant responsibility and experience high stress,” says Julia Raceke, a doctoral
researcher at MLU. While humour has long been known to help healthcare workers manage stress, less is
understood about the impacts of different humour styles.
The researchers conducted an online survey of over 600 MAs to better understand the relationship between job
satisfaction and humour styles. Participants shared their humour preferences and provided information on their
workplace well-being and perceived competence.
Results indicated that those who preferred positive, benevolent humour were generally more satisfied with
their jobs. These MAs also reported receiving more positive feedback and feeling that they made a greater
difference at work. Surprisingly, not all forms of dark humour connected negatively with well-being—satire and
irony showed no negative effects. However, cynicism and sarcasm were mostly harmful. Still, the researchers noted
that occasional sarcasm among colleagues might help release frustration.
According to the researchers, humour is one of several factors influencing workplace well-being. Using
humour consciously and appropriately can make patient interactions more pleasant. The findings may also help
develop new training programs to enhance MAs’ social and emotional skills through online tools.
12. What is the main finding of the study conducted by MLU?
A. Benevolent humour contributes to MAs’ job satisfaction.
B. Sarcasm is the most effective humour style in healthcare.
C. Humour has no significant effect on workplace well-being.
D. Medical assistants prefer dark humour to benevolent humour.
.
13 What is the purpose of the second paragraph?
A. To present the research findings of the study.
B. To argue for better working conditions for MAs.
C. To compare different humour styles used in healthcare.
D. To provide background information about medical assistants.
14. What can we infer about dark humour from the researchers’ analysis?
A. It is completely useless for MAs.
B. Its effects vary by specific type.
C. It is widely accepted by patients.
D. It is more effective than positive humour.15. What is the research team’s attitude towards the use of humour?
A. They are indifferent as its effects are too small to measure.
B. They see it as a valuable tool that requires careful application.
C. They believe all humour styles should be encouraged equally.
D. They are cautious and think it should be avoided in medical settings.
A 13. D 14. B 15. B

Offering advice isn’t easy. You may feel pressured, especially if you’ve accidentally given unhelpful advice
before. But these tips will help you become skilled at it soon!
Take time to think about the issue if you can. Spend a day or a few hours exploring its possible solutions. You
may even ask someone more knowledgeable for advice. However, most people need immediate help when they ask
for advice. ___16___
Talk them through the difficulties. Talk about the hard parts of their situation and why they’re problematic.
___17___ Something they see as an impassable barrier might be easy to overcome with an outside perspective. For
example: “You want to join the school play but worry it’s too hard. What’s stopping you? Memorizing lines? Fear
of performing in front of others?”
Help them evaluate the problem from an outside angle. People often miss the whole situation or solutions
because they focus on small problems. ___18___ From your perspective, point out details they’ve missed. If a
friend worries a handmade party gift isn’t “fancy enough,” note unique items get more compliments than expensive
ones.
___19___ Guide them through their options, then suggest new ones. Don’t let them reject options quickly—
weigh all fairly. If they dismiss an option, find the real reason; they may object based on wrong ideas. For example:
“You want better grades but worry about time. Try a study schedule, ask teachers for help, or join a study group?”
Share any information you have. After discussing options, share your experience or what to expect. This helps
them clarify feelings about options. ___20___ Remember to avoid bias and judgment in your words.
Also, know when to be firm or kind—most need encouragement, but sometimes honesty is key. Finally, stress
you can’t control the future: you can’t guarantee results, but you’ll support them.
A. Open them up to all their options.
B. Help them step back by looking at the big picture.
C. List each option and then compare its good and bad points.
D. This helps them break down big problems into small steps.
E. It will also help them feel more confident about their final choice.
F. So you must ask other experts for more detailed suggestions right away.G. So you might have to respond to the best of your ability and follow up later.
G 17. D 18. B 19. A 20. E

Dear Editor,
I’m Li Hua, a senior two student. I’m writing to voice my view that technology remarkably enhances the
quality of life, as it brings tangible convenience to our daily routines.
Firstly, it bridges geographical gaps. Video calls via apps like WeChat enable us to stay connected with
relatives abroad, fostering emotional bonds that distance might weaken. Secondly, smart home devices such as
intelligent thermostats (恒温器) and automatic vacuum cleaners (吸尘器) minimize trivial housework, freeing us to
allocate more time to study or hobbies.
In conclusion, technology acts as a vital catalyst for a better life. I anticipate that more students will utilize it
wisely to boost efficiency and enrich our daily experiences, making life more fulfilling.(118w)
Yours sincerely,

Dear Editor,
I’m Li Hua, a Grade 11 student. I’m writing to voice my view that technology, instead of relieving life
pressures, actually worsens life anxiety.
To start with, the information overload driven by technology plunges people into a sea of messages. We feel
compelled to check phones nonstop, fearing to miss key updates, which severely disrupts our concentration and
sparks restlessness. Worse still, social media platforms fuel unhealthy comparisons. Others’ “idealized lives”
displayed online often make us feel inadequate, gradually impairing our self-esteem and worsening self-doubt.
In conclusion, the anxiety-triggering impacts of technology are evident. I sincerely hope we can adopt a
moderate attitude towards technology, focusing more on real-life joys rather than being trapped in digital stress.

Yours sincerelyLi Hua

Josh and his mom were on a road trip. There was a sudden shake as the van (面包车) hit a deep hole in the dirt
road. “Oof!” Josh said. “Five minutes.” Josh’s mom smiled. “It’ll be worth the rough ride to swim in a cenote (天然
Josh nodded.
The Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico was the best vacation place ever. But right now, Josh felt left out. He
couldn’t understand what the other tourists in the van, two families from Mexico City, were saying.
“El serpiente grande!” a boy Josh’s age shouted. The boy’s brother and dad looked out the window. Another
young boy, sitting with his parents and grandparents, chatted excitedly in Spanish. Josh shrugged at his mom.
“‘Grande’ means ‘big’, but I’m not sure I know what ‘serpiente’ means,” she said.
Josh peered out the window too. Maybe ‘serpiente’ meant “snake”. He’d done a research report on snakes and
knew there were some big ones in Mexico. Seeing a snake in its native habitat would be cool.
Soon they arrived. The cenote looked like a large pond with a sharp rock face surrounding half of it. A jungleenveloped the rest. Josh dipped a toe in. It felt like the springtime lake water back home in Wisconsin. Josh and his
mom slowly got into the clear water. Fish of varying sizes swam lazily among the rocks, their fins (鰭) barely
moving.
After a little while, Josh heard a splash. The boys from the van were jumping into an open area roped off by
floating objects. “Looks fun,” Josh’s mom said, “Why don’t you join them?” “But I don’t speak Spanish,” said
Josh. “I don’t think you need to,” his mom said. “Maybe not.” Josh moved toward the edge and stepped out.
The sun was soon cooking his back, so Josh sat on a bench in the shade while trying to get up the courage to
join the boys. Away from the water, it was quiet. Then Josh heard a rustling (沙沙声) in the brush.

His heart beat faster. Josh inched closer to the brush, driven by a mix of excitement and nervousness. Then he
saw it — a beautiful snake, about four feet long, with clear patterns of brown and tan, moving slowly into a patch of
sun just several yards away. Its head was narrow and egg-shaped, not flat and triangular. From his research report,
Josh remembered that this shape usually meant it wasn’t poisonous. A wave of relief mixed with caution washed over
him. Even though it seemed safe, he knew it was important not to get too close. After watching quietly for a few more
seconds, he carefully got up, took several steps backward, then turned and ran toward the others, shouting, “Snake!”(116 words)
Looking excited, the other boys climbed out of the water and raced toward Josh. Seeing Josh’s fixed gaze and
tense posture, they followed his line of sight. To communicate the danger without words, Josh slowly raised his arm,
weaving it through the air in a silent, sinuous imitation of the snake’s movement. The boy who had shouted in the
van gasped, his eyes lighting up with understanding. “Serpiente!” he exclaimed, and the others nodded vigorously,
repeating the word. In that moment, Josh understood. Serpiente meant snake. His mom was right—he didn’t need to
speak Spanish to connect. With the mystery solved and the snake calmly observed from afar, the boy grinned and
jerked his head toward the water. Josh smiled back, and together they all ran, laughing, back to the cool embrace of
the cenote. (121 words)
①靠近:inch closer/creep forward
②回忆:remember/recall
③后退:step back/retreat
④站起身:get up/rise to one’s feet
①紧张:nervousness/tension
②释然:relief/ease
③兴奋:excitement/thrill
1】Josh inched closer to the brush, driven by a mix of excitement and nervousness.
2】The boy who had shouted in the van gasped, his eyes lighting up with understanding.
