Despite knowing how it makes you feel, you just can't seem to stop yourself from consuming this harmful information. ②_____ Media psychologist Pamela Rutledge explains, "Our brains are designed to scan the surrounding for potential threats. Since threats are more important to our survival than other information, we pay more attention to the negative information than to the positive." Scanning for danger and making sure we're all OK is a normal and healthy response to stress. ③_____ Larry Rosen, co-author of The Distracted Mind: Ancient Brains in a High-Tech World, explains it thisway, "The problem is that tech companies have set up a system where you feel that you can't stop: endless scrolling, auto-play, and other tricks keep you glued to the screen." ④_____ A lot of what you're seeing is just more of the same. Once you limit the number of websites you visit, you'll thus limit the amount of negative news that reaches you. Moreover, you'll need to start monitoring the emotional(情感上的) impact that information is having. ⑤_____ A.Many of us are familiar with this routine. B.Nobody actually knows why this is happening to us. C.Get information from different news websites to stay informed. D.But doom-scrolling seems unlikely to be prevented or avoided. E.To end the cycle of doom-scrolling, avoid viewing too many news websites. F.If it's feeding your anxiety and causing panic, you need to cut that website off.
