2．We review what is known about summer loss(what引导的宾语从句，作动词review的宾
语) and offer suggestions for schools looking to solve the problem.

school-year learning over the summer.
4．Schools want to address(熟词生义：解决) the issue of summer learning loss not only
because it may widen achievement gaps ， but also because it“wastes”so much of the
knowledge students have gained during the school year.
not only...but also...不仅……而且……，连接两个平行结构，当连接两个名词作主语时，谓语
动词要与but also 后的名词保持人称和数的一致就近原则；而且not only位于句首时，
not only后面的句子要用部分倒装，but also后面的句子不倒装。

options for students over the summer so that summer learning programs do not feel like punishment
