Unit 4 Exploring poetry
1.One reason to write a poem(动词不定式短语作后置定语,修饰名词reason) is to dig(vt.发
掘) from yourself some thought,feeling,comprehension or question that was in you,or in the
world.
动词不定式作定语用来修饰的词一般是抽象名词,常见的还有 chance,ambition,offer,
anxiety,attempt,belief等。
2.You can’t write an image,a metaphor,a story,a phrase without(双重否定表肯定)
approaching the shared world,without recognizing that your supposed solitude is at every point
touching some others.
双重否定句式,表示肯定意义。,Not a student has access to the library without showing his
student card.
3.That the rearrangement(re-[前缀]重新;再一次) of words can reopen the potential of both
inner and outer worlds(内心和外部的世界)—I cannot say why I feel this to be true,except(除
了……;只有……) that I feel it so when I read good poems.

5.What is perhaps less obvious(what 引导的主语从句) is one answer to the problem:the
healing power of poetry to make us feel more connected to others.
