Good evening and welcome to the evening weather report. I’m Jack White. Well, we’ll have quite mixed weather
across our country tomorrow. Different parts of the country will experience quite different weather conditions.
A cold front (冷锋) is moving towards the north of the country. It may cause snowfall in that area tomorrow.
In the evening, the wind might get stronger. There’s a strong chance that the snow will continue for a few days, so
it’s time to get out your thick coats and gloves!
Another cold front is moving south-west across the country. It should arrive on the west coast during the day
tomorrow. If this happens, we might see some cold winds and rain reaching the western and southern parts late
tomorrow afternoon. The rain may last till Sunday.
On the east coast, we could see a slight rise in temperature tomorrow, from today’s high of 16℃ to as high as
18℃. But don’t get too excited! I’m afraid the mild weather won’t last very long. The cold weather may get to the
east part on Sunday or next Monday.
Well, that’s all from me. I’ll see you at the same time tomorrow evening. Have a pleasant evening from all of us
here!
29. What time is Jack White probably speaking?
A. 7:00 a.m. B. 12:00 a.m. C. 4:00 p.m. D. 8:00 p.m.
30. Which part of the country may be snowy tomorrow?
A. Northern. B. Western. C. Southern. D. Eastern.
31. How may the underlined words “mild weather” in Paragraph 4 make people feel?
A. Terrible. B. Comfortable. C. Sleepy. D. Cold.
32. What does Jack White do?
A. A guide. B. An actor. C. A host. D. A volunteer.
【答案】29. D 30. A 31. B 32. C【解析】

东海岸,温度从当日的最高16℃升高到了18℃,这属于不冷不热,所以被称为温和的天气;而主播说

On a Monday morning in Amsterdam, the work day began as usual for Jim. When finishing his coffee, Jim
checked text messages on his phone. Then, he got his bag and went to the nearest railway station. He wasn’t there to
take the train, though. Instead, Jim chose one of the public bicycles lined up outside the station. After unlocking a
bike with a smart card, he set out for his job on the other side of the city. He joined other cyclists in the bike lanes (道),
safely separated from car traffic.
Amsterdam wasn’t always bicycle friendly. In fact, cycling used to be dangerous, especially during the second
half of the twentieth century. This was a time of rapid growth in Amsterdam. As people got richer, they were able to
afford expensive goods such as cars. For the first time, driving became popular. Highways were built for cars. This
meant there was less space for cyclists. Having had a long tradition of cycling, this was a big change for the city. Ascar traffic increased, so did the number of biking accidents. Many of the cyclists were children.
People in Amsterdam were angry. They organized protests (抗议) in the city streets. Government officers
listened. Hoping to solve the problem quickly, they started to think of ways to make the city safe for cyclists again.
Soon there were separate bike lanes, and some areas were closed to cars forever. The changes were so effective (有
效的) that today Amsterdam is a model of biking safety for other cities around the world.
33. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By comparing two places. B. By describing a scene.
C. By answering a question. D. By listing a number.
34. Why did Jim go to the nearest railway station on work day morning?
A. To work there. B. To take the train. C. To see a friend. D. To ride a bike.
35. What does the passage tell about Amsterdam?
A. It has no highways for cars. B. It is always bicycle friendly.
C. It seldom sees changes. D. It is famous for biking safety.
36. What type of book is the passage probably taken from?
A. Science fiction. B. Romantic novel. C. City culture. D. Detective story.
【答案】33. B 34. D 35. D 36. C

Hi, I’m Chief Editor (主编) of Youth Geographic. Have you noticed the sentence on the
cover of our magazine saying “The best magazine for curious kids”? Curiosity is one of the best
qualities you can have, in my opinion. Here in the office we are always looking for things that
make us say “I wonder…” I wonder how, what, why, who and if. When you look at something
closely, you often discover amazing stories. On Page 10, researchers wonder why ants don’t have
traffic jams. On Page 15, you’ll find stories about why giraffes have long necks. Scientists are
listening to trees in whole new ways. Do you know “Wood Wide Web”? Scientists call this
because it’s a bit like an internet for trees. You will find more on Page 30. Now I would like you
to turn to Page 1. Scientists say it’s better to leave deadwood where it is. Strange? You may
wonder…
What happens when a tree dies and falls in a forest? People often think deadwood is bad
because it attracts insects or animals that hurt living trees. However, recent studies suggest that this
risk is low and that deadwood plays a key role in nature.
Scientists from the Czech Republic and the US said that dead trees provide homes for
fungi (真菌), bacteria (细菌) and insects. As they break down the trees, nutrients (营养物质) are
returned to the soil, which helps new plants grow. During this process, the insects also become
food for other animals like birds and bats. What’s more, deadwood can help fight climate change
by locking some carbon (碳) in the ground for over a century.
However, deadwood is becoming less all over the world now. Many forests have been turned
into tree farms where trees are cut down before they die in a natural way. Some people also move
away deadwood to lower the risk of fires or burn it in factories.
Scientists believe it is better to leave deadwood where it is.

阅读短文,回答短文后的五个问题。
Connected to history
Imagine meeting a craftsman (工匠) in his eighties, who is carving dragons on copper hotpots (铜火锅). You
feel like you’ve traveled back two thousand years. That’s the charm of Shanxi in Sight, a six-episode (集) documentary
that was on show in March 2025 on CCTV-2.
Filmed over six months, the series explores 50 historic places across Datong, Taiyuan, and Yuncheng. It followsnearly 100 local people—from craftsmen to shopkeepers. It shows a slow and thoughtful journey to the viewers.
Instead of filming old buildings as cold and empty places, the team tried to show them through the eyes of local
people. “We didn’t want the buildings to feel like museums,” said director Zhou Lifen. “So we chose people living
in Shanxi—shopkeepers, craftsmen, farmers—whose lives are closely connected to these old buildings. Their warmth
brings history to life.” In the documentary, viewers meet an artist in Datong who is making knife-cut noodles, a
sculptor who has spent thirty years recreating cave figures (人物), and a craftsman who protects swans along the
Yellow River.
“In today’s cultural tourism, documentaries need to do more than just tell—they need to make people think,”
said Zhou Lifen. Shanxi in Sight turns the province’s popularity into lasting cultural pride and excitement for travel.
When a documentary helps understand the past through the warmth of common people, it produces a strong feeling
that’s truly unforgettable. As one viewer wrote online, “This isn’t just a travel show—it’s a chance to feel history in
daily life.”
