Writing1【
2021新课标I&II卷】原题 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
A MOTHER’S DAY SURPRISE
The twins were filled with excitement as they thought of the surprise they were planning for
Mother’s Day. How pleased and proud Mother would be when they brought her breakfast in bed.
They planned to make French toast and chicken porridge. They had watched their mother in the
kitchen. There was nothing to it. Jenna and Jeff knew exactly what to do.
The big day came at last. The alarm rang at 6 a.m. The pair went down the stairs quietly to the
kitchen. They decided to boil the porridge first. They put some rice into a pot of water and left it to
boil while they made the French toast. Jeff broke two eggs into a plate and added in some milk.
Jenna found the bread and put two slices into the egg mixture. Next, Jeff turned on the second stove
burner to heat up the frying pan. Everything was going smoothly until Jeff started frying the bread.
The pan was too hot and the bread turned black within seconds. Jenna threw the burnt piece into the
sink and put in the other slice of bread. This time, she turned down the fire so it cooked nicely.
Then Jeff noticed steam shooting out of the pot and the lid starting to shake. The next minute,
the porridge boiled over and put out the fire. Jenna panicked. Thankfully, Jeff stayed calm and turned
off the gas quickly. But the stove was a mess now. Jenna told Jeff to clean it up so they could
continue to cook the rest of the porridge. But Jeff’s hand touched the hot burner and he gave a cry
of pain. Jenna made him put his hand in cold water. Then she caught the smell of burning. Oh dear!
The piece of bread in the pan had turned black as well.

【答案】
Paragraph 1:
As the twins looked around them in disappointment, their father appeared. Knowing what theywere preparing for, he was greatly surprised. So immediately, he offered to get involved in the kids’
job. Firstly, he put the pot of porridge on a gentle heat, asking Jeff to watch out for it going for
fifteen minutes. And then, he asked Jenna to break another two eggs and mix them with milk. With
all preparations done, they started to fry bread together. In a flash, sweet smell filled the air in the
kitchen. To their delight, the breakfast was a success in the end.
Paragraph 1:
The twins carried the breakfast upstairs and woke their mother up. Eyes opened, the woman

whole story. After learning about what happened, she rose quickly to gaze at the boy’s hand with
moved tears rolling down her cheeks. “Thank you, my honey!” said the mother.

真题 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Pumpkin (南瓜) carving at Halloween is a family tradition. We visit a local farm every October.
In the pumpkin field, I compete with my three brothers and sister to seek out the biggest pumpkin.
My dad has a rule that we have to carry our pumpkins back home, and as the eldest child I have an
advantage-I carried an 85-pounder back last year.
This year, it was hard to tell whether my prize or the one chosen by my 14-year-old brother,
Jason, was the winner. Unfortunately, we forgot to weigh them before taking out their insides, butI was determined to prove my point. All of us were hard at work at the kitchen table, with my mom
filming the annual event. I’m unsure now why I thought forcing my head inside the pumpkin would
settle the matter, but it seemed to make perfect sense at the time.
With the pumpkin resting on the table, hole uppermost, I bent over and pressed my head against
the opening. At first, I got jammed just above my eyes and then, as I went on with my task, unwilling
to quit, my nose briefly prevented entry. Finally I managed to put my whole head into it, like a
cork (软木塞) forced into a bottle. I was able to straighten up with the huge pumpkin resting on my
shoulders.
My excitement was short-lived. The pumpkin was heavy. “I’m going to set it down, now,” I
said, and with Jason helping to support its weight, I bent back over the table to give it somewhere
to rest. It was only when I tried to remove my head that I realized getting out was going to be less
straightforward than getting in. When I pulled hard, my nose got in the way. I got into a panic as I
pressed firmly against the table and moved my head around trying to find the right angle, but it was
no use. “I can’t get it out!” I shouted, my voice sounding unnaturally loud in the enclosed space.

【答案】
Paragraph 1
It was five or six minutes though it felt much longer. Dad was summoned – less, it seemed, in
expectation of practical help than to make sure he didn’t miss out on the spectacle. I heard himpropose calling the fire department. “Stay tuned,” said Mom; she’d mentioned she was going to
upload the video to Facebook, but it was only then I realized she’d been filming the whole time.
The video cuts before my rescue —Dad got me to push my head farther into the pumpkin so Mom
could reach in and undo the rubber band round my ponytail. I emerged with squash-conditioned
hair, a sore chin and my nose plugged with pulp.
Paragraph 2
The video was posted the Monday before Halloween. By the end of that day, it had over 1,000
views. People asked Mom to put it on YouTube, and by Wednesday morning we were getting 5:00
am calls from TV breakfast shows and then the international media – the video started racking up
hundreds of thousands of views. When I went on a youth camp, I was recognized by children I’d
never met. The pumpkin also became a minor celebrity. Passersby and trick-or-treaters would
knock and ask, “Which is Rachel’s pumpkin?” before taking selfies with it.

I knew healing my relationship with Dad was vital, but how to go about it was another story.
At the time the gulf between us seemed insurmountable (无法逾越的). My feelings of being
criticized and rejected by Dad were my deepest wound.
In my early years I was the apple of his eye, and he was a hero in my childhood. We played
sports and games, and often went fishing together.
As adolescence approached, however, everything changed. It became clear that I was
determined to forge my own path, one completely different from his expectation. In school I was
having behavioral problems, being a class joker and breaking all the rules. And having my parents
read my school report was a nightmare for me. Sometimes I was punished. Their disapproval made
me feel even worse. Punishments only added to the hurt.
My dad had no idea how to deal with me. He became silent and distant, setting a wall and
pretending that he didn’t care. That was even more painful to me than my mother’s voiced
disapproval. I hated him for that, and pretended that I didn’t want anything to do with him. We lived
under the same roof, but we were a thousand miles away from each other.
I continued to have trouble with school until the time I chose to drop out and pursue my
interests in music. I became totally focused on my spiritual growth, which sent shivers (寒颤)
through my father’s mind. There were many hard feelings between us, feelings that hardened as
time went by.
For much of my twenties, I went about my life without much of a relationship with my dad.
We had stopped trying to change each other, but the walls remained, thick and cold between us.
Things all began changing four years after mom told me it was time to deal with Dad. Hesitant
for a long time, I finally took her advice and wrote my father a letter.

【答案】One possible version:
After sending the letter, I felt a heavy weight on my mind. Would he receive it? How would he
respond? I waited for his reply, nervously opening up the mail each day. Days later, his response
arrived. I read the letter again and again, disbelief washing over me — it wasn’t the distant, silent
dad I knew but someone wise, tender, approachable. I plucked up my courage and called him. We
both fumbled for words, but couldn’t find any. Finally, a shaky “I love you” passed between us
before we hung up, both overwhelmed by the weight of the moment. His words had stirred a deep
desire for me to see him, to seek for the love that we had lost for so long.
I visited my father soon after receiving his letter. My time with my father was sweet and
meaningful. We sat on the porch, the familiar scent of cut grass and old wood filling the air. The
awkwardness of the past seemed to melt away, replaced by a shared history of laughter, tears, and
the unspoken desire for connection. Though our paths had been apart, they were now coming back
together. It was a conversation filled with a quiet understanding. It was a conversation filled with
shared openness. It was a conversation filled with unexpected warmth. Together, we stepped forward
on a journey towards healing and forgiveness between a father and a son.

Chris used to stay anxious and stressed all the time. He was troubled by the fact that he had
to bear all the expenses of the house and responsibility of the whole family and that relatives kept
visiting his place.
Thinking about all these things, he used to scold (训斥) his children and quarrel with his wife
on one or other issue. Gradually, the atmosphere at home was very tense.
One day when he was angry with himself for the mistake he made at work, his son Dan came
to him and said, “Father, please help me with my homework.” Chris scolded his son and asked him
to walk away. But later when he calmed down, he went to his son’s room and saw that his son was
asleep, holding a copy of his homework in his hands. Chris took the copy and looked at it quickly. He was about to put it back when he read the title of the homework. It was—Things That We
Don’t Like at First but Later Realize That They Are Good.
The child had to write a paragraph on this title. Out of curiosity, Chris started reading what
his kid had written: I am thankful for my final exams because they upset me in the beginning but
after that there are school holidays. I am thankful for medicines that taste bad because they taste
bitter at first but they cure my illness. I am thankful for my alarm clock that annoys me but wakes

【答案】
After reading his son’s homework, Chris was lost in thought. He realized that his son had a
deeper understanding of life than he had expected. The boy saw the good in things that seemed
unpleasant at first, and even found value in his father’s scolding. Chris felt a wave of guilt wash
over him. He had been so focused on his own stress and anxieties that he had neglected to see the
positive impact his tough love was having on his son. He understood now that his scolding, though
harsh, was a way of pushing his son to become better.Realizing all these, he suddenly became relaxed. The tension in his shoulders eased, and a
smile spread across his face. He decided to change his approach to parenting. Instead of scolding
and quarreling, he would try to communicate more effectively with his family, sharing his feelings
and concerns instead of bottling them up. He would also make an effort to appreciate the good in
every situation, just as his son had done. Chris knew that it wouldn’t be easy, but he was ready to
make the effort for the sake of his family’s happiness and harmony. From that day on, Chris made a
conscious effort to be a more understanding and supportive father, and the atmosphere at home
gradually became warmer and more loving.

house. She couldn’t help weeping when she thought of the scolding from her mother. Having
wandered in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat. She stood
beside a stand for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with
no money in hand, she sighed and had to leave.
The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked, “Hey, girl, you want to have the
noodles?”
“Oh, yes... but I don’t have money on me,” she replied.
“That’s nothing. I’ll treat you today,” said the man. “Come in.”
The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, whose smell was so attractive. As she was eating,
Jenny cried silently.
“What is it?” asked the man kindly.
“Nothing, actually I was just touched by your kindness!” said Jenny. “Even a stranger on the
street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother drove me out of the house. She showed no
care for me. She is so merciless compared to a stranger!”
Hearing the words, the seller smiled, “Girl, do you really think so? I only gave you a bowl of
noodles and you thanked me a lot. But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby.
Can you number the times she cooked for you? Have you expressed your gratitude to her?”
Jenny sat there, speechless and numb with shock; she remembered Mother’s familiar face
and weathered hands. “Why did I not think of that? A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel
grateful, but I have never thanked my mum for what she has done for me.”
On the way home, Jenny made up her mind to make an apology to her mother for her rudeness
as soon as she arrived home. As Janice approached the doorway, she took a deep breath.

【答案】Paragraph 1:
When Janice pushed the door open and entered the home, she found her mother was not in.
The house was quiet, with only the soft hum of the refrigerator breaking the silence. Janice felt a
pang of guilt as she looked around the familiar surroundings, remembering the argument they had
earlier. She walked over to the kitchen and saw a note on the table, written in her mother’s neat
handwriting. “Janice, I’m sorry for losing my temper. I’ve gone to the market to buy some fresh
ingredients for dinner. Let’s talk when I get back.” Janice’s heart sank as she read the note, realizing
that her mother had been worried about her and had even apologized first. She felt a wave of gratitude
and love wash over her, and decided to wait for her mother to return, ready to apologize and make
things right.
Paragraph 2:
Her thoughts were brought back by a gentle touch on her hair. Janice turned around to see her
mother standing there, with a look of concern and relief on her face. “Janice, you’re home! I was so
worried about you,” her mother said, hugging her tightly. Janice felt tears welling up in her eyes as
she hugged her mother back. “Mom, I’m sorry for what I said and did. I didn’t mean it. I was just
so upset,” Janice apologized, her voice trembling. Her mother smiled and wiped away a tear from
Janice’s cheek. “It’s okay, sweetie. I’m sorry too. Let’s not argue anymore and enjoy our dinner
together,” she said, holding Janice’s hand and leading her to the dining table. As they sat down to
eat, Janice felt a sense of warmth and peace wash over her, knowing that no matter what happened,
her mother’s love and support would always be there for her.

won first place at the Science Fair, and her drawing won a ribbon at the Northern Shiprock Fair. She
always did everything right! “We’ll just see who wins this time.” Kim thought.
“What does being Navajo mean to me?” Kim wondered as she got off the school bus and saw
her grandmother. She had taught Kim a lot about Navajo. What impressed her most was that theNavajo s are honest. Now she knew what to write. Kim rushed to her room, pulled out her notebook
and began to write.
Kim’s words flooded onto the page. She wrote about helping shear (修剪) the sheep and then
washing the wool. She told about the many winter evenings she’d played string games while
watching Grandma weave. Kim could have written 100 pages! As she closed her notebook, Amanda
peeked into the room. “Finished? Let me read it.” Kim watched nervously as Amanda read.
“Good,” Amanda said, handing the essay back to Kim, then leaving the room. “Good?” Kim
frowned. “What does that mean? Not good enough!” Kim thought. She tore the essay out of her
notebook, crumpled (弄皱) it, and threw it on the floor. Maybe she should make her essay more
exciting. She could write about what a great dancer she was. Or she could tell how she had learned
to speak Navajo when she was just a baby. But those were complete lies! Kim hesitated for a while
and was about to rewrite when grandma’s words flashed across her mind.

Kim reached down and picked up her crumpled essay. Carefully smoothing out the wrinkles,
Kim glued her eyes to the essay, a decision made in her mind. She thought to herself, “We Navajos
are always honest.” With new found resolve, Kim, picking up her pen determinedly, recopied the
essay neatly onto a new sheet of paper. Early Monday morning, Kim handed it in. Then it was just
a matter of waiting. As the week progressed, Kim could hardly focus on her schoolwork, feeling as
if she might explode.
On Friday afternoon, Kim waited for the announcement in the school hall, holding her
breath. “The winner of the essay contest is ... Kim, Kim Longfellow!” Kim’s heart skipped a beat.
A surge of joy and pride swept over her, washing away all her self-doubt. Kim turned around and
saw Amanda clapping enthusiastically, who seemed to be truly pleased for her. Feeling silly for
being jealous, Kim gave “Miss Perfect” a big hug. She felt lucky to have stayed true to herself,
which was the true meaning of being Navajo.
