Caring 17-year-old Lauren Schroeder was inspired to help bring healthy food to needy
families in her community. Volunteering at a food shelter when she was 14, and tasked with
helping fill boxes for households in need with canned and packaged food, this Iowa teen felt that
something was missing from the donated groceries: fresh vegetables. So she shared with her parents
her desire to start a garden on part of their family farm in Dixon, Iowa, to supply local families
in need with fresh produce.
Coming from a farming family, Lauren had some familiarity with agriculture, and had helped
raise rabbits and lambs, but had never tried vegetable cultivation at scale, though the Schroeders
plant soybeans and corn each year on their 150-acre farm.
’
The work involved in realizing Lauren s plan was no walk in the park. Initially, while proud
’
of her daughter s vision, her mother, Katie Schroeder, admitted having some concern about the
“ ‘ ’ ’
work involved: I was wondering, Oh my gosh, how much work is this going to be? I wasn t
”
sure whether this would work.

3 8This was one young change-maker, however! Lauren researched plants online, checking which
species needed more shade, how much water was required, and when to harvest each crop. During
’
Iowa s hot summers, she had to water her crops by hand for around 2 to 3 hours daily. She also
checked daily for weeds, and bent down to pick her green bean crop. Thanks to her diligence,
Lauren planted half an acre of land, with 15 varieties of vegetables in 2022, harvesting and
weighing her first crops, with a first batch of 18 kilograms.
“ ’
In an interview with a local media channel, Lauren says, I wanted to have something that d
impact people. I want to impact community members. Many people help you out, but it makes
’ ”
more difference when you help others out. That s what makes me most happy.

D. Because of her experience of raising rabbits and lambs on the farm.
25. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?

Have you done the MBTI personality test? Yes, I m an INTJ, responded Gu Ailing in a
’ ’
recent interview with magazine. Gu s response became a hot topic online and drew people s
attention to the test.
’
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a test designed to identify a person s personality
外 向
type. The test result is based on four sets of opposing qualities: Extroversion ( ) vs
直觉 感知
Introversion, Sensing vs Intuition ( ), Thinking vs Feeling, and Judging vs Perceiving ( ).
After answering more than 90 questions, test -takers get their four -letter personality result,
’
including a detailed description. Gu Ailing s result of INTJ is one of the 16 possible personality
types the test reveals.
Developed by Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers in the US in the
1940s, the test grew to become the standard for personality tests. Many companies and
organizations use it when hiring or evaluating staff to help them select people for certain roles.
And now in China, Internet users are using it as a tool to guide their lives and relationships.
’
But how reliable is this test? Well, it isn t recognized as being , according
to . The test was based on the theories of Swiss psychologist Carl Jung. Even Jung
“ ”
warned that his personality types were just rough classifications that he observed. In addition,
neither of the test designers was a trained psychologist.
英语试题卷 第 页(共 页)
4 8“
reveals the key problem with the MBTI is that the test is too black and
”
white . The results place people into only one of each of the four categories; for example, someone
is either an introvert or an extrovert. But many people would surely sit somewhere in the middle
of these two. Being categorized like this prevents people from appreciating their complexities and
deeper selves.
Tests and tools that help people better understand who they are and how they think are very
powerful and can still help in some aspects of life. As science and technology develop, people can
look forward to more accurate tests that truly embrace how wonderfully complex and ever-changing
humans really are.
28. What can we learn about the MBTI test from the text?
A. It was created by a famous Swiss psychologist.
B. It divides personalities into 16 types based on four trait pairs.
C. It has been used in China longer than in Western countries.
D. It mainly focuses on predicting future career success.
29. Why do many companies use the MBTI test when they hire new employees?
A. To reduce the cost of hiring new employees.
’
B. To assess candidates professional skills directly.
C. To match individuals with appropriate job positions.
D. To follow the latest trends in global recruitment.
“ ”
30. What does the underlined mean in paragraph 4?
A. widely discussed B. scientifically supported
C. scientifically understood D. widely acknowledged
31. What is the main purpose of the article?
A. To encourage readers to take the MBTI test immediately.
B. To explain the development of the MBTI test and its limitations.
C. To prove that all personality tests are useless and unreliable.
D. To compare the MBTI test with other psychological tools.
The preservation of the Arctic is necessary for the well-being of people on a global scale.
Unfortunately, the Arctic currently faces many interconnected issues, two of which are climate
change and changes in biological diversity.
The World Wildlife Foundation (WWF) said that the Arctic is heating up at a rate of almost
twice the global average. Greenhouse gas emissions, such as carbon dioxide, methane and water
vapor, are likely to blame.
Rising temperatures and the reduction of sea ice pose the most significant danger to Arctic
wildlife. Walruses and polar bears rely on sea ice to rest, hunt, breed and migrate. Without it,
’
they re threatened with starvation and declining birth rates, according to the Environmental
Protection Agency. Warming temperatures also threaten animals such as reindeer and the migration
patterns of fish.
New species are moving in from the south to take advantage of these rising temperatures. The
warming Arctic tundra is bringing in new competitors such as the red fox, which is threatening the
native Arctic fox. Red foxes take over Arctic fox dens and kill them, according to the WWF.
Scientists have also said that the killer whale population is increasing, which may lead to a
decrease in the native narwhal population.
Although it remains important for the international community to help the Arctic Circle, Arctic
countries must also play an active role. In the US state of Alaska, an engineer named Dr Leslie
Field and her research team at a nonprofit called Ice 911 (now Arctic Ice Project) have been
“ 反射效应 ”
testing a solution to melting sea ice. To increase the albedo effect ( ) , she has been

experimenting with spreading silica microbeads ( ), which are environmentally friendly,
across the sea ice, according to online magazine . So far, each application of the beads has
— ’
made the ice thicker and more reflective a promising potential answer to the Arctic s sea ice
melt.
The WWF recommends a global transition to 100 percent renewable energy through clean
energy sources such as wind, geothermal or solar. Also, instead of supporting oil and gas, Arctic
governments need to finance renewable energy. Protecting the Arctic is the key to protecting the
future. The time to act is now.
’
32. What mainly contributes to the Arctic s rapid warming according to the text?
A. The migration of new species. B. The decline of sea ice.
C. The quickly rising temperatures. D. The greenhouse gas emissions.
33. Which may become strong competitors in the Arctic region now?
A. Walruses. B. Reindeer. C. Red foxes. D. Narwhals.
34. How does the author develop paragraph 5?
A. By giving an example. B. By listing numbers.
C. By making a comparison. D. By giving a definition.
35. What is the main idea of this passage?
A. The Arctic ecosystem is facing various threats.
B. Different countries should work together to protect the Arctic.
C. There are some proposed solutions to protecting the Arctic from melting.
D. The WWF has made many recommendations for Arctic protection.

Choking occurs when food or an object blocks the airway. A choking person cannot speak,
cough effectively, or breathe, and may grab their throat. Without immediate help, choking can lead
to serious harm or death. 36
If you see someone choking, stay calm and call emergency services right away. You should
also call for emergency help while checking the person. Ask others nearby to help call for
professionals while you check the situation. A choking person often cannot cough strongly, may
turn blue, or show signs of struggling. 37 If they can still cough hard or talk, encourage
them to continue trying to clear the blockage. But if they cannot cough or breathe well, act fast.
For a conscious adult or older child, the Heimlich maneuver is usually the best method.
38 Stand behind the person, wrap your arms around their waist, and make a fist with one
hand. Place the thumb side just above the belly button and below the breastbone. Grasp your fist
with the other hand and give quick upward and inward thrusts. Repeat until the object is expelled
or breathing returns.
Be gentle but firm during the process. 39 If the person becomes unconscious, lay them
down carefully, call emergency services again if needed, and start CPR if trained.
40 Lay the baby face down on your forearm, support the head and neck, and give up
肩胛骨
to five firm back blows between the shoulder blades ( ). If necessary, turn the baby over
冲击按压
and give up to five chest thrusts ( / ) with two or three fingers. Keep switching until the
object is cleared or help arrives.
Learning these skills can save lives. Being prepared makes a huge difference in emergencies.
A. Therefore, learning first aid is vital.
B. For young teenagers, a different set of steps is required.

C. This helps prevent damage to the ribs ( ) or breastbones.
D. It is important to act quickly and correctly in such situations.
,
E. However the above steps are not suitable for babies under one year old.
F. If the person can still cough or speak, let them try to clear the blockage.

Last weekend, my parents and I planned a picnic around a peaceful lake deep in the forest
—
after a busy week. The place was famous for its beautiful scenery tall trees, clear water and
fresh air brought us great joy. Near the lake stood a small wooden house, where Jack and his
father lived together, on the calm lake a small boat floating by the shore. Little did we know our
trip was going to have some surprises.
As we parked our car and gathered our picnic supplies, Jack came over with a warm smile,
“ ’ ”
the first meet, though. Beautiful day for a picnic, isn t it? he said, pointing to the cloudless
“
sky. But the weather here can change quickly. If you ever need help, my house is just across
’ ”
the lake. I m familiar with every path. We thanked him and set foot on the scenic path.
We walked slowly along the path, chatting and enjoying the peaceful moment far away from
the busy city. Thick trees lined one side of the road, while a gentle stream flowed on the other,
guiding us to an impressive grassland dotted with bright wildflowers. There, we enjoyed our tasty
hamburgers, fresh fruit and treats. We were so absorbed in our delightful conversation that we
failed to notice some change in the sky. In the beginning, a few dark clouds gathered in the
distance, but in the blink of an eye they covered the whole sky. A gentle wind turned into a
strong one, warning us of a coming storm.
No sooner had we taken shelter than the heaven opened, and downpour began, turning the
(油画)
world outside into a blurry, watery canvas . With no other options, we waited out the storm.
To make matters worse, the stream had grown into a huge, rushing flood, blocking our way. With
no cell phone signal, we were cut off from the outside world. Adding to our dilemma, night was
fast approaching, casting a shadow over our situation. Desperation filled our hearts and we had no
idea how to get out of danger.
