Although he died almost 40 years ago, Bruce Lee is still considered the greatest and most influential kung fu
performer of the 20th century. His films brought traditional Hong Kong kung fu movies to a new level of
popularity, and introduced kung fu to millions of people in the West.
Born in the USA in 1940, Lee returned to his native Hong Kong before his birthday. As a teenager, the highly
intelligent boy was accepted into one of Hong Kong's most famous middle schools but he paid little attention to his
studies. He was more interested in sport, especially kung fu, and hanging out with his street-gang friends. In 1959,
Lee got into trouble with the police for fighting. His mother, fearing he would end up in prison, sent him to the
USA. Two years later, he began studying at university there.
While still a student, Lee opened his own kung fu school, teaching a new fighting style he had developed.
What made Lee's style different was that it used power, strength and quick-action attacks. It also combined(融
合)Japanese, Korean and South American fighting styles with traditional slow-moving Chinese kung fu.
Among Lee's students were several famous actors who are impressed by his good-looks and fighting skill,
encouraged him to start acting. Over the next five years Lee achieved some success in America. But his dream of
introducing his fighting style into American movies was not accepted by local film makers who thought western
audiences were not interested in kung fu.
Determined to prove them wrong, Lee returned to Hong Kong in 1970. There he made two films Fists of Fury
(1971) and Way of the Dragon (1972), using his kung fu ideas and techniques. The movies were huge hits world-
wide, making Lee an international star and symbol of kung fu. These were followed by what is widely considered
the greatest kung fu movie of all time, Enter the Dragon(1973), Tragically however, Lee suddenly and mysteriously
died while making his next movie Game of Death. He was only 33 years old.
33. As a teenager, Lee was very ______.
A. quiet B. hard-working C. brave D. smart
34. Why was Lee sent to America?
A. His parents wanted him to study at university there.
B. He wanted to develop a new American fighting style.
C. His family feared he was getting into too much trouble in Hong Kong.需要更多资料,请加【微信1】 :educat51 【微信2】 :studying100
D. He was determined to become a successful and popular actor there.
35. What was Lee's dream according to the passage?
A. To develop a new style of kung fu. B. To become a famous movie star.
C. To make movies using his fighting style. D. To teach Americans kung fu.
36. According to the passage, how many kung fu movies did Lee completed in his lifetime?

I am a professor of sports and exercise so I often deal with nervousness in my research with sports people.
Actually, most people experience nervousness at some time or another.
If you are feeling anxious, my advice is to first find the cause or causes. Make a list of those things that are
making you nervous and work out which ones you can do something about. Focus all of your efforts on managing
the causes that you can control.
Most people cannot tell the difference between controllable (可控制的) and uncontrollable causes, so things
they can't control become a big reason for nervousness. Dealing with this is very important if people want to keep a
healthy mind.
Simply try to accept the uncontrollable causes of nervousness. You might be worried about the weather on a
big day, an accident or an attack on the train, or perhaps just things that other people are doing at work. The results
may be very important but there is still no use worrying because you can't control any of these things. Accept that需要更多资料,请加【微信1】 :educat51 【微信2】 :studying100
you can't control everything. Once you understand this, it becomes easier not to worry.
If a situation, such as swimming, is causing you to be anxious, try to face it as often as possibly so that you can
get used to it.
It can often help to think about yourself doing the thing that makes you nervous—then close your eyes and
imagine it going well. Imagine how the flight or job interview is going to happen so that you can get used to it. This
will help you understand that the thing you fear most is probably not going to happen.
37. Who wrote this passage?
A. A reporter. B. A sportsman. C. A patient. D. A professor.
38. The writer thinks there is no use worrying about some causes of nervousness because __________.
A. most are not very important
B. they are not the real causes of the problem
C. they cannot be controlled by people
D. it's better to deal with one cause at a time
39. If swimming makes you nervous, what should you do according to the writer?
A. Go swimming often to get used to it. B. Avoid going to the swimming pool.
C. Find a swimming teacher. D. Imagine watching others swim.
40. What is the main purpose of this passage?
A.To introduce the writer's sports experience. B. To advise on how to deal with nervousness.
C. To help people remember their fears. D. To explain the dangers of nervousness.

How do money problems influence our social life? Do we simply stop going out and enjoying ourselves? And,
if we do stop going out, are there any other ways to party?
Psychologists say that having fun with close friends and family is very important to our mental health. Last
Christmas, Yorkshire Bank, UK did a survey to see how people were planning to celebrate the festive season when
they had not much money to spend. They found that eight out of ten Britons preferred an invitation to a house party
to a night out in a bar or club.
So, the question is, how can we throw a party without spending all our money? Easy just read our “hot tips”:
Hot Tip #1 Careful planning
“It’s all in the planning,” claim party experts. If you plan the number of guests and the menu with prices in
mind, it won’t be expensive. Remember, in this situation, less is more-the fewer guests you invite, the lower your
costs will be. Equally, if you hold the party in your own home, it’ll be even cheaper for everyone. Going to pubs or
clubs will be too expensive. Also, if you buy a few candles and simple decorations, you’ll be able to create a bar
scene in your own front room.
Hot Tip #2 Shop intelligently
One of the biggest costs is the food and drink. If you shop efficiently, you will spend less money on them. In
big supermarkets, you often have “three for the price of two” food offers. You can also pick up alcohol (酒) quite
cheaply if you look for deals. If you host a party, people won’t require a three-course meal-a simple spread of
crisps, olives and dips (调味酱) is enough.
Hot Tip #3 Caring is sharing
Don’t be scared to ask your guests to bring something. If you invite close friends, they’ll be happy to
contribute. For example, you could ask someone to bring some snacks and someone else to bring cups. After all, the
idea is to get your nearest and dearest together in honour of friendship and good times.
So what are you waiting for? Find an excuse to celebrate and start sending out those invitations. But
remember, save yourself some money, get creative and don’t do everything yourself.
33. The survey was done to find out _________.
A. where people could shop efficiently on Christmas
B. what stopped people going out and having fun
C. how people without much money celebrated Christmas
D. why Britons wanted to have a night out in a bar or club
34. Yorkshire Bank surveyed 1,000 people, how many of them preferred a house party?需要更多资料,请加【微信1】 :educat51 【微信2】 :studying100
A. 8 B. 18 C. 80 D. 800
35. According to the hot tips, what should we do for a party with less money?
A. Invite as many friends as you can. B. Ask a friend to bring some snacks.
C. Prepare a three-course meal. D. Find an excuse to ask for help.
36. In which part of a newspaper can we probably find this article?
A. Advice page. B. Shopping tips. C. Mental health. D. Medical care.

“Even though Shenzhen is a big city with a big population…you don’t have to be alone,” Joe Macpherson, an
outdoor lover from Wales, the United Kingdom, said.
Joe came to Shenzhen five years ago. He knew that newcomers in a country might find it hard to get to know
the local life. The newcomers want to meet local friends, and the local people also want to find a way to practice
English. Therefore, Joe creates chances for them both. He introduces different clubs and events to people according
to their interests when people turn to him for help.
What’s more, Joe takes a lead in hiking activities or city walks to bring people together. Different kinds of
people have joined in his activities. Some are the local Chinese. Some are expats (侨民) from different parts of the
world. In the group, the commonest spoken language is English, but people can speak any language. They have fun
in the group. His events are all free and anyone can join in them. The outing usually lasts for two to three hours. In

created to invite outdoor lovers to join in the events he organized. Since Joe and his friends would share useful
information about entertainment, events and news, the group quickly developed as friends would invite other
friends to join. Joe then worked to build Shenzhen Guide into a noncommercial brand where those unfamiliar with
the city could ask questions or find useful information.
“I hope everybody likes Shenzhen as much as I do,” Joe said. The city is full of beauty, but there were no
detailed English introductions to its beauty. This made Joe start writing guides for Shenzhen. He has already
published 115 articles about Shenzhen’s parks, mountains and other beautiful places.
37. Why does Joe introduce different clubs and events to people?
A. To help more Chinese people find their interests.
B. To attract more foreigners to take a trip to Shenzhen.

39. What does the fourth paragraph mainly tell us?
A. How people thought of Shenzhen Guide.
B. How people asked for help from Shenzhen Guide.
C. The creation and development of Shenzhen Guide.
D. The advantages and disadvantages of Shenzhen Guide.
40. What does the passage mainly talk about?

Parrots have been known to mimic(模仿) words, but have you ever thought how they communicate? The
sounds they make may sound meaningless to us,but new research has found that wild parrots are actually given
names by their parents.
According to a study led by Karl Berg of Cornell University in the US, nestlings (雏鸟) are given a unique
sound of their own, which stays with them for their entire lives. In the study, the team placed hidden cameras in the
nests of 17 different wild parrots. After studying their sounds, the team discovered small differences in the calls
parents used to communicate with each chick. And even before the nestlings had learned to communicate properly,
the baby birds seemed to recognize and mimic their calls.
Sounds very similar to humans, doesn't it? The study also proved that these signature calls are acquired(获得)
socially not genetically(基因上地). To do this, scientists exchange the eggs in nine of the 17 nests, so that half of
the parrots were raising nestlings that weren't theirs. Using the recordings, the scientists made a conclusion that the
nestlings all used names similar to those the parents(whether biological or nonbiological) called them for the first
weeks of their lives.需要更多资料,请加【微信1】 :educat51 【微信2】 :studying100
Lucie McNeil, from National Geographic, said, "This would be the first proven example of a non-human
species teaching acoustical(声学的) communication."
Lead scientist for the study, Karl Berg told National Public Radio of the US, "Most people say," Well, all those
calls are just noise, but I think they're having conversations."
Fox News also asked Berg what else the parrots might be saying. He replied, "The theory is that these birds are
deciding where the food is, 'Do we want to go 3 km North-Northwest?'"Do we want to go to that field?' They are
kind of arguing or discussing."
Natural science author, Virginia Morell, wrote: "Very gradually, scientists are learning to decode the
conversations of very different animals that live lives rich with plans, quarrels, and romance."
You never know, if the science of animal translation keeps developing, we might one day be watching a reality
series about parrots.
41. What did the new research find about wild parrots?
A. They can talk by learning from people.
B. The sounds they make are meaningless.
C. They have names given by their parents.
D. They have a unique way of making sounds.
42. What does the study suggest?
A. Different parrots are called differently by their parents.
B. Baby parrots can tell who their biological parents are.
C. Baby parrots can mimic their biological parents' calls better.
D. Parrots are the most skilled animals in acoustical communication.
43. Why did the scientists exchange the eggs in the study?
A. To see whether the parents could recognize their own babies.
B. To see whether the parrots made the same sounds all their lives.
C. To see whether the signature calls were acquired socially or genetically.
D. To see whether biological and nonbiological parents named babies differently.
44. The underlined word “decode” in the passage is closest in meaning to “________”.
A. mimic B. understand C. practice D. create
45. Which one is the correct order?
① Baby parrots learned how to communicate rightly.
② scientists exchanged the eggs in the nests.

When your pen is broken, the battery in your toy runs out, or you have some leftover food. What do you do
with these things? You will probably throw them into one bin.
But actually, all of these pieces of trash need to be sorted (分类) separately.
Garbage sorting is a big issue worldwide. In recent years, some Chinese cities have been working hard on it.
Shanghai has worked with Alipay to create a “green account (账户)” service for its residents. Account holders
get points by correctly sorting their garbage. Through the Alipay app, they can exchange the points for milk, phone
cards and other products. The city is asking all of its residents to sort their garbage into four groups: wet,
recyclable, harmful and dry.
Wet waste is also known as household waste. “They are things you don’t want, but that pigs can eat,”
Guangzhou Daily explained.
Paper, metal (金属), glass and other things that can be reused are recyclable waste.
Harmful waste includes things like medicine, batteries and fluorescent bulbs (荧光灯泡).
Finally, any waste that’s not wet, recyclable or harmful will go in the “dry waste” bin.
Many other Chinese cities are also using this method to sort their garbage. For example, Shenzhen has been
sorting its garbage into the same four groups since 2012. Students there also receive waste-sorting guidebooks that
they must study.
China is improving its waste-sorting efforts. There is still a long way to go. But it’s never too late to learn how

My grandfather was rich but did not have any sense of responsibility. Three out of his four sons including my
father were uneducated and affected by alcoholism. They also had this false sense of pride that created this feeling
of shame in doing small jobs. So by the time I gained conscience, we were shit poor. Getting bread with some
vegetables on the plate, twice a day, was a dream. From early age, I used to work on farms with my mother. After 9,需要更多资料,请加【微信1】 :educat51 【微信2】 :studying100
I started working at a whole lot of places before I entered high school.
I used to get old books from my cousin, Pappu, who was one class ahead of me in school. I was above average
in my class. But all that work for food, bad neighborhood, and lack of resources (time, stationery, school uniform
etc.) affected my education badly. By the time I came in 10th Grade, I got 46% marks in the exams. But my failure
was actually a gift. My friend-circle was gone and everything was meaningless to me. I had that talk with myself
that made me realize that nothing mattered except a good education. One of my uncles guided me in this tough
time.
Poverty made me rock solid. When people are usually scared about something, I drink some tea and carry on.
While so many people around me feel ashamed to talk to rickshaw pullers (黄包车夫),it gives me much pleasure to
talk to them. I speak politely with rickshaw pullers, farmers, waiters and all those people trying to earn a living in
tough economy. I think they are hard-working people. Still, I think carefully about buying costly devices, drinking a
lot, and doing something useless to impress my "friends".
That doesn't mean I am a miser. For me, only few things are worth my hard-earned money. For example, I am
living at a great place for which I pay more than average rent because it's so beautiful and peaceful.

To sum up history in one sentence, it would be "Life gets better — not for everyone all the time, but for most
people most of the time." And the reason is energy. Without access to energy, poor people are stuck in the dark and
deny all of these benefits and opportunities that come with power. For thousands of years, people burned wood for
fuel and their lives were hard. But when we started using coal in the 1800s, life started getting better a lot faster.
Pretty soon we had lights, refrigerators, elevators, cars, planes, and all the other things that make up modern life. So
if we really want to help the poor, we need to find a way to get them cheap and clean energy.
Millions of the poorest families work as farmers. Changes in climate often mean that their crops won't grow
because of too little rain or too much rain. That's particularly unfair because they're the least responsible for
emitting (排放) CO2, which is causing the problem in the first place.
Scientists say that to avoid these great long-term changes to the climate, the world must cut greenhouse gas
emissions by up to 80 percent by 2050, and eliminate them entirely by the end of the century. Many scientists
agreed that wouldn't be enough. The problem is that CO2 lingers (残留) in the atmosphere for decades.
In 2015, the world emitted 36 billion tons of CO2 to produce energy. Someone may tell you they know how to
remove 100 million tons of CO2 per year. That sounds like a lot, but if you do the math 100 million divided by 36
billion you'll see that they're talking about 0.3 percent of the problem.
(P — world's population; S — services used by each person; E — energy to provide service, C —carbon dioxide
produced by energy)
As you learned in math class, any number multiplied by zero will equal zero. So if we want to get to zero需要更多资料,请加【微信1】 :educat51 【微信2】 :studying100
CO2, then we need to make at least one of the four factors zero. But the world's population(P) is currently 7 billion
and expected to increase to 9 billion by 2050. In terms of services used by each person (S), there are a lot of things
like food, living, transportation and so on, which means the need of much energy in providing them. Therefore, it is
carbon dioxide produced by energy (C) that matters the most in cutting down CO2.
57. The author uses the first paragraph to ________.
A. show what factor matters a lot in people's life
B. list the various life stages that people went through
C. urge people to take a positive attitude to future life
D. prove that people's lifestyles have changed greatly
58. We can replace the underlined word "eliminate" in the third paragraph with "________".
A. escape from B. take control of C. get rid of D. hide from
59. What can we learn from the fourth paragraph?
A. Every effort, whether it is great or little, is worth trying.
B. What we can do to handle CO2 is far from enough.
C. In 2015, the world emitted the greatest amount of CO2.
D. It is necessary for people to deal with the big problem step by step.
60. Which of the following can best describe the author?
A. Well-behaved and heroic. B. Serious and accomplished.
C. Experienced and energetic. D. Concerned and sympathetic.
根据第一段中的信息“To sum up history in one sentence, it would be "Life gets
better — not for everyone all the time, but for most people most of the time." And the reason is energy.”用一句话
总结历史,它就是“生活变得更好,不是对每个人一直是这样,而是大部分时间对大多数人来说是生活变
得更好”,究其原因是能源。可知文章主要从能源的角度述说了人类生活的改变,因此说明的是什么因素
对人们的生活产生很大的影响。故选A。
58【答案】C词义猜测题。根据上文“Scientists say that to avoid these great long-term changes to the climate,
the world must cut greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80 percent by 2050,”科学家们说,为了避免这些对气候的
巨大长期变化,世界必须在2050年前将温室气体排放量减少80%;以及下文“entirely by the end of the
century.”到本世纪末完全……。可知应是“消除”,get rid of 意为“消除、除掉”。故选C。需要更多资料,请加【微信1】 :educat51 【微信2】 :studying100
59【答案】B段落大意题。根据第四段中的信息“Someone may tell you they know how to remove 100 million
tons of CO2 per year. That sounds like a lot, but if you do the math 100 million divided by 36 billion you'll see that
they're talking about 0.3 percent of the problem.”
根据“So if we really want to help the poor, we need to find a way to get them cheap
and clean energy.”以及“Millions of the poorest families work as farmers. Changes in climate often mean that their
crops won't grow because of too little rain or too much rain. That's particularly unfair because they're the least
responsible for emitting (排放) CO2, which is causing the problem in the first place.”可知作者非常关注能源对人
类生活的影响,即CO₂的排放问题。由此可以看出作者是非常同情贫穷的劳苦大众的。故选D。需要更多资料,请加【微信1】 :educat51 【微信2】 :studying100
