It was a Saturday morning when the newspaper first reported the whales’ coming. A group of the animals were swimming
close to the beach in Jake’s hometown. All the local people rushed out to the beach to see them. They were expecting a

The event took place one snowy January morning Thomas Smith was walking his dog, Jack, in the park.“ As I was

and pulled him out. I don’t think I have ever felt so cold by the time we got back to dry land. And when we got there,
everyone was asking if Jack was okay------ no one was particularly worried, about me!”
A neighbor, Julie Brown, saw it all happen.“The dog went onto an icy lake. All of a sudden, it started to go under.
There were crowds of people around, and they were all shouting and screaming. Before I knew it, the owner Smith was in

as cool as a cucumber ----- he just crawled back out, put the dog on its lead, and went home.”

the room. Then, one day, John turned to the parrot and replied “Hi, Sally!” Staying with the parrot encouraged John to begin
talking.

八、书面表达(共1题,满分10分)
参考范文 :(possible answer)
Recently we have had a heated discussion on whether people should keep pets at home in cities. Some students think
keeping pets is not a good idea. According to them, pets can cause environmental pollution and pets are so noisy that they
stop people from getting any sleep all night. A small number of pets even attack people. While some students who are pets
lovers believe that human beings can live in harmony with animals and they bring us lots of happiness. Keeping pets also
helps us become more responsible people.
In my opinion, it’s a good idea to keep pets in cities. First, many people are lonely and a pet can be a good friend to them.
What’s more, pets can help keep our homes safe. Once there was something burning in the house, and my dog woke us up by
barking. We were able to put out the fire. We feel safe having our dog live with us. So keeping pets is a good idea.
