AI Handles “1 to 100”, While “0 to 1” Rests With Us

我是导演吴彬元,曾在主流媒体从事新闻纪实影像创作,近年来持续探索AI影像创作。

I am director Wu Binyuan. I once worked in mainstream media engaged in news documentary image creation, and have kept exploring AI image creation in recent years.

《海那边》的创作,最初来自一个很朴素的想法。近期,台湾国民党主席率团来大陆访问。在这样一个对两岸和平具有历史意义的时刻,我希望能用自己熟悉的AI影像方式,为拉近两岸关系做一点小小的贡献。

The creation of Beyond the Sea originated from a simple idea. Recently, the Chairman of Taiwan’s Kuomintang led a delegation to visit the Chinese mainland. At this historic moment for cross-strait peace, I hoped to use the AI image creation I am familiar with to make a modest contribution to closer cross-strait relations.

我把这个想法和北京电影学院中国动画研究院孙立军院长交流后,得到了孙院长的支持,于是开始推进这部 AI 微电影的创作。

After I shared this idea with Dean Sun Lijun of the China Animation Research Institute at Beijing Film Academy, I gained his support and thus started the production of this AI micro film.

在创作过程中,孙院长对影片一些关键部分的表达给予了指导。比如影片开场,原本我使用的是特写画面,孙院长建议调整为天空视角的大远景。这个变化让影片一开始有了更开阔的空间感和更多的想象。

During the creation, Dean Sun offered guidance on the expression of key parts of the film. For example, the opening was originally designed with close-ups, and he suggested switching to a wide sky-view long shot. This change endowed the film with a broader sense of space and more imagination at the very beginning.

在影片高潮部分,孙院长提醒我,人物的手部动作需要更细腻。这个意见看似很小,但对情感表达很重要。很多时候,真正打动观众的,不一定是一句很重的台词,而是一个迟疑、一次触碰、一点细微的动作变化。

At the climax of the film, Dean Sun reminded me to refine the characters’ hand movements. Seemingly trivial, this suggestion is crucial for emotional expression. More often than not, what truly touches the audience is not a powerful line, but a moment of hesitation, a gentle touch, or a subtle movement.

这也让我更深地感受到,AI 影像创作不是把画面生成出来就结束了。真正的创作,仍然需要镜头判断、细节把握,也需要对人物情感的耐心体会。

This made me realize more deeply that AI image creation is not merely generating visuals. Genuine creation still requires rational lens judgment, delicate detail control, and in-depth understanding of characters’ emotions.

我始终相信:AI 可以负责 “1 到 100”,但真正的 “0 到 1”,还得靠创作者自己。

I have always believed: AI can take charge of everything from 1 to 100, yet the essential leap from 0 to 1 depends entirely on creators.

“1 到 100”,是生成,是效率,是画面延展。AI 确实让很多过去很难完成的视觉表达,有了新的可能。它可以帮助我们生成场景、塑造人物、尝试风格,也让小团队有机会完成过去需要更大成本才能实现的画面。

“1 to 100” stands for generation, efficiency and visual expansion. AI has indeed brought new possibilities to many visual expressions that were hard to achieve in the past. It helps us generate scenes, shape characters and try diverse styles, enabling small teams to create visuals that once required huge costs.

但 “0 到 1” 是什么?是你为什么想做这个作品,是这个故事为什么值得讲,是一个人物为什么能打动人,是一段情绪为什么需要缓冲。

But what is “0 to 1”? It is the original intention of creating a work, the reason for telling a story, the charm of a character, and the logic of emotional rhythm.

这个部分,AI 替代不了。

This part can never be replaced by AI.

创作《海那边》时,我最在意的,不是让观众看到 “AI 有多厉害”,而是希望观众能看到画面所承载的情感。

When creating Beyond the Sea, my top priority was not to show how powerful AI is, but to let the audience feel the emotions carried by every frame.

AI 可以生成海面、光影和场景,但它不能替我理解一个人为什么想回家。它可以生成很多漂亮的画面,但哪一个画面该留下,哪一个画面只是好看却不适合这个故事,还是要靠创作者判断。

AI can generate sea surfaces, light and shadow, and scenes, but it cannot understand the longing for home. It can produce numerous gorgeous images, yet only creators can judge which shots should be retained and which are visually appealing but unsuitable for the story.

有些镜头,AI 可以做得更宏大;但最后我更愿意选择安静一点的表达。有些画面可以更华丽;但这个故事真正需要的,可能只是一个克制的眼神、一段慢下来的停顿、一句朴素的话。

AI could make some shots more grand, but I finally chose a more tranquil expression. Some visuals could be more ornate, yet what this story truly needs may only be a restrained gaze, a slow pause and a simple sentence.

在影视行业做得越久,我越觉得,技术会不断变化,但真正值得反复表达的,还是人与人之间那些朴素的爱和善意。它可能是一句 “我回来了”,也可能是一次等待、一份牵挂、一个没有说出口的想念。

The longer I work in the film and television industry, the more I feel that technology keeps evolving, while the most worthy themes to express are the simple love and kindness between people. It may be a simple “I’m back”, a long wait, sincere concern, or unspoken longing.

影像创作最终打动人的,往往不是最炫目的部分,而是观众能在里面感受到真实。

What ultimately touches people in image creation is often not the most dazzling effects, but the authenticity felt by the audience.

This is why I am particularly grateful to the Animation School of Beijing Film Academy.

一个人后来能走多远,除了自己的努力,也离不开曾经受过的训练、遇到过的老师、进入过的创作环境。很多东西当时看起来只是一节课、一次交流、一次点评,后来都会变成创作中的底气。

How far a creator can go in the future relies not only on personal efforts, but also on professional training, mentors encountered and creative environments experienced. A single lesson, communication or comment may seem ordinary at the time, but will eventually become the confidence in creation.

曾经在这里学习的经历,对我后来的创作帮助很大。它给我的不只是某一种技术方法,而是让我慢慢建立起一种看作品的方式。

My study experience here has greatly benefited my subsequent creation. It has offered me not only technical methods, but also a unique perspective to appreciate and evaluate works.

很多当时听到的专业知识,可能那时候还没有完全理解。真正到了项目里,面对一个个具体问题时,才发现那些教诲一直都在。

I could not fully understand many professional lessons back then. When facing practical problems in real projects, I realize those teachings have always guided me.

比如,画面很好看,但它服务故事吗?风格很强,但情感有没有被盖住?技术实现了,但作品有没有温度?

For instance: Is the beautiful footage serving the story? Does the strong artistic style overshadow emotions? With advanced technology applied, does the work still have warmth?

这些问题,最后都不是软件问题,而是创作者自己的判断问题。

In the end, these are not technical or software issues, but matters of the creator’s own judgment.

AI 时代并没有让专业训练变得不重要,反而让它更重要。因为 AI 会给我们很多答案,但创作者必须知道,哪个答案更接近作品真正需要的东西。

The AI era has not diminished the importance of professional training; on the contrary, it makes it more essential. AI provides numerous solutions, but creators must figure out which one fits the core needs of the work.

AI 不是创作的捷径,而是一种新的创作语言。它能帮助我们打开想象力,但作品能不能成立,最终还是要回到故事、人物、情感和审美。

AI is no shortcut to creation, but a new creative language. It helps us broaden imagination, while the success of a work ultimately depends on story, characters, emotion and aesthetics.

目前我仍在持续学习。AI 影像发展太快,每一个新工具、新模型都会带来新的可能,也会带来新的问题。不了解的人看到的是 AI 生成很快,但真正做作品的人知道,慢的部分仍然存在。

I am still learning continuously. AI image technology develops rapidly, and every new tool and model brings new possibilities as well as new challenges. Outsiders only see the high efficiency of AI generation, while professional creators know the slow and deliberate part of creation still exists.

慢在思考,慢在选择,慢在反复修改,慢在不断问自己:这个画面是不是有必要?这段情绪是不是准确?这个故事有没有真正讲清楚?

It is slow in thinking, selecting, repeated revision, and constant self-reflection: Is this scene necessary? Is the emotional expression accurate? Is the story told clearly and sincerely?

所以,我不太愿意把 AI 看成一条捷径。它更像是一种新的创作能力。它让更多人有机会把脑海里的画面做出来,也让很多原本受限于成本和资源的表达,有了被看见的可能。

Therefore, I refuse to regard AI as a shortcut. Instead, it is a new creative capability. It enables more people to visualize the ideas in their minds, and makes many expressions limited by cost and resources visible to the public.

但作品真正的起点,仍然是人。

Nevertheless, the true starting point of all works is always humanity.

这次创作的《海那边》能被更多人关注到,让我更加确定:AI 影像不应该只是技术展示,它应该成为一种新的创作语言,去讲述中国故事,表达真实情感,也记录这个时代里普通人的爱与牵挂。

The widespread attention of Beyond the Sea has strengthened my conviction: AI imagery should not be merely a technical display. It should become a new creative language to tell Chinese stories, convey true emotions, and record the love and concern of ordinary people in this era.

未来,我也希望继续沿着这个方向走下去。技术会不断更新,工具也会不断变化,但创作的初心不能变。

In the future, I will keep moving forward in this direction. Technology and tools will keep upgrading, but the original aspiration of creation shall never change.

认真看见生活,真诚表达情感,努力讲好中国故事。

Observe life earnestly, express emotions sincerely, and strive to tell Chinese stories well.
