"And that's why I think I'd be good for this job," I finished typing. I was having an online interview with my potential employer, Ms Black. We had not met in person yet… She even had a little pet dog who had the final say on any applicant. "Your puppy sounds so cute," I added. "I love dogs."

The bubbles appeared on screen, showing that the lady was typing something in response, when there was a knock at my front door… Our neighbor was in our entrance hall, holding her little cat, Marley. Tears were streaming down her cheeks. "We were attacked by a big dog," she wept. "But Marley is hurt," she nodded shakily and said.

"Let's take Marley to the veterinary hospital. I'll be with you in a moment."

I took the stairs two at a time. There was more writing from my potential employer on the screen, but I took no time to read it. I quickly wrote: "So sorry. Have to go. Neighbor's cat hurt, taking to veterinary hospital." Half the words were probably jumbled, but I clicked "send" and did not wait for an answer. I just seized my bag and ran back downstairs.

It was late when I got back, and I thought I had blown the online interview.

Despite the late hour, I typed a quick message to reply to Ms Black's concern.

It was late when I got back, and I thought I had blown the online interview.

1.很晚了。说明这一趟折腾了挺久,不是送进去就出来;

2.我以为搞砸了。心态是"完蛋了",所以第一段的前半段必须写这种心虚;

Despite the late hour, I typed a quick message to reply to Ms Black's concern.

Never had I walked out on anything so important.

Ms Black

It was late when I got back, and I thought I had blown the online interview. I knew quitting an interview halfway was extremely inappropriate and no boss would accept it. I did not regret it, though. Given the same choice again, I still would have helped my neighbor and Marley. I was worn out as I climbed the stairs to bed. However, a quick glance at my laptop cheered me up. There were a number of messages from Ms Black. As I looked through the messages, I was more than shocked. She had continued to write for a while after I had gone. She was anxious to hear how the cat was doing.

Despite the late hour, I typed a quick message to reply to Ms Black's concern. I sincerely explained the whole incident and apologized for the sudden interruption. To my great surprise, Ms Black replied promptly as I was about to shut down the computer. "You got the job!" I stared at the screen and couldn't believe my eyes. "What?" Maybe she had mistyped. "You got the job," she repeated. She said she was deeply touched by my kindness and sense of responsibility. She added, "Anyone who's willing to rush away from a job interview to help an injured animal is someone I want to work for me and my puppy."

It was late when I got back, and I thought I had blown the online interview. Never had I walkedout on anything so important; no employer would forgive such rudeness. What troubled me most was that I might never get a chance like this again. Yet, given the same choice, I would still have run. It was Marley's faint cry, not the screen, that had pulled me away. Gone wasthe ease with which I had typed "I love dogs". With my heart sinking, I opened my laptop — and froze: a dozen messages from Ms Black, all asking one thing — how was Marley?

Despite the late hour, I typed a quick message to reply to Ms Black's concern. I explained the accident and apologized for leaving so abruptly. Staring at the screen, I reread my words, my heart pounding. Her reply came in seconds: "You got the job." I blinked, certain she had mistyped. Had it not been for that knock at the door, I would never have learned thatkindness can open a door no interview can. She added that anyone willing to rush an injured cat to hospital was exactly who she wanted — for her, and for her puppy.

Never had I walked out on anything so important.

原句是I knew quitting an interview halfway was extremely inappropriate.

Gone was the ease with which I had typed “I love dogs”. 倒装写“情绪消失”,永远比The ease was gone 有力。

It was Marley's faint cry, not the screen, that had pulled me away.

原句是I did not regret it, though. Given the same choice again, I still would have helped...

Had it not been for that knock at the door, I would never have learned that kindness can open a door no interview can.

Had it not been for that storm, she would never have met...

Had it not been for her help, he would never havedone ...

What troubled me most was that I might never get a chance like this again.

I was most worried that...,不算错,就是平。

...the small life trembling in my neighbour's arms.

With my heart sinking, I opened my laptop — and froze.

原句是I was worn out as I climbed the stairs to bed. However, a quick glance at my laptop cheered me up.

...my heart pounding.

Staring at the screen, I reread my words, my heart pounding.

考场别都塞进去写,可以只留四五个:推荐倒装开头(Never had...)、主语从句(what mattered wasn't...)、With 复合(With my heart sinking...)、升级版(Staring..., my heart pounding)+ 虚拟语气压轴。
