SAREK NATIONAL PARK —EUROPE'S HIDDEN NATURAL TREASURE萨勒克国家公园---欧洲隐秘的自然瑰宝
A Summer Where the Sun Never Sleeps
I wake up to(伴着...醒来)the sound of the wind buffeting(连续猛击;拍打) the cloth of my tent. Even though(尽管;虽然) the sun is brightly shining, telling(分辨;判断) whether it is morning or night is impossible. I'm above the Arctic Circle(在北极圈以北), where in summer the sun never sets(落下;下沉). Checking(查看) my watch, I see that it is 7:30 a.m. I leave my tent and walk over to the mountain edge(边缘). Spreading out(展开;铺展开) before me, branches of the Rapa River(拉帕河)flow through the valley(山谷) below. I'm in the remote(偏远的) far north of Sweden(瑞典)in Sarek National Park, a place with no roads or towns.
A Land of Mountains and Ice
Sarek's mountains used to be(过去常常) covered by vast(广阔的;巨大的) sheets of ice. Around 9,000 years ago, this ice melted(融化), leaving behind(留下;遗留) about 100 glaciers(冰川). Soon after, reindeer(驯鹿) began to arrive. Following(紧随) the reindeer were the Sami (萨米)people, who made this territory(领地;地盘) their home. Getting here is quite difficult, so apart from(除……之外) the Sami very few people have ever seen Sarek. In 1909, Sarek was made(被辟为) a national park in order to keep the land in its natural state(自然状态). Though the Sami are allowed to(被允许) continue their traditionalway of life in the park, no one else can live here, and all new development(开发;发展) is banned(禁止) within park boundaries(边界;界限). At the far side of the valley, an ancient(古老的) Sami cottage(小屋;村舍) is visible(看得见的;可见的). Close by, there are a few reindeer feeding on(以……为食) grass.
Man at Peace with Nature
For hundreds of years, looking after reindeer was a way of life for the Sami. They used the reindeer's meat for food, their bones for tools(工具), and their skin for making clothes and tents. Since reindeer were always on the move(在迁徙;在移动中), the Sami would pick up(收拾) their tents and accompany(陪伴;随同) them. Today, most Sami have houses in villages near Sarek and live a modern(现代的) life just like their neighbours(邻居). But every spring, a small number of(少量的) Sami still follow their reindeer into the valleys of Sarek, living in tents or old cottages and enjoying their traditions.I am not a Sami, but in Sarek I’ve adopted(采纳;采用) some of their habits. For example, this morning my breakfast is flat bread warmed(被加热) over a fire, dried reindeer meat, and some sweet and sour(酸的) berries that I found growing near my tent.
A Land of Adventure
After breakfast, I pack(收拾;打包) my bag and set out(出发;动身) again. Since I must carry all of my food and supplies(补给品;物资) with me, my bag weighs(重;重量为) about 30 kilograms. If today is anything like(和……差不多) yesterday, it will be full of sweat(汗水) and hard work as I hike(远足;徒步) over this difficult land to my destination(目的地) on the other side of the valley. However, I cannot complain(抱怨). Being in such a beautiful and wild place makes me feel blessed(幸福的;幸运的) to be alive. Here I am, alone under this broad(广阔的) sky, breathing the fresh air, and enjoying this great adventure. What could be better?
Theme Parks — Fun and More than Fun
Which theme park would you like to visit? There are various(各种各样的) kinds of theme parks, with different parks for almost everything: food, culture, science, cartoons, movies, history, and so on.
