On the day of the show, Lan stood behind the curtain. Her hands were cold and her heart beat fast. When the music began, she took a deep breath and walked to the stage. At first her voice shook a little, but she kept singing. Slowly, the room became quiet, and people began to clap.
When the song ended, Lan bowed and smiled. Her classmates cheered loudly. After the show, Lan told her mother, "I was still afraid, but I did it anyway." From that day, Lan knew: courage does not mean you have no fear. It means you do the thing even when you are afraid.
