Wild Panda Population Grows to About 1,900 in China

October 27 marks the tenth International Panda Day. The giant panda is China's national treasure, and it has fans all over the world. Famous mascots like Panpan, Bing Dwen Dwen and Rongbao were designed after pandas.

Years ago, only about 1,100 wild pandas lived in China. Today the number has grown to about 1,900. In 2021, China set up the Giant Panda National Park. It connected 13 separated panda groups and greatly improved their living areas. The International Union for Conservation of Nature now lists the panda as "vulnerable" instead of "endangered".

In recent years, infrared cameras have often caught wild pandas on video. In Sichuan, the number of panda sightings keeps rising, and pandas in Gansu have appeared for several years in a row. This November, the Global Panda Partners Conference will open in Chengdu. Panda partners from around the world will gather there to protect the black-and-white treasure together.
