A 19-year-old independent artist, Omar Banos, is making’ waves as Cuco, a self-produced multi-
instrumentalist and singer. Omar Banos’ approach to music is simple. He just wants to make the music he would
listen to himself. Most of the time, that idea shows in his fast hip-hop beats and jazzy electric guitar solos.
Banos, who has released two self-produced albums, has been aspiring to music. He always wanted to play the
guitar, and picked it up in high school before expanding his talent to the trumpet and French horn. “I’m very
committed to my instruments,” Banos said. “If an instrument is right in front of me, and nobody has time to teach
me, I just teach myself.” The same is true for his dreamy production. At 16, Banos got his hands in his first music-
editing software, and he has developed a range of techniques.
Banos switches between English and Spanish, singing with his pleasant and warm lilt. “When I’m writing, I
更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂just put myself in a place, in a certain time period in my life,” he said, “songs just come out very naturally.”
Though Banos’ soft sound might encourage daydreaming, the independent artist is keeping his feet firmly on
the ground during his breakthrough. “I feel I’m watching myself take off, but my brain is still on the ground,” he
said. “This all happened so quickly. I didn’t even have time to get ready!”
Banos adds that despite his success, he isn’t always recognized as Cuco. “I will wear Vans, and sometimes
people will get confused. They will ask whether I’m sure I’m there to perform. I guess I don’t look like an artist,”
he said.
24. Why did Banos make music in the beginning?
A. To entertain himself. B. To kill his dull time.
C. To make himself well-known. D. To improve his skill in music.
25. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. Banos’ high school life. B. Banos’ learning methods.
C. Banos’ achievements in music. D. Banos’ great interest in music.
26. Which of the following can best describe Banos?
A. Honest and careful. B. Efficient and faithful.
C. Creative and low-key. D. Devoted and warm-hearted.
27. What may be the best title for the text?
A. Banos has made himself take off B. Banos will continue daydreaming
C. A genius learned music in high school D. A famous singer keeps pursuing his dream

Genealogy, or researching your family tree, is a hobby that can rapidly develop into an obsession. Before you
start looking for your own ancestors, read this advice from genealogist Maria McLeod.
The first question to ask yourself is why you want to research your family tree. Genealogy is not about
discovering that you are the lost prince or princess of an unknown kingdom. It’s about finding more about yourself.
For most people the important question is “Why am I like I am?” You might not look like other members of your
immediate family and you want to know where your green eyes or curly hair come from. You may be curious about
why you have such a quick temper. You may even be suffering from a medical condition and want to know if
something in your genetic makeup has caused it.
Another common motivation for researching your family tree is that you plan to visit the place that your
ancestors came from and you secretly hope that you will find some long lost cousins with whom you can share your
memories. There can be few more exciting things than meeting a distant cousin who is living on the other side of
更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂the globe and finding that she looks just like your younger sister. But you should also bear in mind that they may
not necessarily want to have anything to do with you. Sometimes there are skeletons in the cupboard that you and
your branch of the family are unaware of, but which are still fresh in the minds of your more distant relatives.
Once you are clear about your motivations, you need to take a moment to think about just how many ancestors
you might have and how far back you intend to go. You have, no doubt, thought about your parents’ parents and
your parents’ parents’ parents. But go back ten generations and the picture becomes much more complicated. You
can work it out for yourself. You may be descended(遗传) from no fewer than 1,024 people through ten
generations. This can mean that you spend hours going through official records, either in person at the records
office or on the Internet. Are you prepared for such a huge task?
28. What might be Maria Mcleod’s first piece of advice be?
A. Be prepared to accept your bad temper.
B. Don’t expect to find lovely relatives.
C Be prepared to find out your hidden health problems.
D. Don’t expect to find out you are a member of a royal family.
29. Why are some relatives unwilling to meet you?
A. You may bring back bad memories.
B. They find it disturbing to entertain you.
C. They suspect you of having wrong motives.
D. You could remind them of their lost loved ones.
30. What does the underlined word “it” in the last paragraph refer to?
A. Who your great grandparents are.
B. When you can finish your huge task.
C. Why researching a family tree is complex.
D. How many people you are descended from.
31. What is the best title for the text?
A. Uncovering family secrets: do you dare?
B. The science of genealogy: new developments
C. Expert opinions on researching your family past
D. A step-by-step guide to researching your family tree

Buying clothes for a special event, hiding the price tickets and returning them to the store the next day has for
更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂years been the method of economical shoppers. Today people are doing it just for social media.
A survey conducted by the credit card company Barclaycard revealed that nearly one in ten UK shoppers
admits to buying clothing only to post photos on social media for likes. After the “outfit (装束) of the day” makes it
online, they return it to the store. According to Barclaycard, the “try before you buy” policy of online retailers (零
售商) where people pay for clothing they order online after they try it on at home could be contributing to this
rising trend.
But the rise of social media has meant that everyone, not just superstars, expects to build and maintain a
personal brand. Since we’re documenting our lives and posting them online for public judgment, getting caught in
the same outfits more than once should be avoided. And the cost of all those outfits of the day adds up, which
makes returning a popular way.
There are brands that tailor clothes specifically for social media shoppers, like Fashion Nova. “These are
clothes made for social media: meant to be worn once, photographed and abandoned,” Allison P. Davis wrote in her
report about the brand. Another favorite of the social media age is Rent the Runway, which lets customers rent
designer clothing for a fee.
Some, however, are moving in the opposite direction. Groups promoting “work uniforms” have increased
greatly in recent years, aiming to free women from “the annoyance of clothing decisions”. The concept of the
“capsule wardrobe” (胶囊衣柜), which calls for purchasing a small number of high-quality pieces instead of lots of
trendy throwaway clothes, is also making a comeback.
32. What does the survey by Barclaycard indicate?
A. Some Britons send outfits back after shoots.
B. Britons try on clothes before online purchases.
.
C Britons follow the fashion stars closely.
D. Some Britons over-order and return clothes.
33. What’s Fashion Nova’s special service?
A. Renting chargeable designer clothes.
B. Offering customers single-use clothes.
C. Creating unique shopping experiences.
D. Helping shoppers improve their clothing style.
34. What’s the idea behind the “capsule wardrobe”?
A. Better fewer, but better.
B. Less addition, but more enjoyment.
更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂C. Less uniform and more freedom.
D. More choices and less annoyance.
35. What’s the purpose of the author to write the text?
A. To compare different wearing trends.
B. To criticize the “try before you buy” policy.
C. To advocate buying high-quality clothes.
D. To introduce Britain’s new wearing trend.

Both IQ and EQ are considered important to our career success. ____ 3 6____ Enter adaptability
quotient(AQ), a subjective set of qualities loosely defined as the ability to improve in an environment of fast and
frequent change.
Every profession will require adaptability and flexibility. Say you are an accountant. Your IQ gets you through
the examinations. Your EQ helps your connect with an interviewer, land a job, and develop relationships with
clients and colleagues. ____ 3 7____ All three quotients are somewhat complementary(互补的), since they all help
you solve problems and therefore adapt. An ideal candidate possesses all three, but not everyone does. ____ 3 8____
While there is no definite method of measuring adaptability like an IQ test, companies are changing their
recruitment (招聘) processes to help identify people who may be high in it.
Natalie Fratto suggests three ways AQ might show in potential candidates: if they can picture possible
versions of the future by asking what if questions; if they can unlearn information to challenge conventional
wisdom; and if they enjoy exploration or seeking out new experiences.
____ 3 9____ First, limit distractions and learn to focus so that you can determine what adaptations to make.
Second, ask uncomfortable questions to develop courage and normalize fear. Third, be curious about things that
fascinate you by having more conversations rather than Googling the ready answer.
Over the next three years, 120 million people may need to be reskilled because of automation, according to a
2019 IBM study. We may not all be comfortable with the pace of change-but we can prepare. ____ 4 0____
A. AQ is now increasingly being sought at the hiring level.
B. One good thing about AQ is that experts say you can work to develop it.
C. The ability to learn, change, grow, experiment will be the key.
D. This is because an algorithm(算法)can do these tasks faster and more accurately than a human.
更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂E. But today, as technology redefines how we work, the skills we need to improve in the job market are developing
too.
F. Having IQ but no EQ would leave you struggling to embrace new ways of working using your existing skills.
G. Then, when systems change or aspects of work are automated, you will need AQ to accommodate this
innovation and adapt to new ways of performing your role.

As a mountain, 1,642-foot Squaw Peak isn’t particularly challenging. But its inviting views of western
Massachusetts have tricked hikers to its steep (陡峭的) and slippery cliffs, resulting in countless injuries and even
deaths.
Henry Grant, a freshman at Ithaca College, was well aware of the danger of Squaw Peak. Thus he stayed ten
feet from the edge while waiting for his mother to catch up to him one day in August 2019, He watched 15 or so
other hikers enjoy the scenery; one hiker, around 60 and dressed in pink, was admiring the view over the lip of the
cliff with her husband.
When Grant’s mother rejoined him, the two turned to continue on their way. Suddenly, he heard a thump (撞击
声), and another thump. Then he heard something frightening: “Paula! Paula!” a man yelled wildly. Grant turned
around. The woman in pink was nowhere to be seen. She’d fallen off the side of the mountain.
Several hikers immediately started looking for her, but their view was blocked by trees. Grant told his mother,
“I hate to say this, but they’re probably going to find a body.” Uncertain they could help, Grant and his mother
headed down the trail.
But when he saw hikers still searching, he decided to lend a hand. After assuring his mother that he would be
safe, he made his way down the mountain alone, hoping he wasn’t too late.
After 15 minutes of pushing past the brush and slipping down the trail, Grant spotted a figure about 25 feet
above him. She was dressed in pink, in a kneeling position on a small rocky outcropping (突出处).
The woman had fallen about 75, feet. Amazingly, she was alive. “Paula!” Grant shouted. “Paula! Is that you?”
The woman barely responded. She was hurt and her mind was not so clear. Grant called 911 to report her location.
He waited where he was for a bit, but she kept trying to move, and every time she moved, she slipped a little more.
