Yet you can’t stop yourself from adding to the pile. This can lead to feelings of guilt over your new purchases. But I’m here to tell you to stop worrying. What you have is an antilibrary, and it’s a very good thing. The term comes from writer Umberto Eoo. He is the owner of a large personal library. He separates visitors into two groups: those who react with “Wow! What a library you have! How many of these books have you read?” and the others who get the point that a private library is not something to show off but a research tool. Read books are far less valuable than unread ones. Indeed, the more you know, the larger the rows of unread books. Let us call this collection an antilibrary. If you think you already know everything about a subject, you’re cutting yourself off from a steam of information at an artificial(假的) point. So a growing library of books you haven’t read means you’re consistently curious about the unknown. And that attitude is a great basis for a lifelong love of learning. So don’t feel guilty over your unread books. Those books will be there for you when you do want them, and as you build your library of read and unread books, you can start using it as you would use a bigger library. Certain books may become references(参考书) more than read-throughs. Or you may find that a book you bought five years ago has special relevance today. Letting the role of books evolve in your life is a healthy sign of curiosity. That’s good for you and good for the world around you. 33. What does the underlined word “antilibrary” in Paragraph 2 mean? A. Feelings of guilt over new books. B. A pile of books on the bookshelf. C. The collection of unread books. D. A large personal library. 34. According to the author, more unread books mean ________. A. your lifelong leaning attitude is wrong B. you limit yourself from the unknown C. you have known a lot about the world D. you are eager to know the new world. 35. What's the author’s attitude towards having an antilibrary? A. Negative. B. Doubtful. C. Supportive. D. Uncertain. 【答案】33. C 34. D 35. C 【解析】 【分析】本文主要讲了收藏未读书籍这一行为是非常好的,收藏更多未读书籍意味着你对新信息的强烈渴望。 【33题详解】 词义猜测题。根据第二段“Read books are far less valuable than unread ones. Indeed, the more you know, the larger the rows of unread books. Let us call this collection an antilibrary.”可知,知道的越多,未读书籍的名单 越多,这种未读书籍的收藏就叫做antilibrary,故选C。 【34题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“So a growing library of books you haven’t read means you're consistently curious about the unknown.”可知,更多未经阅读的书意味着你持续对未知的事物很好奇,也就是渴望了解新世界, 故选D。 【35题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Letting the role of books evolve in your life is a healthy sign of curiosity. That’s good for you and good for the world around you.”可知,作者对于收藏未读书籍这一行为持赞成态度,故选 C。 Stories are shared in many ways. They are described in books and magazines. They are read around the campfire at night. They are randomly distributed(随机分发)from stand-alone booths. But what else? To revive(复兴)literature in the end of fast news and smartphone addiction, Short Edition, a French publisher of short-form literature, has set up more than 30 story dispensers in the USA in the past years to deliver fiction at the push of a button at restaurants, universities and government offices. Francis Ford Coppola, the film director and winemaker, liked the idea so much that he invested in his company and placed a dispenser at his Cafe Zoetrope in San Francisco. Last month public libraries in some other cities announced they would be sitting them up, too .There is one on the campus at Penn State. A few can be found in downtown West Palm Beach, Fla and Sbort Edition plans to announce more, including at the Los Angeles International Airport. “Everything old is new again,” said Andrew Nurkin, the director of the Free Library of Philadelphia, which is one of the libraries that set up the dispensers. “We want people to be easily exposed to literature. We want to advance literacy among children and inspire their creativity.” Here’s bow a dispenser works: It has three buttons on top indicating choices for stories that can be read in one minute, three minutes or five minutes. When a button is pushed, a short story is printed. The stories are free. They are chosen from a computer category of more than 100,000 original submissions by writers whose works have been evaluated by Short Edition’s judges, and transmitted over a mobile network. Offerings can be tailored to specific interests, like children’s fiction or romance. Short Edition gets stories for it category by holding writing contests. Short Edition set up its first booth in 2016 and has 150 machines worldwide. “The idea is to make peoplehappy,” said Kristan Leroy, director of Short Edition, “There is too much unhappiness today.” 36. The government says the classes will give students exercise. But some people don’t like the idea. Yoga is an exercise program that practices breathing and stretches, and encourages people to pay attention to their minds and bodies. Yoga began in India thousands of years ago, and has connections to several religions(宗教). Over time, people around the world began taking up yoga simply as an exercise to make the mind and body stronger. Yoga can reduce stress. It can also help with flexibility, balance and pain relief. Though many countries around the world offer yoga classes, Nepal is the first country to require its students to take them. The new rule will mean that yoga joins other required classes like math, science, English and the Nepali language. The rule has a great influence on hundreds of thousands of Nepali children in elementary schools and junior high schools. Nepal’s minister of education said, “Yoga is our ancient science. We want students to learn it and we think this is the right time.” But some people don’t agree with the idea. They believe that because of yoga’s old connections to the Hindu religion, it's unfair to make everyone take part in it. People speaking for Nepal’s government say the focus of the new rule is on encouraging students to be active. The new classes are going to start this month, but it may take a while before all the students can begin yoga classes. That’s because the country doesn’t have enough yoga teachers. 40.
