A Lecture on Earthquake
Last week witnessed a lecture on earthquake given by Professor Li who is an expert in the field of
earthquake in our school hall.
Present at the activity were all the teachers and students. The lecture was rich in content, including an
introduction of the causes and distribution, as well as the prediction and prevention of the earthquakes. At
the end of the lecture, participants were offered the opportunity to interact with Professor Li about the
related questions. The lecture was successfully completed with warm applause of all attending people.
The event turned out to be successful. Not only did we have a better understanding of earthquake, but
we also knew how to handle emergent problems and ensure our safety during the natural disaster.
第二节(满分25 分)
Without hesitation, Simon took action. Dipping the blanket in the water pool and covering his head
with it for necessary protection, he rushed into the house. Unable to see things clearly through the smoke
and fire, Simon lowered himself to the ground, stretched his hands and felt his way forward until he reached
the bedroom. Just then, a faint voice of a child caught his attention. Following the sound, he finally found
James lying in a corner, frightened and helpless. He grabbed James, wrapped him in the blanket and made
his way back towards the open door.
Simon rushed out of the burning house with James in his arms. Seeing James carried to safety,
Mary breathed a sigh of relief. At that moment, firefighters arrived at the scene and put out the fire. Then

Simon, Mary and her children were all sent to a nearby hospital, where they received timely medical care.
Simon’s heroic act saved James’ life. Mary couldn’t thank him enough for his selflessness and bravery. But
Simon said smilingly, “It was no big deal. I just did what I was supposed to do.” This experience brought the
community closer, and Simon’s courageous act inspired others to consider what they would do in similar
situations.

(Text 1)
W: Hello, George. I’m moving tomorrow afternoon. Can you give me a hand?
M: Sorry, but there’s a soccer game I really want to see in the afternoon. But I can come after
the game and help clean up.
(Text 2)
W: Hello, I’d like some information about the museum. Is it right that you open at 9:30 today?
M: That’s only during the week. On Saturdays we open at 9:45. You have to wait 25 minutes.
(Text 3)
M: Hi, Jane! It’s good to see you. What have you been up to?
W: I’ve been traveling. I’ve been to so many places, but I couldn’t name them all.
M: That’s exciting. Did you go to Germany?
W: Yeah, that’s one place I’ve got to. I haven’t been to Spain or France, though.
(Text 4)
M: Are you going to the game tomorrow?
W: Yes, I think I’ll take the car.
M: Are you crazy? There won’t be anywhere to park. I’m going to take the bus.
W: So I’ll walk then. It’s always good to get a little exercise.
(Text 5)
M: Hi, Maria. I’m going to the cinema after finishing homework. Want to join me?
W: Hi, John! I can’t. My dad asked me to do some things with Nick.
M: Your little brother? Oh, you’re babysitting. Too bad.
(Text 6)
W: Hey, I heard you finally got yourself a job. How did you manage to do that?
M: Well, it’s a bit funny how I got this job. I mean, I had been reading the newspaper every day for the last
few weeks without having any luck. Then, I got this phone call from a friend of mine. We hadn’t talked to
each other since we graduated from college. He told me that he started a company and he wanted me to help
him out.
W: Wow, you’re really lucky to get this chance since the job market is terrible nowadays.
M: That’s right.
(Text 7)
W: Eddie, I missed geography. What were you learning about?
M: Remember we learned about rivers last week? We’ve started looking at the sea now. It’s
interesting!
W: Is the information in our textbooks?
M: No, today we just watched a short film from the Internet, so there is not really anything in the
textbook that you can look at.
W: Did you learn about fish?
M: We were actually learning about where the water comes from, and where it goes. And our
homework is to write down ten things you can find on the beach.
W: Oh, that’s easier than the picture we had to draw last week.
(Text 8)
W: Hi, Jim. How was your trip to Ashford?
M: Great! There is a really old beautiful tower there. It was built in the 10th century, and it was
repaired in the 17th century. We also saw some old wooden houses that were built there in the 13th
century.

W: Was it expensive to visit the tower?
M: It’s seven pounds usually. But it was five pounds for us because there were more than eight people in
our group.
W: That’s good. What about lunch?
M: There was a hill outside the village, so we climbed up and had it there. We could see the river from
the top. Then later we went for a walk in a small beautiful garden.
W: What about the weather?
M: Well, we had umbrellas, so we kept dry. It’s a shame it wasn’t sunny.
W: Oh, no. it’s windy here.
(Text 9)
W: David, for the photography competition, can we take pictures of anything we like? Such as
flowers?
M: This year you have to take a photograph of food. It was animals last year.
W: And how old you need to be? Can my brother enter?
M: He’s 12, isn’t he? Then yes. You have to be under 14 to enter.
W: Thanks. Do you e-mail the photo?
M: You have to print it yourself, so you can’t send it by e-mail. You have to post it.
W: Right. When do they need to receive the photos?
M: You haven’t got that long. They need to get the photos by 15th July, and today is July 2nd,
so hurry up!
W: OK. What does the winner get? A cup like last year?
M: No, Some money. And if I win, I’m going to spend it on a new camera.
(Text 10)
W: Welcome to Seaport Zoo! Set in beautiful countryside, Seaport Zoo is home to over 400 animals from all
over the world. Visitors of all ages will enjoy a ride on the “Animal Train”.
The work in the zoo is non-stop and our workers make sure that the animals get all the care and attention
they need. The first job of the day is to clean the animals’ homes — this starts at eight o’clock and has to
be done every day, to make sure that the animals are kept happy and healthy. The zoo gates close at 6
p.m. but the work still goes on until 7 as there are plenty more things to do. The last job of the day is to
feed the elephants their supper.
If you want to know more about your favorite animal, then come along to one of the short talks given by
our workers. The talks change every day, so check the notice at the main entrance to make sure you
don’t miss anything.
The zoo has no restaurants, and drinks and food can be bought from machines next to the picnic area.
And a gift shop is open throughout the year at the main entrance. Two smaller gift shops are also open
during the summer.
