✦定位谓语动词

1、全句共有两个动词或带有动词性质的结构：were planted、to protect.

2、其中were planted是被动语态结构，属于主句的谓语动词；to protect是动词不定式结构，作非谓语，不能作主句谓语。

3、因此，主句真正的谓语动词是were planted。

✦ 拆解其它成分

1、to find out:动词不定式作宾语，跟在try后面，构成try to do sth.结构，意为“试图找出”。

2、how:疑问词，引导宾语从句，在从句中作方式状语，意为“如何”。

3、with each other:介词短语作状语，修饰从句谓语communicate,意为“彼此”。

4、in the deep sea:介词短语作地点状语，修饰从句谓语communicate,意为“在深海里”。

1、精准翻译：科学家们仍在试图找出这些聪明的动物如何在深海里彼此交流。
