                                                      The Family Portrait

   In the kitchen of our old home, there hangs a picture frame containing Van Gogh’s "Sunflowers," which seems to have been uniformly placed by the real estate developer before we moved in. One day at dinner, my mother looked at the frame and asked, "How about hanging a family portrait in that spot?" My parents had formed a family for thirty-five years. Although we had a few travel photos, we had never taken a proper family portrait at a studio.

   A few weeks later, I took my parents to a newly opened photo studio in Daqiu. Although it was a bit far from our home, the photographer's style suited our family atmosphere, so we chose it. During the shoot, my parents first held hands in an embracing pose. Then my brother and I stood behind them. "Come, please put your hand on Dad's shoulder," the photographer directed. "Son, you can stand a little closer to Mom."

    "Please look into each other's eyes, daughter and dad!" I had never stared at my father for so long. His eyes had many wrinkles and looked somewhat cloudy. Looking at this middle-aged man standing before me, I almost cried. In my heart, I pleaded: Photographer, please make sure to take a beautiful picture of my parents.
