成达万高铁开始全线铺轨

Track Laying Starts on the Chengdu-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway

On October 1, workers laid the first 500-metre steel rail at Nanchong North Station in Sichuan Province. This marked the start of track laying on the Chengdu-Dazhou-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway, which is an important part of China's high-speed rail network.

The line starts at Tianfu Station in Chengdu and passes through several cities, including Nanchong and Dazhou. It ends at Wanzhou North Station, where it joins another railway line. The main line is 477 kilometres long and trains will run at up to 350 kilometres an hour. The whole project needs about 890 kilometres of track and 178 sets of switches.

Building the line is not easy. In Dazhou and Suining, workers must deal with steep slopes and long tunnel groups. They improved the machines and made special plans so that the work could go on safely. The railway is expected to open in 2027, and then the trip from Chengdu to Wanzhou will take less than two hours.

Science Museum Welcomes Families During National Day Holiday

During the National Day holiday, the China Science and Technology Museum in Beijing stays open. It offers a themed programme called "Happy National Day, Curious about the Future", which includes a science carnival, science exploration, a science camp and a class on ancient Chinese technology.

In the science carnival, visitors can enjoy science plays, magic shows and bubble shows. They can also follow young guides to explore the Tianhe core module of China's space station. Another part turns deep-sea technology into a maze and puzzle game, and this practice has been recognised by a United Nations ocean programme.

In the science camp, children act as little engineers and do experiments to build models. A class on ancient technology shows how old Chinese weapons and walls were made, and visitors can put together a Zhuge repeating crossbow or build a model of a war cart. The museum's cinema shows 15 science films each day.

Terracotta Warriors Pit No. 2 Reopens to the Public

The exhibition hall of Pit No. 2 at the Terracotta Warriors site in Xi'an has reopened to the public on October 1, after more than half a year of improvement work. The pit is part of the Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang and is the largest of the three exhibition halls at the site.

The new show has a theme called "Bow Ready, Chariots Racing, Horsemen Leaping". Pit No. 2 contains crossbowmen, chariots and horsemen, and the name describes how these soldiers moved in battle. The hall is now divided into 10 groups of content, covering the pit's archaeology, its structure and the arrangement of the army.

To help visitors understand the site, the museum has added multimedia screens, mixed-reality scenes and moving light shows inside the pit.
