Dear Ben,
Sorry to hear that you were criticized by your teacher for using AI to complete your homework. I’m writing
to share my thoughts on this matter and offer some advice.
From my perspective, while AI brings much convenience, relying on it for homework isn’t appropriate.
Therefore, I advise you to complete your homework independently. Moreover, if you encounter difficulties, you
are supposed to seek help from teachers or classmates. Do bear in mind that the process of overcoming challenges
is where real learning happens.
I hope my suggestions will be of some help to you. I am looking forward to hearing your progress soon.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节 (满分25分)
Sadly, the week went by quickly, and the time for Claire to leave arrived. After she left, I cried, feeling my
soul being empty again. I entered her room and looked at the pictures she had drawn, remembering the time we
had spent together. As I was packing them in a box, a sheet of paper fell on the floor. I picked it up. It was a
picture of Claire and me, with a note reading, “I love staying with you.”
I rushed to the orphanage and told her that I wanted to stay with her too. That was how I adopted her. When
I brought Claire home, she hugged me tightly, asking whether she could call me Mom now. I immediately nodded
as I hugged her back happily, saying, “I’m your mom. I’ll always be there for you.” From that day on, I never felt
lonely. A child got her mom, and a lonely soul got a loving child.

Text 1
M: Good morning, can I help you?
W: Yes, this dress is too long. Would you please shorten it for me?
Text 2
W: John, what’s up? Why are you standing on the desk?
M: The light suddenly went off. The bulb (电灯泡) must have burnt out.
Text 3
W: Ethan, slight problem with the meeting next week.
M: Don’t tell me — Andy Norton can’t give his talk.
W: It is not that. I have had over 60 bookings, but the hall is only big enough for 40 seats.
Text 4
M: Where’re you heading in such a rush?
W: I’m heading home to grab (匆匆地取或拿) something to eat and then I’ll come back for our group discussion.
M: OK. See you then.
Text 5
M: What happened to your hand?
W: Well, I was cutting carrots the other day and the knife slipped and nearly took my finger off!
Text 6
W: Hi, John! Do you know where Mr. Green is?M: He is having a meeting. Why do you ask him?
W: I’d like to have a day off tomorrow.
M: What’s wrong with you?
W: Not me. My grandma is ill in hospital. My father has to fly to New York tomorrow and my mother, as a
designer, will take part in an important show then. So I have to take care of my grandma.
M: I’m sorry to hear that. But you’d better tell him about that yourself. I think he will allow you to do that.
W: Thanks. I hope so.
Text 7
W: Tommy, supper is ready.
M: OK, Mom. I will come soon.
W: Tommy! We have to be quick. It’s already 7:30. I don’t want to miss the beginning of the play on TV.
M: Just a minute, Mom. I will win the game soon. I have never been so sure of beating Johnny.
W: Playing computer games is bad for your eyes. You should learn from your sister Cathy. She always puts her
homework before games and sports. She is ...
M: Mom, let me finish the game, will you? I promise to behave well after winning this game.
W: Too many promises you’ve made.
M: Oh, terrible. Johnny killed another soldier of my army.
Text 8
M: Hi, Kate! Why are you dancing? I thought we had to study for our math test!
W: Oh, hi, Bill! I was just exercising. It’s my favorite way to get relaxed. I thought you would arrive later. Let me
turn the music off.
M: OK. When it comes to exercise, I prefer playing soccer.
W: Sports like jogging and playing balls are good ways, but I like to dance better. Do you sometimes do it?
M: Yes, but I am not a good dancer. Oh, my team won the final last week.
W: Cool! I know you go to the gym to practice every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
M: You’re right. It’s hard work, but it is worth doing.
W: I see. If it weren’t for the math test tomorrow we could hang out right now.
M: Right. No more fun and games. Let me get my notebook.
Text 9
W: What about your school trip to Durham?
M: Well, we visited three places — the church, the museum and the castle. The castle opens only in the morning,
so we were taken there early. After that we went to the other two places.
W: Was it a good trip?
M: Well, not bad. In the museum, we saw old paintings and stamps, which I didn’t like very much. But the guide
showed us some old clocks and told us about their history. I really enjoyed them.
W: And the castle?
M: Well, you know some are just dark and empty. But this castle was different. There were a lot of things to see.
However, it wasn’t very warm.
W: Did you go to the church after lunch?
M: Yes. It was large. I wanted to take some photos there but I wasn’t allowed.
W: Did you go shopping?
M: Yes, but I only bought some postcards. The book about Durham I wanted was too expensive. Oh, one of my
classmates bought a big model church.
W: Sounds like a nice trip.
Text 10
W: Good morning, everyone. May I have your attention, please? I just want to tell everyone that the place of the
office party has been changed. Instead of being at the Irish Pub on 6th Street, it will be at the LaFleur Club.
The LaFleur Club is not very far from the office. It is on the corner of 9th Street, just across from the
Greenville Gallery and next to the Rodolfo Club. If anyone doesn’t know the place, you can ask me for details.
It has a very nice atmosphere, and even a karaoke stage. Our company will pay for only a buffet and soft
drinks, so you will have to pay for wine yourself. The subway station is really far away from the LaFleur Club.
And it is difficult to park your cars there during the dinner time. So as for the transportation, we strongly
encourage you to take the bus. See you at the party! I hope all of you will come and enjoy the party.
