How pleased and proud Mother would be when they brought her breakfast in bed. They planned to make French toast and chicken porridge. They had watched their mother in the kitchen. There was nothing to it. Jenna and Jeff knew exactly what to do. The big day came at last. The alarm rang at 6 a.m. The pair went down the stairs quietly to the kitchen. They decided to boil the porridge first. They put some rice into a pot of water and left it to boil while they made theFrench toast. Jeff broke two eggs into a plate and added in some milk. Jenna found the bread and put two slices into the egg mixture. Next, Jeff turned on the second stove burner to heat up the frying pan. Everything was going smoothly until Jeff started frying the bread. The pan was too hot and the bread turned black within seconds. Jenna threw the burnt piece into the sink and put in the other slice of bread. This time, she turned down the fire so it cooked nicely. Then Jeff noticed steam shooting out of the pot and the lid starting to shake. The next minute, the porridge boiled over and put out the fire. Jenna panicked. Thankfully, Jeff stayed calm and turned off the gas quickly. But the stove was a mess now. Jenna told Jeff to clean it up so they could continue to cook the rest of the porridge. But Jeff’s hand touched the hot burner and he gave a cry of pain. Jenna made him put his hand in cold water. Then she caught the smell of burning. Oh dear! The piece of bread in the pan had turned black as well. As the twins looked around them in disappointment, their father appeared. ________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ The twins carried the breakfast upstairs and woke their mother up. ________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】As the twins looked around them in disappointment, their father appeared. Yet everyone accepted the frail little girl and named her Cheemi — the little sparrow. She helped people by doing odd jobs for them, such as fetching vegetables from the corner shop or looking after babies when their mothers went shopping. Everybody in the neighbourhood liked Cheemi, except Kaki. Kaki was the richest woman there. Cheemi, in her eyes, was dirty and inferior to her. Therefore, she would not allow Cheemi into her big house. The house was almost like a mansion with big wooden carved doors and huge halls. Surprisingly, the windows of the rooms decorated with beads and curtains, were very small. Kaki lived with her son, her daughter-in-law Gauri and her little grandson, Chotu. Chotu was a great favourite with the girls. Gauri was a very nice, educated lady and didn’t mind Chotu being carried by others. Kaki, however, never allowed Cheemi to touch Chotu. How Cheemi wished she could play with him! That year, Panshet Dam collapsed and the waters of the Mutha river, near Pune, had entered the city. The water rose fast. There was confusion everywhere. Police vans were trying to help. When water entered their house, Kaki and Gauri were on the ground floor. Within seconds the water rose. The police persuaded Kaki and Gauri to climb to the top floor. In the hurry and confusion, they forgot that Chotu was sleeping on the first floor! The staircases were flooded. It was impossible to get to the bedroom on the first floor. The door to the room was closed but not bolted. Any moment the water could rush in. The women panicked. “Chotu!” they cried. “What’ll happen to our Chotu?” Suddenly the police discovered that one of the bedroom windows was open, but it was too small for an adult to crawl (爬) in. Only a child could. But no one was willing to let their children take the risk. Out of nowhere, Cheemi appeared. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________ Loud cheers greeted Cheemi. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 Out of nowhere, Cheemi appeared. “Let me help. I can easily crawl in and get Chotu out,” she offered without a second thought. There was no time to waste. The policemen assisted Cheemi to the window: “Jump!” they told her in a determined tone. “We will drop you a rope ladder through the window.” Without a moment’s hesitation, Cheemi jumped through the window. Chotu was sleeping soundly. Picking him up, Cheemi put him on her back and tied him lightly to herself with a bed sheet. Slowly she scaled the ladder and peeped through the window. Carefully she undid the bed sheet and handed it, with the child, to a policeman. Then she exerted the last ounce of strength to crawl out of the window. Loud cheers greeted Cheemi. Seeing everyone clapping for her, Cheemi was stunned to a halt and did not know what the fuss was all about. It was at this point that Kaki dragged Cheemi to her and hugged her tightly. Feeling immensely grateful to Cheemi. Kali learned what mattered a lot was a person’s courage and humanity. Then she asked Cheemi what reward she would like to have for her bravery. To her surprise, Cheemi said in a low voice. “I want to have an opportunity to play with Chotu.” Kaki told her that she could stay with her family as long as she wanted. On hearing this, Chemi gave a jump in the air, twirling round and round. At last she had a place to stay and play with little Chota. Papa was the mechanic (修理工)of the observatory, but during the day Papa would not allow her to get closer to the telescopes there. Only at night, Catalina was allowed in with the permission of the night staff. Catalina loved helping to service the grand telescopes, the eyes that looked out into the universe. She wanted badly to be an astronomer someday. Adults never took her dream seriously. Even her father laughed, “Maybe you’ll be hired to clean the offices. ” One day in library, Catalina was reading a plant journal when she stopped at the picture of an unusual white flower. “It’s called wild carrot. “ A Spanish astronomer, who she saw several times in the observatory, stood behind her. “Pretty, isn’t it? I’ve always liked that flower, because it looks like a galaxy. ” “A spiral galaxy (漩涡星系), ”she whispered. Blond eyebrows climbed the scientist's forehead. “Indeed. And what is your name, young lady?” he asked. ”I’m Catalina Solis. ” “Eduardo Solis’s daughter? The mechanic?” Yes. ”She gave a look at him. “I want to be an astronomer when I grow up. " He laughed kindly, no longer meeting her eyes, and patted her on the shoulder. “Yes, of course, my dear. Work hard in school, and it could happen. ” One evening, Catalina eyescanned the top of the observatory as usual. Suddenly she noticed the angle of the one- meter telescope was unusual. The telescope was pointed down, lower than she had ever seen it. Catalina learned from1 Papa how dangerous it would be. If left like it was, the telescope would move past its limit and be damaged. So without hesitation she got inside the observatory. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答词 She saw the Spanish scientist buried in work there. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________The scientist’s words meant a lot to her. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】She saw the Spanish scientist buried in work there. Catalina walked over to him and greeted him with a smile. To her surprise, he handed her a notebook and asked, “Would you like to help me record the data from the telescope?”Overwhelmed by excitement, Catalina nodded and began to assist the astronomer. The night passed quickly as they worked together, recording and analyzing the observations. Catalina couldn’t believe that she was working with a real astronomer, contributing to the scientific research she had always dreamed of. The scientist’s words meant a lot to her. “Work hard in school, and it could happen.” Catalina took these words to heart and worked diligently every day. She was determined to become an astronomer one day and nothing would stop her. Years passed, and after graduating from college, Catalina applied for a job at the Cerro Tololo observatory. To her delight, she was hired as an assistant astronomer, working alongside the same scientist who had encouraged her all those years ago. Finally, her childhood dream had become a reality, and Catalina knew that nothing was impossible as long as she kept chasing her dreams. 走向:walk over/walk up to ②. 递给:hand/pass ③.决心:be determined to /make up one’s mind to情绪类 ①.兴奋:excitement /thrill ②.高兴:delight/ pleasure/joy Writing 2 2.(2023•山东潍坊•统考一模)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完 整的短文。 High—school sports is the biggest thing that happens in our town of Verden, population six hundred. Sports are important in our family. Both of our sons were high—school athletes. So I shouldn’t have been surprised when Lauren announced she was going out for the girls’ basketball team, but I was because she has Down syndrome(唐 氏综合征). My wife and I never told Lauren that she was different, treating her like our other children. “I’m gonna play basketball, Daddy.” Lauren flew into my arms when I came in from work. “That’s nice, honey,” I replied automatically and patted her, figuring she meant outside—on the driveway. Walking into the kitchen, I met my wife Laura, whose frown indicated I’d missed something. Laura spoke slowly, her tone steady. “She meant she’s joining the girls’ high—school basketball team.” Just as her words sank in, I heard Lauren behind me. “I’m gonna be a Lady Tiger,” she yelled, skipping into the room and throwing her arms in the air. Everything that could happen flashed through my mind. I discussed Lauren’s announcement with my wife that evening and finally agreed. After all, there were only 11 girls, not everyone willing to play. The next afternoon, I parked in front of the school gymnasium. Inside, Coach Forsythe greeted us, “We’re glad Lauren came out for the team. She is not just a cheerleader!” Lauren stood alone at the other end of the court, shooting free throws. No other girl on the court grinned(咧嘴笑)like Lauren did, and after every shot, Lauren approvingly cried, “Woo hoo!”, seemingly not caring if she made the basket or not. Mid-November, the season’s first basketball game arrived. I settled into a seat with the rest of my family. The game got off to a good start, but soon Lady Tigers was behind. Lauren followed the movement on the court and reacted to every play. Even though Lauren wasn’t playing, she looked as if she were having the time of her life. I felt admiration for my daughter. Plus, her team was getting beat, yet she still enjoyed the action. Just less than two minutes left, and Lady Tigers was down by seventeen points. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。Still in high spirits, Lauren cheered for Lady Tigers off the court. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________ Then a teammate passed Lauren the ball. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________ 【答案】Still in high spirits, Lauren cheered for Lady Tigers off the court. Just at that time, Coach called a time- out. He walked over to Lauren and said something to her, then something to her teammates. In a minute, Lauren was in the game. My heart doubled its beat, watching wide-eyed. Just then, all across the stands, fans were on their feet clapping for Lauren. Our Lauren! Lauren kept pace with the others fairly well. The visitors scored again. With less than a minute left, Lady Tigers was controlling the ball. I saw the point guard shout and flash a signal to her teammates. Then a teammate passed Lauren the ball. She caught it and moved toward the goal. Amazingly, the opposing team did not block her. She shot. She scored! “Lauren, Lauren, Lauren,” chanted the cheerleaders. At length, Lady Tigers lost by seventeen points. Several minutes later, Lauren joined us, “Did you see? I made a basket!” For sixteen years, I’d tried hard to keep Lauren from feeling like she was different. But from this, I saw she really was different —not physically or emotionally, but spiritually. I wrapped my arms around her tightly. Lauren was different. And I was glad. 词汇激活 行为类 ①站立着:be on one’s feet/stand ②控制:control/be in control of ③使……不……:keep…from…/stop…from…/prevent…from… 情绪类 ①惊奇地:amazingly/surprisingly/marvelously ②开心:glad/cheerful/happy Writing 3 3.(2023•辽宁沈阳•统考一模)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完 整的短文。 In the Game “I’m gonna play basketball, Daddy.” My daughter, Lauren, whooped, skipping into the room. “There are only eleven girls in Verden, and everybody makes the team.” High-school sports is the biggest thing that happens in Verden, so I shouldn’t have been surprised when Lauren announced she was going out for the girls’ basketball teams—Lady Tiger. I watched Lauren doing warming-up in the court wide-eyed and my heart beat wildly. My wife took hold of my hand tightly and I knew she felt the same as I. The game restarted and Lauren kept pace with the others fairly well. Then something happened. They passed Lauren the ball. She caught it and dribbled toward the goal. Amazingly, the opposing team did not block her. She shot. She scored! Applause exploded. Lauren gave her teammates five, held her arms high and rushed to us to share her joy.“Did you see? Dad and Mum. I scored! I made a basket!” Hardly could Lauren control her excitement. Her eyes shone as she wiped sweat from her forehead. My wife and I threw our arms around each other, tears of happiness rolling down cheeks. For sixteen years, we had tried hard to prevent her from feeling like she was different. But watching Lauren enjoying herself in the game, I saw that my daughter was really different. She wasn’t like everyone else-not physically, but spiritually. 内心狂跳:heart beat wildly/heart was racing wildly ②.掌声响起:applause exploded/ applause burst out ③.紧紧地抱在一起:throw the arms around sb tightly/gather sb around the arms tightly 情绪类 ①.吃惊地:amazingly /astonishingly ②.流泪:teas rolling down/tears resting on her face Writing 4 4.(2023•广东汕头•统考一模)阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完 整的短文。 Tim had high respect for his father, Mike, who was also his teacher. With a burning sense of responsibility, Mike loved his job so much that he always went the extra mile. In the very early morning, Tim could always see Mike busy with breakfast for him. Later on, they went to school together to accompany the students to greet a new day of learning. At table, Mike exchanged what he knew inschool with Tim. Typically, Mike would always wear a shiny smile for the funny moments; frown for his students’ problems or challenges. At that moment, Tim did feel his father’s passion for the class. Having finished the housework and said goodnight to Tim, Mike, eventually, sat at his desk peacefully and buried himself in what he enjoyed. In the delicate light of a lamp, he made preparations for the next day, trying to make what students found boring in the textbook come to life. Sometimes, Mike worried Tim might be envious of the attention he gave to other children. However, Tim didn’t complain about it. Instead, he admired his dedication and love. It was one of the qualities that made Mike such a fantastic father. Tim liked making videos of activities in daily life, and kept his camera handy in case there was any opportunity to capture footage (捕捉片段). Also, he captured some of Mike’s. One weekend, Tim approached Mike’s room, hoping to get advice on making videos for the next class meeting themed Love, only to find Mike staring at the photos of his students on the wall, a little upset. “What happened?” Tim asked as he stepped into Mike’s room. “You know, some of your classmates recently have been rebellious (叛逆的). Despite discipline and heartfelt communications, they’re still breaking rules, skipping classes and complaining about my strictness. Though I could be demanding sometimes, I’m concerned about them. ” Mike sighed. Thinking of his upsetting classmates who couldn’t sense Mike’s efforts, Tim decided to try to do his part in helping Mike out in secret. He started looking for footage for the video, capturing every piece of footage he could use. These clips record Mike’s daily tasks for the children. With them, Tim searched for the rebellious children on the photo wall and quietly filmed Mike’s dedication and care for the children. These clips contain Mike’s heart communications, hard work, and most importantly, love. When the day came for the class meeting, Tim volunteered to play a video for the class. The students, along with Mike got surprised when the video came to an end. To Mike’s surprise, the rebellious students, those who broke school rules, often played truant and always complained about his strictness were full of tears. They stood up slowly, bowed deeply to Mike, and sincerely said “Mike, thank you for all your efforts for us.” Mike was so moved that he gave each of them a big hug. At that moment, Tim believed what had just happened was etched into each of their hearts. Because he was sure that Mike was not just a responsible teacher but a perfect father. 词汇激活 行为类 ①收集素材:capture footages/collect footages ②寻找:search for/seek for ③刻在心里:be etched into one’s heart/imprint in one’s heart 情绪类 ①感谢:thank you/show his gratitude/be grateful②哭:full of tears/burst into tears Writing 5 5.(2023•山西忻州•统考模拟预测)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一 篇完整的短文。 It had been a long, tiring day because 48-year-old taxi driver Carl had worked for 8 hours. He’d been picking up and dropping off passengers the whole day. He wanted to get home then, but he noticed a panicky (恐慌的)woman getting off a taxi with a child in her arms. “Why is she shouting at the driver?” Carl slowed down near them. He realized that the woman was begging the driver not to leave her there. The boy was having difficulty breathing, and his arms and legs were shaking uncontrollably. Carl realized the boy was having a seizure (疾病发作)and asked the woman to get into his taxi. Carl drove as fast as he could. The hospital was several miles away, so he had to race against time to save the boy. Meanwhile, he grew concerned about why the previous driver had dropped them off during such an emergency. The woman told Carl that she and her four-year-old son, Tyler, returned from the park. She told the driver she would pay him once she got home because she didn’t take her purse. But then her son suddenly had a seizure, so she asked the driver to take them to the hospital instead. But the driver refused. Half an hour later, they arrived at the hospital. Tyler was rushed inside for treatment as his mother waited outside the ward, crying. Carl was hungry and tired but stayed back. An hour later, the doctor said, “Tyler is out of danger now. But it could have been fatal (致命的)if you hadn’t made it here on time.” Mrs Thomas immediately looked at Carl and cried in tears, thanking Carl for saving her son’s life. Carl was glad Tyler was out of danger. Later, he dropped them off at home, and when Mrs Thomas came out to pay him, he refused. “I have a policy. NO FARES for those making trips to the hospital!” said Carl “I just did what any good human being would do. And please convey my regards to Tyler!” Thomas was moved by his kindness. He had developed health issues due to old age. He was going to the hospital for some tests. He was waiting outside his house when a taxi pulled over. Carl waved at the young driver. He got in and told the driver to drop him off at the hospital. The driver replied and continued driving. They didn’t talk much during the half-hour drive. Arriving at the hospital, Carl asked the driver how much he should pay. The driver said all the trips he made to the hospital were free. Carl was surprised and asked why. The driver smiled, “Because when I was little, I had seizure on the road, and a kind taxi driver drove me to the hospital for free and saved my life. My mother told me the driver never charged for trips to the hospital. His kindness inspired me, so I do the same!” Carl’s heart felt lighter and happier and asked the young man’s name. The driver said, “My name is Tyler.” Carl spoke no more, and tears of joy filled his eyes. 词类激活 行为类 ①停车:pull over/stop ②回答:reply/respond/answer ③到达:arrive at/reach/get to 情绪类 ①惊讶的:surprised/astonished ②激励:inspire/encourage ③高兴的:happy/delighted Writing 6 6.(2023•山东临沂•统考一模)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写一段,使之构成一篇完 整的短文。 Palm trees seemed to speed by the car window. Eight-year-old Katrina began to get nervous, the way she always did in new surroundings. She felt a thin shine of sweat above her lip in spite of the car’s cool air. “The aquarium won’t be crowded, I bet, and people are gonna notice me. I hate wearing this prosthesis leg (假肢).” She felt tears pinprick behind her eyes. “Not being normal is the worst.” Entering the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, around a comer of a tank, she noticed an animal that looked unusual. “Is that a dolphin with stump (假肢) instead of a tail?” she asked an aquarium staff. He nodded. “Yes, that’s Winter. She’s a very special dolphin.” “What happened to her?” “This girl dolphin was found off the coast of Florida, caught in a crab trap. The ropes from the trap cut off the blood circulation to her tail. So she lost her tail,” Katrina caught her breath. “She’s just like me. She’s just like me.” “But she struggled to survive. Now she wears a prosthetic tail part of the day to help her swim like a dolphin’s supposed to swim.” the staff continued, “Every day, Winter shows us anything is possible if we believe.” Katrina felt her heartstring was touched. She waved at Winter. Looking at Katrina, Winter raised her flipper (鳍), came to her and lifted her head. “She’s swimming right into my arms,” Katrina said tearfully. They made eye contact. She seemed to be speaking to Katrina: We’re the same. Back home, all Katrina talked about was Winter. For two weeks, she cried and begged her mother to take her back to Clearwater. Unfortunately, another blow hit Katrina. She fell on the hardwood floor at home and broke her other leg. Katrinawas in constant leg nerve pain. On arriving at Clearwater, Katrina can’t wait to see Winter, the lovely dolphin that comforted her and boosted her mood. As Katrina’s mother pushed the wheelchair to Winter, she raised her flipper, came to her and lifted her head. Katrina couldn’t hold back her excitement. Looking at the girl, Winter seemed to say “Go and take the surgery.” Katrina absolutely knew what that caring eyes were conveying, so she decided to keep a more optimistic state of mind. Finally came the day when Katrina was in the hospital again. Though feeling nervous and afraid of the pain the surgery might bring, Katrina would face it bravely. The operation was a success. Her mother took her to Clearwater the day she was discharged from hospital. Inspired by Winter’s swimming like a normal dolphin, Katrina practiced hard to walk. Her confidence has been improved as she gradually recovered. Katrina has no idea what the future holds but she will do anything to have a better look at this wonderful world. 词汇激活 行为类 ①表达:convey/express ②控制:hod back/ resist/ contain 情绪类 ①勇敢面对:face it bravely/face it courageously ②乐观的:optimistic/positive/upbeat Writing 7 7.(2023•山西•校联考模拟预测)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇 完整的短文。 It was a fantastic and cheery early summer day. The sun was shining brilliantly, with clouds dancing in the blue sky. The birds were singing merrily and the colourful flowers were in full bloom. There was a warm gentle breeze. Bright green leaves swung in the wind, occasionally falling to the ground, cast off from the trees they trusted. It was a lovely morning to be outdoors, to enjoy oneself in the splendid beauty of nature. There’s nothing quite as curative as being out in nature. Little Bear hated being locked at home. He wanted to go out to relieve his boredom. While his mother was busy with the daily domestic tasks, Little Bear slipped out through the backdoor. He was so eager for independence that he ignored his parents’ words and raced off into the woods near his home on his own.As he jogged along the winding path from his home, Little Bear felt like an adventurer. Soon, the stone path ended and he found himself in the forest. He had never been so far from home all by himself. As Little Bear explored the plants of different colors in the abundant green forest, the fear of being alone in the great outdoors began to wear off. He immediately began to regret his careless decision to escape from his parents. By afternoon, the sun was burning hot. Little Bear was weak from hunger and thirst. He felt tired and hungry. He longed for his mother’s cooking. He longed for his nice cosy bed. He longed to go home. Little Bear scanned the surroundings. Everything looked unfamiliar to him. He was lost! There was not a soul in sight from whom he could ask for directions. Little Bear sat on a rock, alone and depressed. He jumped up and followed his trail of paw prints, knowing that they would lead him out of the forest. Although the walk was long and he was feeling weary, Little Bear forced himself to go on. Finally, he found himself back on the winding footpath. Little Bear knew that this meant he was close to home. He made a final rush, eager to get home quickly. Before long, he saw his familiar wooden cottage. His mother was waiting outside with an anxious look on her face. Little Bear ran into the arms of his mother and hugged her tightly. He apologized for leaving the house withoutpermission. Overwhelmed with relief that her son had returned safe and sound, his mother did not punish him. After the dangerous experience of getting lost in the forest, Little Bear knew that he would not dare to venture out alone again. 词汇激活 行为类 ①带领:lead /guide ②奔:rush /dash ③道歉:apologize/make an apology 情绪类 ①担忧:anxious /worried/concerned ②积极:relief /feel relieved/a load off one’s mind Writing 8 8.(2023•安徽•统考一模)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的 短文。 My husband and I enjoy seeing life through the eyes of our children. It’s amazing to watch as they discover their world. While we were outdoors last summer enjoying the sunshine, our oldest daughter, Kaytlin, called me to the doorway. Beneath the steps was a baby red squirrel. We watched it from a distance, not wanting to disturb it or scare off its mother. But after a long wait—and looking all around our house for signs of a nest or a mother—we realized the tiny squirrel was lost. Shaking terribly, he was weak, thin, and hungry. We tried to find an expert to help, but the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife website showed that there were no wildlife experts in our area. After some quick research, we concludedthat the best way to give the squirrel a fighting chance was to care for him ourselves. So a trip to the local store for milk and supplies was in order. More research taught us how much to feed him, how to estimate his age, how and when to wean (断奶) him, and that we should let him go as soon as he could survive on his own. Our daughters and I took turns in feeding “Squirt.” Kaytlin took on the most responsibility. She taught him to eat from a bottle, and she woke in the night for his feeds. To our relief, Squirt soon became healthy and strong. Within a few weeks he became more active. He would chatter (吱吱叫) for his next meal, playfully go around the girls, and lie down on them for sleep. It wasn’t long before he was weaned onto solid food and reintroduced to the wild. His first few visits to the great outdoors were funny. Just like a child, he would play in the grass some and then run back to Kaytlin for safety. Soon she had him climbing trees and finding nest material. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 One day in the trees, Squirt met up with a family of gray squirrels. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________ One night, Squirt didn’t come back to our house and it rained hard. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 One day in the trees, Squirt met up with a family of gray squirrels. But the family was none too happy about his visit. They scolded and swatted at him. At first Squirt was so unhappy that he avoided them. And then he quickly learned some social skills. He would take some snacks to meet them. For several days he played all day in the trees surrounding our house but came down at bedtime. One night, Squirt didn’t come back to our house and it rained hard. Our girls fretted. They wanted to seek Squirt. We prevented them because it was too dangerous. But when the sun rose the next day, there was Squirt, begging forfood. And that remained the pattern for weeks. The experience was entertaining and heartwarming for our family. In the wild and somewhat silly moments of raising an orphaned baby squirrel, our children learned to value and appreciate life. 词汇激活 行为类 ①责骂:scold/blame/rebuke ②拍打:swat/slap/hit ③寻找:seek/find/look for/search for ④阻止:prevent/put a stop to/head off 情绪类 ①高兴的:happy/delighted ②有趣的:entertaining/delightful/engrossing Writing 9 9.(2023•山东菏泽•统考一模)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完 整的短文。 The gym teacher blew the whistle (哨子) and four students dived into the swimming pool, racing to the other side. When that day came, Ren stepped on the diving board and he kept calm and attentive. The gym teacher blew the whistle and this time Ren dived bravely. He swam to the other side with incredible speed and technique. Later in life I learned to attribute (把……归因于)this shortcoming to my creative genius, saying that my disorganization was simply the side of my unique gifts and talents. Yet, back at high school, I hadn’t come up with any impressive reasons for my big messes. As fate would have it, my teacher paired me with Kim as my roommate. I’m not sure why he stuck us together. I don’t think he could have possibly picked two more different people to room together. Kim was extremely organized. She labeled everything and each item she owned had its place. Well, I think my bits and pieces of paper, odds and ends (零碎物品) would find their ways into places automatically. And apparently, my roommate didn’t seem to be on the same page with me. As time went by, she got neater, while I got messier. She would complain about my dirty clothes. I would complain about Lysol (杀菌消毒剂) headaches. She would push gently my clothing over to one side and I would lay one of my books on her tidy desk. One October evening, things got ugly. Kim came into the room and lost her temper right away after seeing one of my shoes had found its way beneath her bed. She picked it up, cast it toward my side of the room angrily and managed to knock the layer of clothes onto the floor (by the way, I had planned to fold them later). I jumped off the bed and immediately started yelling about her rudeness. She yelled back, “Look at the mess you’ve made! When Kim hung up, she buried her face in her hands, her body shaking as she sobbed. Her dad was badly ill in hospital. Obviously, that was something she should not go through alone. I walked towards her and patted her on the back. Obviously, my pat was of little comfort. Instead, she threw herself onto the bed and cried into her pillow, sinking into her deep sorrow. Paragraph 2: I found myself lost for words and I decided to do something. I started to collect my odds and ends, clothes and shoes, swept the floor and tidied the table. I even cleaned her side. I was so absorbed that I didn’t even notice Kim stop crying and sit up staring at me in disbelief. I stepped towards her, saying softly, “It will be OK.” Kim reached her hand over to grasp mine, murmuring “Thank you?”. Suddenly, I realized the golden rule between friends was putting yourself into others’ shoes. 词汇激活 行为类 摇晃:shake/move back and forth/move involuntarily 哭泣:sob/cry/weep 步行:walk/step/go on foot 情绪类 悲伤:sorrow/sadness/misfortune 说不出话,不知所措:lost for words/at a lossWriting 1 (2022新高考I卷) 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 It was the day of the big cross-country run. Students from seven different primary schools in and around the small town were warming up and walking the route(路线)through thick evergreen forest. I looked around and finally spotted David, who was standing by himself off to the side by a fence. He was small for ten years old. His usual big toothy smile was absent today. I walked over and asked him why he wasn’t with the other children. He hesitated and then said he had decided not to run. What was wrong? He had worked so hard for this event! I quickly searched the crowd for the school’s coach and asked him what had happened. “I was afraid that kids from other schools would laugh at him,” he explained uncomfortably. “I gave him the choice to run or not, and let him decide.” I bit back my frustration(懊恼). I knew the coach meant well—he thought he was doing the right thing. After making sure that David could run if he wanted, I turned to find him coming towards me, his small body rocking from side to side as he swung his feet forward. David had a brain disease which prevented him from walking or running like other children, but at school his classmates thought of him as a regular kid. He always participated to the best of his ability in whatever they were doing. That was why none of the children thought it unusual that David had decided to join the cross-country team. It just took him longer—that’s all. David had not missed a single practice, and although he always finished his run long after the other children, he did always finish. As a special education teacher at the school, I was familiar with the challenges David faced and was proud of his strong determination. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答. We sat down next to each other, but David wouldn’t look at me. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________I watched as David moved up to the starting line with the other runners. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 We sat down next to each other, but David wouldn’t look at me. I said gently and quietly, “No one can change your mind, except yourself. If you desire to challenge yourself, there is nothing to do with others’ thoughts.” He sat still with a deep breath. “You have a full preparation before this event, which is the most important reason why you show up here”, I added with a sincere tone. Hearing my words, David turned to me tremblingly with tears spilling out of his eyes and expressed he had made a firm determination to finish the cross-country run. His coach heard what David said and gave me a look—the kind that was more determined than anyone else’s. I watched as David moved up to the starting line with the other runners. The race started. It seemed that the runway was extremely long for young children, not to mention a child with a heart disease. David insisted on running as if he had forgotten all his weaknesses, though he was tripped over within the a few kilometers. It didn’t take long before he picked himself up again and continued his mission. Classmates all appeared on the racing track, cheering for him. “Come on! You can make it! We are proud of you!” they shouted enthusiastically. To everyone’s joy, he reached the final line and ranked the 20th. It was no more important whether he won the first place or not. It was his brave heart and strong faith that could make something unusual happen finally. 词汇激活: 行动类: ①深呼吸:with a deep breath/breathe deeply ②坚持做:insisted on doing/be stick to doing 情绪类: ①热情:enthusiastically /with great passion ②骄傲:be proud of/take pride in Writing 2 (2022浙江1月卷) 阅读下面短文, 根据所给情节进行续写, 使之构成一个完整的故事 When Dr. Henderson was assigning(指定) project mates for his psychology class, I secretly hoped he would pair me with my best friend or at least a classmate I could have some fun with. Above all, I hoped he wouldn't assign me to work with the fiercely competitive, extremely serious fellow who always wore dark clothes and apparently had a personality to match. As fate (命运)would have it, Dr. Henderson very deliberately matched everyone in class and announced that I would be working with the one person in class I wanted to avoid. I went up to my new teammate and introduced myself. He looked at me as though I weren't there. I felt he treated me as though I would hold him back and probably make him fail to get an A in the course. He wasn't mean or abusive; he just gave me the impression he could do whatever project we dreamed up better if he did it alone. Needless to say, I didn't look forward to an entire term of being brushed off, but I tried to make the best of it and didn't say anything for fear that I would make things worse. The project required each team to develop a hypothesis (假说), set up an experiment to test the hypothesis, do the statistical analysis and present the findings. Whatever grade the team received would be shared by both students. When my teammate and I met to discuss our project, I was uneasy. Here was this challenging student who had a reputation for single-mindedness and good grades—the exact opposite of me. I was outmatched. I actually wanted to drop the class at one point, but stopped short because I didn't want to give him the satisfaction of my chickening out. I decided to stick to it no matter what. After long discussions we somehow agreed to do a study on the psychological well-being of teenagers. I wasn't sure what it meant exactly, but at least we had a topic. 注意: 1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;2. 至少使用5个短文中标有下划线的关键词语; 3. 结部分分为两段, 每段的开头语已为你写好; 4. 续写完成后, 请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。 Para 1. We started to meet regularly to draw up our plans. ______________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Para 2. One day I got word that he was admitted to hospital for a serious disease. ___________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 We started to meet regularly to draw up our plans. Though I wanted to share my ideas with him fully, I failed to do so for fear that I would hold him back. I just kept nodding when he asked me whether it is ok to do this way or that way. I thought it was impossible to persuade him into accepting my views, so I didn’t want to waste our time to discuss. I started to wait to leave immediately we arrived at the place, and so did he. I just hoped that the presentation day could come earlier. One day I got word that he was admitted to hospital for a serious disease. I felt so sorry to hear that and I thought I should visit him in any case. He was a little surprised to see me when I stepped into his ward with some flowers and fruits. I offered to do the rest work of our project and he invited me to share my ideas to perfect it. We began to work as a fine team and finally finished our project on time. Our hard work paid off and Dr. Henderson’s was very satisfied with our wonderful findings. From this project, we also learned the significance of teammates. Just as the saying goes, one person can go far, but a group of persons can travel farther. 分享:share sth with sb / exchange sth with sb ②没能做:fail to do/be unable to do /not make it ③到达:arrived at /get to /reach/ ④走进:step into/enter/come into 情绪类 ①惊讶的:surprised/amazed/shocked ②满意的:satisfied /content/ pleased Writing3 (2018浙江6月卷)It was summer, and my dad wanted to treat me to a vacation like never before. He decided to take me on a trip to the Wild West. We took a plane to Albuquerque, a big city in the state of New Mexico. We reached Albuquerque in the late afternoon. Uncle Paul, my dad’s friend, picked us up from the airport and drove us up to his farm in Pecos. His wife Tina cooked us a delicious dinner and we got to know his sons Ryan and Kyle. My dad and I spent the night in the guestroom of the farm house listening to the frogs and water rolling down the river nearby. Very early in the morning, Uncle Paul woke us up to have breakfast. "The day starts at dawn on my farm," he said. After breakfast, I went to help Aunt Tina feed the chickens. while my dad went with Uncle Paul to take the sheep out to graze(吃草). I was impressed to see my dad and Uncle Paul riding horses. They looked really cool. In the afternoon, I asked Uncle Paul if I could take a horse ride, and he said yes, as long as my dad went with me. I wasn’t going to take a horse ride by myself anyway. So, my dad and I put on our new cowboy hats, got on our horses, and headed slowly towards the mountains. "Don’t be late for supper," Uncle Paul cried, "and keep to the track so that you don’t get lost!" "OK! " my dad cried back. After a while Uncle Paul and his farm house were out of sight. It was so peaceful and quiet and the colors of the brown rocks, the deep green pine trees, and the late afternoon sun mixed to create a magic scene. It looked like a beautiful woven(编织的)blanket spread out upon the ground just for us. Paragraph1: Suddenly a little rabbit jumped out in front of my horse. Its abrupt appearance scared my horse, making it run off the track wildly. I spared no efforts to hold on as hard as I could and my dad wastrying to keep up, extremely worried about my safety. Fortunately, minutes later, the horse stopped before a river, out of breath. Relieved, we looked around trying to find the track. However, it was nowhere to be found. So aimlessly did the frightened horse run that we got lost unconsciously. Paragraph2: We had no idea where we were and it got dark. Nothing in sight was familiar and neither did we know where the farm house was. Just at the point of desperation, from the distance came a faint voice. “It must be Uncle Paul,” I exclaimed excitedly. That we didn’t come back for dinner made him realize something unusual might have happened. So my uncle went out to look for us. Finally, we reached our uncle’s farm house safe and sound.
