On a bright, warm July afternoon, Mac Hollan, a primary school teacher, was cycling from his home to Alaska with his friends . One of his friends had stopped to make a bicycle repair, but they had encouraged Mac to carry on, and they would catch up with him soon. As Mac pedaled (骑行) along alone, he thought fondly of his wife and two young daughters at home . He hoped to show them this beautiful place someday. Then Mac heard quick and loud breathing behind him. “Man, that’s a big dog!” he thought. But when he looked to the side, he saw instantly that it wasn’t a dog at all, but a wolf , quickly catching up with him. Mac’s heart jumped . He found out his can of bear spray. With one hand on the bars, he fired the spray at the wolf. A bright red cloud enveloped the animal, and to Mac’s relief, it fell back, shaking its head. But a minute later, it was by his side again. Then it attacked the back of Mac’s bike, tearing open his tent bag. He fired at the wolf a second time, and again, it fell back only to quickly restart the chase (追赶). Mac was pedaling hard now. He waved and yelled at passing cars but was careful not to slow down. He saw a steep uphill climb before him. He knew that once he hit the hill, he’d be easy caught up and the wolf’s teeth would be tearing into his flesh. At this moment, Paul and Becky were driving their car on their way to Alaska. They didn’t think much of it when they saw two cyclists repairing their bike on the side of the road. A bit later, they spotted what they, too, assumed was a dog running alongside a man on a bike. As they got closer, they realized that the dog was a wolf. Mac heard a large vehicle behind him. He pulled in front of it as the wolf was catching up fast, just a dozen yards away now. Paragraph1: The car abruptly stopped in front of him. Paragraph2: After minutes later, the other two cyclists arrived. She felt really nervous and…" Pumpkin (南瓜) carving at Halloween is a family tradition. We visit a local farm every October. In the pumpkin field, I compete with my three brothers and sister to seek out the biggest pumpkin. My dad has a rule that we have to carry our pumpkins back home, and as the eldest child I have an advantage-I carried an 85-pounder back last year. This year, it was hard to tell whether my prize or the one chosen by my 14-year-old brother, Jason, was the winner. Unfortunately we forgot to weigh them before taking out their insides, but I was determined to prove my point. All of us were hard at work at the kitchen table, with my mom filming the annual event. I’m unsure now why I thought forcing my head inside the pumpkin would settle the matter, but it seemed to make perfect sense at the time. With the pumpkin resting on the table, hole uppermost, I bent over and pressed my head against the opening. At first I got jammed just above my eyes and then, as I went on with my task, unwilling to quit, my nose brieflyprevented entry. Finally I managed to put my whole head into it, like a cork (软木塞) forced into a bottle. I was able to straighten up with the huge pumpkin resting on my shoulders. My excitement was short-lived. The pumpkin was heavy. “I’m going to set it down, now,” I said, and with Jason helping to support its weight,I bent back over the table to give it somewhere to rest. It was only when I tried to remove my head that I realized getting out was going to be less straightforward than getting in. When I pulled hard, my nose got in the way. I got into a panic as I pressed firmly against the table and moved my head around trying to find the right angle, but it was no use. “I can’t get it out!” I shouted, my voice sounding unnaturally loud in the enclosed space. 注意: 1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右; 2. 至少使用5个短文中标有下划线的关键词语; 3. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好; 4. 续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。 Paragraph 1 It was five or six minutes though it felt much longer. ______________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2 The video was posted the Monday before Halloween. _____________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1 It was five or six minutes though it felt much longer. Dad was summoned – less, it seemed, in expectation of practical help than to make sure he didn’t miss out on the spectacle. I heard him propose calling the fire department. “Stay tuned,” said Mom; she’d mentioned she was going to upload the video to Facebook, but it was only then Irealized she’d been filming the whole time. The video cuts before my rescue —Dad got me to push my head farther into the pumpkin so Mom could reach in and undo the rubber band round my ponytail. I emerged with squash-conditioned hair, a sore chin and my nose plugged with pulp. Paragraph 2 The video was posted the Monday before Halloween. By the end of that day, it had over 1,000 views. People asked Mom to put it on YouTube, and by Wednesday morning we were getting 5:00 am calls from TV breakfast shows and then the international media – the video started racking up hundreds of thousands of views. When I went on a youth camp, I was recognized by children I’d never met. The pumpkin also became a minor celebrity. Passersby and trick-or-treaters would knock and ask, “Which is Rachel’s pumpkin?” before taking selfies with it. 词汇激活 行为类 确保:make sure / guarantee 打算做某事:be going to do sth./ intend to do sth. 一阵... 2.joy/excitement/pride/anger/rage/panic/terror/sorrow/sadness/grief/embarrassment/dispointment/guilt/shame...) 3. I was excited for the weekend, when my daughter, Kristil, then 12, and I planned to get our Christmas tree. Then I listened to my voicemail. “We’re sorry, but your work assignment has ended as of today.” My heart sank. My paycheck was survival, I did everything I could to give Kristil a good life, but there were some things my love couldn’t fix. The next day as we searched for our tree, I struggled to be cheerful as I eyed the Christmas tree prices. Kristil noticed I was worried and I told her I had lost my job. She wanted to give me the $100 that Grandma gave her, but I refused. Monday morning, I dropped Kristil at school and set off on my money-making pursuits. I headed to the pawnshop (当铺) with a gold ring my mother had given me, and they gave me $70. Next was the antiques store. I sold six Precious Moments statuettes for $150. I ended the day $220 richer. Over the next week, I furiously (猛烈地) applied for jobs as my bank account grew smaller. I felt as if the world was closing in on me. On a weekend afternoon, I dropped Kristil in a wealthy gated community for a birthday party. I drove home defeated. Back at home, I glanced out the window. It had been snowing all morning. I noticed a small woman struggling to open her car door against the wind. As she got out, I realized it was my old professor, Sister Esther. I hadn’t seen her since we’d met for lunch three months ago. I’d first met Sister Esther 10 years earlier, when I was her student at Edgewood College. After I graduated, Sister Esther kept in touch, meeting me for lunch every few months. I had grown to love her like family. I rushed to the front of my building. “What are you doing out in this weather?” I asked as we hugged. 注意:(1)续写词数应为150左右; (2)开头已给出。 Sister Esther said she called my office and knew I wasn’t working there anymore, so she came to see me. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________ When I opened the Christmas card she gave me, I was shocked at an unexpected gift. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Sister Esther said she called my office and knew I wasn’t working there anymore, so she came to see me. I gave her a warm welcome and led her into my room. Upon arriving, she told me urgently, “Hearing the news that you were fired from the work, I felt greatly worried. I know you are raising a big family and bearing a large life financial pressure. So I come here and give the gifts for you and Kristil.” She said as she kissed me on the cheek. While saying, she handed me a big package and a Christmas card. (71) When I opened the Christmas card she gave me, I was shocked at an unexpected gift. Into the package placed a doll and a large envelop. I tore the envelop carefully and hundred-dollar bills poured onto the floor. Tears of gratitude puddled in my eyes as I picked up the precious gift, which could help me get through the tough time and buy the Christmas tree that I promised to give my daughter. Feeling gratitude, I hugged Sister Esther tightly and thanker her sincerely. (68) Writing 1 11.(2023•广东佛山•统考一模)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇 完整的短文。 I ran after the train, shouting, “Hey mister, can’t you see me?” It was hopeless, as no conductor is going to slow down for a 60-year-old man who got to the station several minutes late. They absolutely didn’t know how importantthat day, that train ride was to me! I was on my way to an interview for what could have been the opportunity of a lifetime. I threw both my hat and my art case down in depression, and sat down on the nearest chair, wiping (擦掉) the sweat from my face and breathing heavily. I would have to wait a whole day for the next train, and by then my appointment with the gallery owner would have given up on me. Perhaps it was for the best. It was, after all, the first time in 40 years anyone had shown such an interest in my art. Maybe if the gallery owner had seen all my paintings, he would have changed his mind about offering me space on his walls. Disappointment filled my soul. Should I dial the gallery and get an interview on a different day? But Pierre Gianni was the owner of the most well-known gallery in New York City. Why would he give a rare second chance to an elderly nobody when he had the newest, coolest young artists to choose from? Come to think of it, perhaps these insecurities were the very reason I had never been offered a show before. I was too afraid to try. I found countless excuses not to offer my work up to be seen and perhaps criticized. I told myself it would hurt too much if I failed, but the truth was that I had never tried. Finally, I gathered all my courage to dial the gallery, only to find my antique cell phone had broken down. It was at the very moment that I was in total despair and decided to go home. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Suddenly I felt a touch on my shoulder. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________ The next morning I got to the gallery on time. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________【答案】参考范文 Paragraph 1: Suddenly I felt a touch on my shoulder. I turned around and saw an old man smiling gently at me. He told me that he had noticed the trouble which I was in and offered to lend me his phone. I wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude to him but words got stuck in my throat. Taking the phone he passed to me, I managed to collect myself and plucked up my courage to dial Pierre. After what seemed like an eternity, the phone was picked up. To my great relief, Pierre agreed to postpone the interview. Paragraph 2: The next morning I got to the gallery on time. I was staring at its grandeur when Pierre approached and welcomed me warmly. Several minutes later, with trembling hands I opened my art case and showed him my paintings one by one. Pierre fixed his eyes on my works with interest, listening to me attentively. Time ticking by, I grew more and more confident and excited. He loved my works! They were scheduled to be exhibited one month later! I was never more certain that what seems far beyond is simply a leap away if you dare to give it a try. 词汇激活 行为类 ①推迟:postpone/put off ②到达:get to/reach/arrive at ③流逝:tick by/pass/go by 情绪类 ①感谢:express my gratitude /show my appreciation /be grateful②激动的:excited/thrilled Writing 2 12.(2023•安徽宿州•统考一模)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇 完整的短文。 Owing to the spread of COVID-19, visiting loved ones has become something seemingly impossible. Even so, when 9-year-old Romeo Cox decided what he wanted more than anything else was a hug from his 77- year-old grandmother, he didn’t let any small things, like separation, or that she was 1,700 miles away and there were no flights from his new home in Sicily to his native UK, stop him from making the trip. “I hadn’t seen Granny for ages, so I planned secretly to go see her,” Romeo said in an interview with the Times. His parents disagreed at first, but Romeo finally talked them into letting him make the trip. With his folks’ blessing, Romeo turned his plans into action. “I drew a map. I would walk and take boats,” he told the Times. “And I’d take Dad. It would be handy to have an adult.” Handy indeed, since Romeo’s father, 46-year-old Phil Cox, is a retired journalist and filmmaker whose rich experiences gave him invaluable knowledge about making the way in less than ideal conditions. Romeo and Phil set off on their journey on June 20. The pair trekked (跋涉) across Italy, Switzerland, and France. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: While travelling, the two did meet some hardships or danger. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: On September 21, father and son finally made it to Grandma Rosemary’s home. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文: Paragraph 1: While travelling, the two did meet some hardships or danger. They were forced to avoid wild dogs, got lost a time or two, suffered sore feet, and befriended a wild donkey, but no matter how unusual the conditions were, they just kept going. Romeo wanted nothing but a hug from his 77-year-old grandma, which motivated and inspired him greatly on the journey. Paragraph 2: On September 21, father and son finally made it to Grandma Rosemary’s home in London. When Grandma’s house eventually came in sight, Romeo burst into a joyful run that ended in the embrace he’d so longed for. Grandma didn’t believe her grandson’s unbelievable journey at first. But more than anything else, her heart was filled with love and gratitude. “Children can inspire us and lift us all up. On behalf of all the grannies in all the world, I want to thank Romeo and hug him and kiss him a lot,” she told the Times. 做朋友:befriended.../make friends with... ②继续前进:keep going/move on ③渴望:long for/be dying for 情绪类 ①感激:gratitude/appreciation ②高兴的:joyful/cheerful Writing 313.(2023•黑龙江大庆•统考二模)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一 篇完整的短文。 I remember one Thanksgiving when our family had no money or food, and someone came knocking on our door. A man was standing there with a huge box of food and even some pans to cook it in. The stranger announced, “I’m here because a friend of yours knows you’re in need and that you wouldn’t accept direct help, so I’ve brought this for you. Have a great Thanksgiving.” Obviously that experience had a great impact on my life. I promised myself that someday I would do well financially so that I could do the same thing. By the time I was 18, I had created my Thanksgiving routine. I would go out shopping and buy enough food for one or two families. Then I would dress like a delivery boy, go to the poorest neighborhood and just knock on a door. I have received more from this than I have from any amount of money I’ve ever earned. Several years ago, I was in New York City with my wife during Thanksgiving. When I told her what I always do on Thanksgiving, she got excited. I said, “Let’s go someplace where we can really appreciate who we are. How about Harlem?” Some of my colleagues also joined us. I suggested we start by getting a van (面包车) to drive us to Harlem. We tried waiting by the light, went over and knocked on the window and the driver would roll it down, and I’d say, “Today is Thanksgiving. Would you be willing to drive us to Harlem to feed some people?” Every time the driver would look away quickly and pull away without saying anything. Eventually we got better at asking. We’d say, “Today is Thanksgiving. We’d like to help some less fortunate people, and we’re curious if you’d be willing to drive us to an area in our mind.” That seemed slightly more effective but still didn’t work. Then we started offering people $100 to drive us. That got us even closer, but when we told them to take us to Harlem, they said no and drove off. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 We had talked to about two dozen people who all said no. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ We climbed into the perfect van with great joy. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: We had talked to about two dozen people who all said no. My partners were ready to give up, but I said optimistically, “Somebody is bound to say yes.” Sure enough, the perfect van drove up. It was perfect because it was extra big and would accommodate all of us. We went up, knocked on the window and asked the driver, “Could you take us to a disadvantaged area to help the less fortunate? We’ll pay you 100 dollars.” The driver said, “You don’t have to pay me. I’d be delighted to take you anywhere.” We climbed into the perfect van with great joy. The driver said, “I’m curious why you people want to do this. May I ask why?” I told him my story and that I wanted to show gratitude by providing something back. Upon arrival, we entered a store where we packed enough supplies for seven families for 30 days. Then we went out to start feeding people. We even encountered a case where half a dozen people lived in one room. It was both an astonishing realization that people lived this way and a truly fulfilling experience to make even a small difference. 放弃:give up/quit ②.帮助:help/ assist/do sb. a favor ③.有影响:make a difference / have an influence 情绪类 ①.感谢:show gratitude / show one’s appreciation /be grateful ②.高兴的:delighted /with pleasure Writing 4 14.(2023•安徽蚌埠•统考二模)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇 完整的短文。 Raj learns a lesson Raj is a middle-aged man. Although he was born in a poor family, he was raised well by his father and mother. His father owned a welding (焊接) shop, and used to work for more than 12 hours a day, so that his family could lead a comfortable life. However, Raj’s father could not earn sufficient money to provide a decent life to his family. Raj was an average student in school, and used to score around 70 percent marks. Raj’s dream was to become a doctor. Since his marks weren’t very high, he could not get the desired course that he wanted to study. Instead, he joined a bachelor’s degree course, completed the course successfully, and got a job in a company. In order not to depend on Raj, his father continued to work in his shop. After getting a permanent job, Raj’s parents wanted him to marry. He got married to a girl from his native town, and meanwhile was promoted in his job. After a few years, his wife gave birth to beautiful twin boys. Later, Raj began to earn a handsome salary, and started to live luxuriously. He bought a new house and a new car. Some of the luxuries were really unnecessary. Almost 6 to 7 years later, Raj was neither able to manage all the household expenses, nor pay for the children’s education and other basic necessities. It so happened that Raj’s father fell sick, and as a result, could not continue his work. He requested Raj to give some money for his treatment and other household expenses. Raj, who was already suffering from financial crisis, not only shouted at his parents but also complained to his parents, “You never give me what I needed and wanted and it took me more than 10 years to get settled. Now, while I am again struggling for money, you are not doing anything to help me, but instead are a burden to me! So, please don’t come to me again.” His parents were left shocked. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 After a week, while Raj was on an official tour, he met a small boy aged about 10 years selling toys. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________ Raj purchased a few toys from the little boy. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________ 【答案】 After a week, while on an official tour, he met a small boy aged about 10 years selling toys. The boy requested Raj to buy something. Raj asked the boy why he was selling toys instead of studying. The boy replied, “My father met with an accident a year ago and he lost one hand. He cannot work now. My mother works as a maid in a few houses. I have no choice but to help my parents by selling these toys. I go to school in the morning, and sell toys in the evenings. I work for 3 hours a day and study at night!” Raj purchased a few toys from the little boy. He thought about what the boy had said. He realized that he had been wrong in the way he treated his parents. He had learnt a lesson from the small boy. Today was the best day of the year for him. Nat loved to play tricks, and today was April Fools’ Day. Some of Nat’s tricks were big hits. Last year, he short-sheeted his sister’s bed. She couldn’t understand what was going on and started to think that her legs must have grown much longer during the day. When she realized what had happened, she laughed her head off. Some of Nat’s tricks were not so successful. Mom didn’t think finding a furry toy mouse in the fridge was humorous at all. After she calmed down a bit, she said, “That’s it! There’s a ban on Nat tricks for two weeks.” Nat was also the class clown. He was always making jokes in class. He liked it when he made the other kids laugh. Since it was April Fools’ Day, he felt like he had to come up with something really good to provide his classmates with some really good entertainment. For that, Nat thought long and hard before he came up with his brilliant idea. He bought two toy frogs which were made out of green plastic and looked very realistic. Nat knew just the trick he would play on his classmates. Nat arrived at school early. To succeed in his plan, he needed to get into the classroom before anyone else. Nat’s class had a rainforest terrarium (饲养皿). It had plants, insects, and three frogs in it. Nat’s idea was to pretend that the frogs had escaped. He knew that Ms. Lopez, his teacher, wasn’t afraid of frogs but several of his classmates, including himself, were. Nat slipped into the classroom. Good! There was nobody here. He put one of the toy frogs on the floor, near the terrarium and the other on his friend Stacey’s desk. Nat knew that Stacey really didn’t not like frogs. Also, she played a great trick on him last April Fools’ Day. To make his trick more convincing, Nat pushed the lid of the terrarium open. Then he rushed off to morning gathering. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右: 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 When the students got back to class, no one noticed the toy frogs at first. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________ Nat realized that he had opened the lid of the terrarium. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】one possible version When the students got back to class, no one noticed the frogs at first. Then Stacey, who finally noticed the frog, screamed and pointed at her desk. The whole class exploded. A couple of other kids leapt out of their seats and shrieked while the rest were laughing and banging their desks. Nat was feeling very pleased with himself. His trick was definitely a success. But he knew he had to hide his glee. He pretended that he was working and reached out for a piece of paper. It was then that something cold and wet slithered past his fingers. It was a frog-a real one! Nat realized that he had opened the terrarium. Suddenly, there came a loud croak from under his chair. Nat almost jumped out of his skin with fright. Now he became the laughingstock of the class. What scared him even more was the only person who remained serious-Ms. Lopez. She calmly walked down the aisle, scooped up the frog and put it back into the terrarium. Then she came to Nat’s side, seemingly waiting for his confession. Nat felt his face burningand apologized to Ms Lopez. He also promised to be considerate from then on. 知道:know/be aware of 情绪类 ①.满意的:pleased / satisfied ②.喜悦:glee / pleasure/joy Writing 6 16.(2023•广东梅州•统考一模)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇 完整的短文。 Tom’s family was a small family on the coastal line of a small village. Maya’s class was going to make cards for the seniors living in a nursing home. It was also the first day Maya would be wearing her leg brace (腿支架) to school, which was designed to help her walk more steadily and smoothly. It was a cold autumn morning, Maya looked down, feeling embarrassed. To make it lovelier, she had delicately decorated the brace with pretty butterfly patterns. Still, she was unsure about others’ reaction. All morning at school, kids kept glancing at her brace. To her relief, they didn’t say anything. In the classroom, Maya was drawing little green buds (芽) and pretty flowers when her friend Samir came over and sat by her. She felt his eyes fixed on her brace and heard him asking, “What’s that for?” Not knowing what to say, Maya pretended she didn’t hear him. After a few seconds of awkwardness, she glanced back at him, and found that he looked a little sad. After lunch, the class set off. The nursing home was on a small hill and all of them walked there happily along the path. Maya found that the brace did make it easier for her to walk up. Maya and Samir were paired up with a lady who was 83 years old. There at the end of the hall in a wheelchair, with a big smile on her face, sat the lady, wearing a pink coat, with red lipstick and beautiful earrings. She looked bright and full of life. Moving flexibly and fast towards Maya and Samir, she greeted first. “I’m Joan, ” she said cheerfully, “Glad to meet you. ” Maya and Samir handed her the cards they made. Joan looked at Samir’s card carefully and spoke with admiration, “You’ve written a poem! That’s so artistic!” Samir’s face reddened with shyness. Then Joan turned to Maya’s picture. “The first flowers of spring!” she cried in delight. “You really have a gift for using colour!” she said. Clearly, Joan’s praise added great power into Maya. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 In a sudden wave of bravery, Maya asked, “What’s it like being in a wheelchair?” ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________Deeply impressed by Joan, Maya offered to sit beside Samir on the bus ride back home. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 In a sudden wave of bravery Maya asked, “What’s it like being in a wheelchair?” “It helps me get around,” Joan said simply. Then, grinning, she added, “You’d be surprised at how fast I can go in this thing!” Right then, she moved the wheelchair across the room, turning around, back and forth. And what surprised Maya most was that she didn’t detect any pity or embarrassment from her. Then Maya looked up and found Joan was smiling, eyes purposefully resting on her brace. It was then that a spark of power was lit up deep inside Maya. That afternoon, the three of them had a pleasant talk over lots of things until it was dusk. Deeply impressed by Joan, Maya offered to sit beside Samir on the bus ride back home. “Joan is great. I like her.” Samir admired. Maya nodded, lost in thought. With Joan’s wheelchair and smile in mind, she summoned up her courage and said, “The brace keeps my toe up so I can walk better.” “Really?” Samir looked amazed, reached out and touched it gently. “That’s super cool!” His words were so sincere that Maya felt warm and moved. It was a reaction that she expected deep inside her heart. Though it was autumn outside, it felt like spring for Maya. A little green bud was bursting—she and her brace looked cool, beautiful and dynamic in her and others’ eyes. 鼓足勇气:summon up one’s courage / muster (up) one's courage ③.期待:expect/look forward to 情绪类 ①.惊讶的:amazed /surprised ②.真诚的:sincere/ genuine Writing 8 18.(2023•湖南株洲•统考一模)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇 完整的短文。 NEVER STOP WALKING When Justin was 7, he suffered from a disease that led to problems with the development of his back. Justin could not control his wheelchair and play the trumpet at the same time. The band director put forward an idea of one student pushing Justin during his marches. Tom immediately volunteered even though it meant he had to give up the opportunity to play his own instrument during the parade.“I do it just to make sure Justin knows that he always has a place in the band, and he always will,“ Tom said to their director secretly. From then on, the two practiced together, one playing the instrument and the other pushing the wheelchair with the rhythm of the music. To help Justin, Tom sacrificed (牺牲) far beyond expectation. Apart from losing the chance to perform, he needed to spare more time to take care of Justin and even missed his football training several times. All of these were seen by Justin and the burden of guilt weighed heavily on his mind.“I can’t meet my own needs at the sacrifice of Tom’schance. It is time to find a solution.” Justin thought to himself as his mother pushed him on the way home. His mother lowered her head and said,“Justin, play me your new tune.” Justin took out his trumpet and was about to play when an excellent idea came to him. 注意: 1.续写司数立カ150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相座位置作答。 He turned around to ask his mother for help. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________ Thanksgiving finally came, as did Justin and mom’s performance. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Possible version He turned around to ask his mother for help. “Mom, could you please push me in the Thanksgiving Day Parade instead of Tom? He gave up his chance of performing to assist me.” Justin looked up at his mother, eagerly awaiting her reply. “Sure, my dear!” Mom bent and kissed his forehead. “I’m happy to join you and witness every moment of your growth.” Justin grinned from ear to ear with the huge load off his mind. With Mom’s participation, the practice went smoothly and joyfully, every member, Justin and Tom included, having a place in the performance and playing their part intently in preparation for the big day. Thanksgiving finally came, as did Justin and mom’s performance. Dressed in the same performing suit, mom pushed Justin proudly with a bright smile on her face as Justin threw himself heart and soul into the performance. Joyful music floating in the air, the mother and son were indeed a perfect match in the parade, which soon became the center of attention. The entire audience broke into thunderous applause, not only for the whole band’s performance, but also for the love between Justin and his mother. Sometimes one person may not walk, but loveand assistance can help go anywhere. 词汇激活 行为类 ①帮助:assist/help/support ②放弃:give up/abandon ③见证:witness/see/observe ④变成:become/turn into/develop into 情绪类 ①热切地:eagerly/ardently/fervently ②高兴:happy/glad/pleasant Writing 9 19.(2023•广东广州•统考二模)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇 完整的短文。 Gifts for the poor Mrs. Susan was mean and bad-tempered. There was no other way to describe her. Just the other day I heard her telling the headmaster that children took too much time in arts. She even said that most of us didn’t understand what we were doing. I left the office feeling very angry. My anger didn’t last, however. It was December and Christmas was approaching. Excitement filled me right up to the top of my head. I smiled and laughed, singing “Jingle Bells” as we rode home from school. After dinner, Mom and Dad called me into the family room. I knew what we were going to discuss. Every year for as long as I could remember, we had chosen a family who needed some extra help at Christmastime, and we hadtaken gifts and food to their house. It was one of our family’s favorite traditions. Dad said, “It’s time we decide which family to help this year. Do you have a suggestion?” Some years it had been really easy to decide, but this year I couldn’t think of anyone. Dad looked at Mom. “Maybe Mom has a suggestion. Sometimes she notices things the rest of us miss.” Mom smiled. “I do know of someone who needs our help. I think we should help Mrs. Susan.” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing! “But, Mom,” I protested, “she seems to have plenty of money and she dresses in nice clothes. Besides, she’s really bad-tempered. She doesn’t even like kids. She might even kick our gifts off her porch (门廊). I think we should choose someone else.” “I know Mrs. Susan has enough money,” Mom said. “I know she isn’t very pleasant to be around. But she was divorced before she moved here. She has three children who have their own children and never come to see her. She is very lonely and unhappy. You see, she never celebrates Christmas. April, you weren’t quite right when you said she wasn’t poor.” “You mean she’s poor in love?” I asked. “Yes. Sometimes it’s much more painful to be poor in love than it is to be poor in money?” I was quiet for minutes. Then Dad said, “Let’s take a vote.” Dad’ and Mom’s hands went up. Looking at them, I unwillingly raised mine. 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Mom said besides buying her a gift, we should make something by hand. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________ With the box in hand, I could feel my heart pounding when ringing Susan’s doorbell. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Mom said besides buying her a gift, we should make something by hand. Reminded by my mother, I spent a long time making a gift and writing some Christmas wishes. I wrapped the gift carefully and put itin a beautiful box. On the top of the box I tied a bright red bow. Time flowed. When I finished all the preparations, my heart was full of excitement. On Christmas Day, my family and I went to Susan's door. With the box in hand, I could feel my heart pounding when ringing Susan’s doorbell. Ms. Susan was so surprised that her jaw dropped when she saw us. I said with great joy, “Merry Christmas! Here’s a present for you, Ms. Susan!” With great gratitude, Ms. Susan invited us in and opened my gift box. It’s a picture I made myself, which was about Ms. Susan reuniting with her family. She was so excited that she burst into tears and suddenly hugged me in her arms, sobbing, “This is the most meaningful gift I have ever received, and the most unforgettable Christmas I have ever had!” 系:tie/attach ②.拥抱:hug sb./gather sb. in the arms 情绪类 ①.激动:excitement/thrill ②.哭泣:sob/with tears rolling down Writing 10 20.(2023•安徽合肥•统考一模)阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完 整的短文。 Sam, Wayne and Tim were three men in their 60s, jamming in the same dusty old garage where they used to play music when they were in high school. They chatted up after ages, remembering the school days when they would take to the stage and play together as a band.Wayne looked around, wide-eyed. “It’s been more than 40 years since we practised here.” “Yes! And remember how we promised to keep in touch and play together once a week?” Tim laughed. “Sam, remember our brilliant plans?” “Ah yes! We thought we were inseparable! Now, look at us! Old and wrinkled, joints hurting, meeting at each other’s grandkids’ weddings… we’re terrible at keeping in touch, except Will, of course. He was always calling and messaging. Where is Will? He’s the guy who planned this,” Sam smiled. Just then, the three men’s phones buzzed (嗡嗡地响), and the message they received made their hearts sink. It was a message from Jenny, Will’s wife. Wayne rushed to his car, and the others followed. A short drive later, the three men knocked on the door of Will’s house and tried to wait patiently. Jenny looked almost unrecognizably pale and told them that Will was taking a nap. The medicines made him all weak. It moved the three men to tears to see their fourth band member in such poor health. And that day, they found out the whole story of Will’s illness. Will’s heart condition was serious, and it had been worsening over the past few months. The doctor said only a surgery could help. But it was going to cost at least $15,000. And after all the previous treatments, Will and Jenny didn’t have that kind of money anymore. Jenny said the doctors had given Will 6 months, bursting into helpless tears. The three men comforted her and wiped their own tears. “Money isn’t an issue,” Sam said as an idea came to him. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 The next day the three men brought their instruments to the busy street corner. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________ Will was finally admitted to hospital three months later. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】The next day the three men brought their instruments to the busy street corner. They set up the sound, a stand with the band name “Playing for Will” and a big stack of flyers to hand out. The men stood there for hours, playing song after song from the golden era of music. They were still perfect together, except for Will’s soulful voice that was missing. Although they were very busy, they were very happy to think of collecting money for Will. Will was finally admitted to hospital three months later. With enough money, they paid for Will’s life-saving surgery. The doctors were highly qualified and the surgery was very successful. Will soon recovered smoothly. Will and Jenny were very grateful to their three friends. After that, there was another jamming session at the same dusty old garage. Only this time, there weren’t just three happy old men reminiscing the old days; there were all four. It seemed like yesterday once more. 设置:set up/put up ②.康复:recover/recure 情绪类 ①.快乐:happy/delighted ②. 感谢:show their gratitude/be grateful Writing 1(2020新高考I、II卷)阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。 The Meredith family lived in a small community. As the economy was in decline, some people in the town had lost their jobs. Many of their families were struggling to make ends meet. People were trying to help each other meet the challenges. Mrs. Meredith was a most kind and thoughtful woman. She spent a great deal of time visiting the poor. She knew they had problems, and they needed all kinds of help. When she had time, she would bring food and medicine to them. One morning she told her children about a family she had visited the day before. There was a man sick in bed, his wife, who took care of him and could not go out to work, and their little boy. The little boy -his name was Bernard-had interested her very much. “I wish you could see him,” she said to her own children, John, Harry, and Clara. “He is such a help to his mother. He wants very much to earn some money, but I don't see what he can do.” After their mother left the room, the children sat thinking about Bernard. “I wish we could help him to earn money,” said Clara. “His family is suffering so much.” “So do I,” said Harry. “We really should do something to assist them.” For some moments, John said nothing, but, suddenly, he sprang to his feet and cried, “I have a great idea! I have a solution that we can all help accomplish(完成).” The other children also jumped up all attention. When John had an idea, it was sure to be a good one. “I tell you what we can do,” said John. “You know that big box of corn Uncle John sent us? Well, we can make popcorn(爆米花), and put it into paper bags, and Bernard can take it around to the houses and sell it.” 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右: 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 When Mrs. Meredith heard of John's idea, she thought it was a good one, too. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ With everything ready, Bernard started out on his new business. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】When Mrs. Meredith heard of John’s idea, she thought it was a good one, too. So, they went to the local supermarket together. They bought a bag of corn and some special bags for popcorn. When they got home, they made a lot of popcorn and put it in the special bags. With the popcorn, they went to Bernard’s home. They told Bernard how to sell the popcorn. Bernard and his parents were very grateful. And the Meredith family also felt very happy to help this family. With everything ready, Bernard started out on his new business. He took the popcorn around to the houses and sold all his popcorn. He earned a lot of money. Then, he wanted to be self-dependent. Therefore, he asked Mrs. Meredith to teach him how to make popcorn. After that, not only did he sell popcorn, but he also added cream and salt to the popcorn to make it taste better. Bernard grew up to be a remarkable man. He did not forget the help of Meredith’s family, and he also did what he could to help those in need. When Mrs. Meredith heard of John’s idea, she thought it was a good one, too.(当Meredith太 太听到John的主意时,她也认为这是个好主意)可以针对如何实现制作爆米花这个提议展开构思;根据第 二段首句With everything ready, Bernard started out on his new business.(一切准备就绪后,Bernard开始了他 的新生意)可以针对Bernard如何通过卖爆米花让家庭摆脱困境展开构思。 5. “I'm going to miss you so much, Poppy, "said the tall, thin teenager. He bent down to hug his old friend goodbye. He stood up, hugged his parents, and smiled, trying not to let his emotions(情绪)get the better of him.His parents were not quite able to keep theirs under control. They had driven their son several hours out of town to the university where he would soon be living and studying. It was time to say goodbye for now at least. The family hugged and smiled through misty eyes and then laughed. The boy lifted the last bag onto his shoulder, and flashed a bright smile.” I guess this is it, “he said.” I'll see you back home in a month, okay?"His parents nodded, and they watched as he walked out of sight into the crowds of hundreds of students and parents. The boy's mother turned to the dog, “Okay, Poppy, time to go back home.” The house seemed quiet as a tomb without the boy living there. All that week, Poppy didn't seem interested in her dinner, her favorite toy, or even in her daily walk. Her owners were sad too, but they knew their son would be back to visit. Poppy didn't. They offered the dog some of her favorite peanut butter treats. They even let her sit on the sofa, but the old girl just wasn't her usual cheerful self. Her owners started to get worried. "What should we do to cheer Poppy up?"asked Dad. “We've tried everything.” “I have an idea, but it might be a little crazy, “smiled Mom.” Without anybody left in the house but us, this place could use a bit of fun. Let's get a little dog for Poppy." It didn't take long before they walked through the front door carrying a big box. Poppy welcomed them home as usual, but when she saw the box, she stopped. She put her nose on it. Her tail began wagging(摆动)ever so slowly, then faster as she caught the smell. 注意: 1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右; 2. 至少使用5个短文中标有下划线的关键词语; 3. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好; 4. 续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。 Para 1. Poppy was amazed. She wagged furiously. She barked with joy. She smiled, her tongue lolling out as she investigated the surprise. The little pup was not shy and immediately starting yipping and jumping around the older dog. “That didn’t take long,” remarked Mom, as both dogs went roaring around the house in an impromptu game of chase. Dad laughed. Para 2. A few weeks later, the boy arrived home from university. He had missed Poppy and was looking forward to seeing her. It was filled with surprise and amusements, all because of my mother — loving, sweet, and yet absent-minded and forgetful. One strange family trip we took when I was eleven tells a lot about her. My two sets of grandparents lived in Colorado and North Dakota, and my parents decided to spend a few weeksdriving to those states and seeing all the sights along the way. As the first day of our trip approached, David, my eight-year-old brother, and I unwillingly said good-bye to all of our friends. Who knew if we’d ever see them again? Finally, the moment of our departure arrived, and we loaded suitcases, books, games, camping equipment, and a tent into the car and bravely drove off. We bravely drove off again two hours later after we’d returned home to get the purse and traveler’s checks Mom had forgotten. David and I were always a little nervous when using gas station bathrooms if Mom was driving while Dad slept: “You stand outside the door and play lookout (放哨) while I go, and I’ll stand outside the door and play lookout while you go.” I had terrible pictures in my mind: “Honey, where are the kids?” “What?! Oh, Gosh … I thought they were being awfully quiet.” We were never actually left behind in a strange city, but we weren’t about to take any chances. On the fourth or fifth night, we had trouble finding a hotel with a vacancy. After driving in vain for some time, Mom suddenly got a great idea: Why didn’t we find a house with a likely-looking backyard and ask if we could set up tent there? David and I became nervous. To our great relief, Dad turned down the idea. Mom never could understand our objections (反对). If a strange family showed up on her front doorsteps, Mom would have been delighted. She thinks everyone in the world is as nice as she is. We finally found a vacancy in the next town. 注意:1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;2. 至少使用5个短文中标有下划线的关键词语;3. 续写部分 分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好;4. 续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。 Paragraph 1: The next day we remembered the brand-new tent we had brought with us. ____________________________________________ Paragraph 2: We drove through several states and saw lots of great sights along the way.___________________________________________ 【答案】 The next day we remembered the brand-new tent we had brought with us. Mom insisted that we should make full use of it. David and I looked at Dad, who smiled and nodded in agreement. Then we spent a whole afternoon seeking a nice camping place and finally set up our tent before night fell. It was the first time that I had thought Mom could be wise as I admired our stunning tent. “Oh, I forgot the pillows!” Mom screamed. Despite the ache in my neck, we had an unforgettable night. Paragraph 2: We drove through several states and saw lots of great sights along the way. The limitless green grass, the wandering sheep, the setting sun and the countless stars above the curtain of night kept me spellbound. Not only did we enjoy the picturesque scenery, but we were also happy to have forgetful and absent-minded Mom around, whobrought lots of laughter to our trip. I really love her. Eventually, we arrived at our grandparents’ place, all four of us and not a single one left behind. Writing 4 (2020浙江7月卷)阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。 One fall,my wife Elli and I had a single goal:to photograph polar bears. We were staying at a research camp outside “the polar bear capital of the world”-the town of Churchill in Manitoba,Canada. Taking pictures of polar bears is amazing but also dangerous. Polar bears-like all wild animals-should be photographed from a safe distance. When I'm face to face with a polar bear,I like it to be through a camera with a telephoto lens. But sometimes, that is easier said than done. This was one of those times. As Elli and I cooked dinner,a young male polar bear who was playing in a nearby lake sniffed, and smelled our garlic bread. The hungry bear followed his nose to our camp, which was surrounded by a high wire fence. He pulled and bit the wire. He stood on his back legs and pushed at the wooden fence posts. Terrified,Elli and I tried all the bear defense actions we knew. We yelled at the bear, hit pots hard, and fired blank shotgun shells into the air. Sometimes loud noises like these will scare bears off. Not this polar bear though-he just kept trying to tear down the fence with his massive paws(爪子). I radioed the camp manager for help. He told me a helicopter was on its way,but it would be 30 minutes before it arrived. Making the best of this close encounter(相遇),I took some pictures of the bear. Elli and I feared the fence wouldn't last through 30 more minutes of the bear's punishment. The camp manager suggested I use pepper spray. The spray burns the bears' eyes, but doesn't hurt them. So I approached our uninvited guest slowly and, through the fence, sprayed him in the face. With an angry roar(吼叫),the bear ran to the lake to wash his eyes. 注意:1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右; 2. 至少使用5个短文中标有下划线的关键词语; 3. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好; 4. 续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。 Paragraph1: A few minutes later, the bear headed back to our camp.____________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph2: At that very moment, the helicopter arrived. ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 【解析】 本文主要讲述了人与熊对抗,之后成功脱险的故事。主人公的感情线变化为:兴奋渴望→惊恐→放松。 剧情线以主人公如何与北极熊周旋并成功摆脱它展开。 由第一段的段首提示句可知:几分钟后,熊又回到营地。接下来可通过场景渲染,描写当时令人颤栗 惊恐的画面,例如“Roars and screams pierced the silence with needle-like shrillness.”这不仅合理地描写了熊 的反应,也描绘出让人战栗的场景。 由第二段的段首提示句可知:此时,直升机到了。如果想要进行续写两段的合理衔接,第一段的结尾 可描写成“After thoroughly scrutinizing the area, the bear trotted forward a few steps.”这样可以营造出危急的 场景。“我们”看到直升机的到来,感到绝处逢生的喜悦,可以以人物心理描写作为第二段的开头,重点 描写喜极而泣的状态,例如“My heart leaped with joy as I knew we were likely to be saved.” 最后,结尾部分需要迅速收束,并说明成功逃脱的结局。 关于画线词:Elli作为女主人公,是续写内容中应该出现的画线词,noises, pictures, fence, spray与熊有 关,也在两段续写内容中出现。最终,两人回归安全状态,因此画线词safe也可自然而然地出现在续写内 容中。由此划分画线词,可迅速锁定需使用的画线词范围,辅助构思。 【范文】 A few minutes later, the bear headed back to our camp. Roars and screams pierced the silence with needle-like shrillness. The noises turned Elli and I pale with horror. I feared that the giant would destroy our whole fence. He roared repeatedly, shattering what was left of the silence. Elli seized this opportunity to take some pictures of the bear. The animal’s noises echoed all around us. We betrayed our feelings by huddling together, shivering with fear. After thoroughly scrutinizing the area, he trotted forward a few steps. At that very moment, the helicopter arrived. My heart leaped with joy as I knew we were likely to be saved. Elli used pepper spray again to buy us enough time. But this time the bear became more alert. He regarded us with the merciless necessity of hunger, so we throw all the food we have. He then turned away and started devouring. Aswe were climbing the rope ladder, Elli prayed like thousand times to show thankfulness of being safe and sound.
